You guys better add this shit yourselves because I seriously can't list off all the damn references.

AND PLEASE TRY TO KEEP IT ALPHABETICAL.

Contents

Anime

Air Gear

  • Kyler's personality is vaguely based off that of his PB, Wanijima Agito - mostly his antisocial tendencies, constant swearing, and need to fall asleep wherever he sees fit.

Ayashi no Ceres

D.Gray-man

  • Jack and Tinka are PBed by Allen Walker and Rinali Li which are one of the more popular het pairings in the fandom. Mu Shen's PB is also from the series and often paired with Allen, which is amusing because Tetra plays both Jack and Mu Shen.

Fruits Basket

  • The name of Adrian Breton's dog, Shigure, is a reference to his PB - The character Shigure turns into a dog when hugged.
  • Jason Reid, before his death, had several pet cats, a nod to his PB, Sohma Kyou, who in Fruits Basket is the cat of the zodiac.

Fullmetal Alchemist

  • Bastion learned the power of Alchemy from Mat, and his PB is Edward Elric.
  • Zeke shares Roy Mustang's, his pb, affinity for fire. Another of Rai's characters, Zhu Bai, shares Pride's/Wrath's power of sight into the future, though he uses a pb from Bleach.

Fushigi Yuugi

  • Xu Tien's PB was chosen in part because the anime takes place in China. The resemblance of her powers to the powers of another character in the anime was entirely on accident.

Books

Harry Potter

  • Adrian once dreamt some of the events of the sixth book, causing much uproar.

His Dark Materials

  • Lyra and her power are based on that of one of the main characters. When she was first being planned, an alternate power would have been to know the truth of any situation.
  • Will, Ris' unborn son, was named after and roughly based on the other main character.
  • A variation of the subtle knife has been used as a basis for the New York City's holy weapon.

House of Leaves

  • There are many scattered references to the novel across the game.

Idlewild

  • Phantasia Hall's names are both taken from the novel, and was originally planned to be based on Fantasia.

In the Forests of the Night

  • Ris is a shortened version of Risika.

Neverwhere

  • Christian's power was once summed up to Spork by her boyfriend as, "sounds like Door."

Shakespeare

  • Montague and his older brothers (Tybalt and Mercutio) are named after characters from Romeo and Juliet.

Star Wars Expanded Universe

  • Jason's third cat, Asyr, is named after the character Asyr Sei'lar, a Bothan pilot from the X-Wing series of novels by Michael A. Stackpole.

Twelve

  • Christian Keyes is based off the main character of the novel, White Mike.

Comics

Marvel Universe

  • Jason's second cat, Jubilee, is named after one of the X-Men.
  • Jason is full of Marvel references in general, really; he's frequently professed a love for Deadpool, and he once had a zen-like moment in which he was stunned to find that the entirety of Marvel canon finally made perfect sense to him.
  • Tinka's power is a blatent rip-off of Gambit's. She even fights with playing cards.
  • Oliver's nickname for Skuld is Kitty, after Shadow Cat.

Internet

4chan

  • Jason's fourth cat, Fgsfds, takes her name from a 4chan meme.

Cat Town

  • Jason's first cat, El Guapo, is named after one of the main characters from the website Cat Town.

Deviant University

  • Many AU variations of World Resolution characters and others may be found here.

The Hangman

  • Ris' power was based upon this NaNoWriMo's theme of shadows.

The Hollow

  • Ris, Skye, December, and April are all based on characters from Spork's original fiction journal. How much they resemble their original selves is all up for debate.

Movies

All I Wanna Do

  • "Tinka" is actually the name of a character who falls in love with a boy named Snake who photographs roadkill for fun. The last name "von Stefan" belongs to another character named Verena, which eventually became the name of Tinka's older sister.

Peter Pan

  • Tinka's full name is "Tinka Belle von Stefan". "Tinka Belle" = Tinkerbell from Peter Pan. Yes, her mom is a sadist.

Sixth Sense

  • Stephen made mention to the twist of the movie after seeing it happen in a dream.

Star Wars

  • Numerous references have been made both to the original trilogy and Episode I: The Phantom Menace.

Music

ABBA

  • Phan pulled Oliver up on stage to sing "Dancing Queen" on the Seals' Karaoke Night.

Avenue Q

  • "The Internet is for Porn" has been mentioned more than once.

Franz Ferdinand

  • Tinka's guardian, Michael, earned his name because Dots and Spork were singing the song as Mo was writing her application.

The Phantom Of The Opera

  • Seth is mildly obsessed with the musical, and to some degree has tried to pattern his relationships after it.
  • While spamming a post, Shawn posted the lyrics from the female role in the theme song of this musical.

They Might Be Giants

  • Emerson got bored one Sunday night and spammed the community with lyrics to "Istanbul (Not Constantinople)" to alleviate it, though all it seemed to do was annoy Erich. (as she would most likely put it, MY WORK HERE IS DONE!)

Television

The Brady Bunch

  • Cindy is often teased about her name being the same as the youngest daughter on The Brady Bunch. Her stepmother is named for the Bradys' maid, and her brother for the middle son Peter.

Firefly

  • Kay, Oliver, and Ria's names are all references to characters on the show.

Law and Order

  • Alan only exists because his mun watches way too much of it, and he probably would've been an NYC character if she didn't have two there already.

LOST

  • Stephen once dreamed of polar bears on an island.
  • Conny and Cecilia were on their way to Sydney after Rome's fall and were stranded on an island.

Power Rangers

  • During a discussion between Phan and Tinka about making the Seals matching uniforms, Jack began singing the theme song.

Pythagoras Switch

  • Jason's Rube Goldberg machine was inspired after Iris and Crys watched an episode of this show, which includes many sequences of such machines. They're still looking for an excuse to reference the Algorithm March.

SPACE: Above and Beyond

  • Montague Damphousse's last name is taken from Lt. Vanessa Damphousse who was a bad ass and Mo figured she needed to be recognized as such.

Video Games

Final Fantasy VII

  • Fighting Sephiroth is most commonly mentioned.
  • Shawn has referenced the fandom of this game, as well as the crossdressing scene.

Phoenix Wright

  • Yamashita Takahiro and Nakamura Ryouta are both based on and PBed by characters in the game - specifically, Miles Edgeworth and Phoenix Wright. Their companies (Edgesoft and Phoenix Works) are also references to this.

Other References

Alexandria High School

  • Padua and April Holloway are references to Alexandria High. The Holloways were known for their twin/triplet antics.
  • Lucian and Ris once made a reference to Asian Jesus.
  • Ass. Babies.

Real Life

  • Addison's loft apartment is located above a restaurant in Greenwich Village/Soho called "Wok 'n' Roll". This restaurant actually exists and there actually are loft apartments above it.
  • The de Carvalho-Heineken family is based upon the real thing.

Mythology

  • Xu Tien's power is a reference to Chinese mythology, and the four gods that represent the cardinal directions.

Psychology

  • Shawn's power is a reference to Freud's theory of the Id, the Ego, and the Super Ego.

Typos

  • Padua and April Holloway's parents, Sligh and Machera, are typos from a terrible and hilarious application Spork and Mo got while moderating another RP.
