[edit] History
Jason was a fairly normal kid, from a fairly normal family, in a fairly normal part of Sydney, with an upbringing that could best be described as - you guessed it - fairly normal. He did decently in all of his schooling, though his best subjects were math and science. He teased his younger sister Jess and was teased by his older sister Jen. He got into just enough trouble, but never too much.
He did always have a knack for fixing things, making things work, and spotting problems with things around the house before anyone else noticed - the early signs of his power manifesting. Between that and his talent for math and science, engineering was an obvious fit, so he headed for college, determined to get his degree and live it up while doing so.
Upon arriving at the community, he quickly settled right into his role as a Seal and ended up with half his team crushing on him. He mostly acted as strategist and general motivator, but did defuse the bombs intended to destroy Harbor Bridge on New Year's Eve, and later got a concussion while trying (and failing) to save the Queen Victoria Building.
When Caleb Alchin kidnapped and impersonated his twin brother Max, Jason figured out the deception before anyone else. So Caleb stabbed him in the lung.
I'll write a better history later, really.
[edit] Personality
Jason is a geek.
However, he sees nothing shameful in this, cheerfully admits to being a geek, then goes right back to playing too many video games and slipping Zero Wing quotes into everyday conversation. He owns multiple computers, imports video games, spends way too much time reading 4chan, and could find his way around the internet blindfolded and with one hand tied behind his back.
Aside from the geekiness, he's laid-back, cheerful, and has the attitude that life is a party, and he's damned well not going to be the boring guy who stands in the corner and ends up leaving early. He makes friends easily (provided they're willing to put up with a bit of sarcasm, odd geek humor, and random bouts of capslocking), and he won't back out on the friends he's got.
He's also a highly enthusiastic drinker with a liver of steel, and has a tendency to adopt stray cats on a whim.
[edit] Powers
In simplest possible terms, the ability to see how things work by looking at them. This covers a variety of potential situations, however. Jason can look at anything from one of the six simple machines on up to a space shuttle or a nuclear reactor and know how it works, how to use it, and if something isn't working properly, how to fix it. He can see structural weaknesses, vulnerabilities, and suchlike. He can detect problems in the physical functioning of other people, although mental problems are beyond his ability, and if looking at another person involved in the end of the world, he can determine their powers and any physical weaknesses that might be exploited - though once again, he can't sense mental weaknesses.
(It made sense to his player, at least?)

[edit] 20 Facts
01: Jason thinks that taking physics probably saved his sanity; when his powers first started to manifest he found it very disconcerting to see things happen and know how gravity and the laws of motion were impacting them, yet be without any way of describing it. Learning the terminology and equations finally gave him a way of talking about the things he saw everywhere he looked (even if he didn't talk about them to anyone else), and it was like having a switch suddenly flipped on in his mind - things just made more sense.
02: He briefly considered majoring in theoretical physics, but mechanical engineering sounded easier.
03: He may joke and pretend that he hates engineering, hates all the math, hates all the science, but really, he loves every minute of it.
He realizes this probably makes him look like a loser to a lot of people, but he doesn't really give a fuck.
04: He lost his virginity in his first year at college. There was a big party, there was a lot of booze, and he somehow ended up sleeping with a very pretty, very popular girl from the English department.
Although they both agreed to keep it quiet, Jason was not too hungover to notice that she didn't seem disgusted or disturbed to wake up next to him - merely surprised.
He counts this as a blow against the stereotype, and a victory for geeks everywhere.
05: He's been fond of bugs ever since he figured out that they made his sisters jump. He didn't see any reason to be creeped out by an exoskeleton and a few extra legs; he could see exactly how they'd come in handy, after all.
06: When he was eight years old, he was at the park with his mother and they found a stray kitten curled up under a bench, trembling and looking up at them with wide eyes. Jason wanted to take it home. His mother said no. He told the kitten to wait right there, and he promised he'd come back as soon as he was old enough not to have to listen to his mother anymore.
The kitten was of course long gone when he was sitting in the park ten years later, but he found another stray under that same bench, and even if he had known then what a terror he was taking home with him, he'd probably still have done it. It just felt right.
07: Give him an opening, and he will rant in great detail (and with colorful language) on the sorry state of the video game industry in Australia.
08: He could probably be a decent cook, if he tried. It's not that he has no talent in the kitchen so much as he never bothered to learn how to make anything.
09: Jason knows he's nothing on the battlefield, compared to most of the others in Sydney. He can't help but feel a little bit guilty, because he's worried he's going to be more trouble than help when things heat up.
That's not why he tries to be there for support whenever one of the other Seals needs it, though. He does that because he honestly cares about every one of them as a friend.
10: He can recite the entire intro sequence to Zero Wing. Backwards.
11: One Christmas, when he was sixteen, he snuck into where the tree ornaments were stored before his mother got them out for the year, and quietly replaced the usual angel with a homemade Cthulhu tree topper of his own creation.
He never was terribly fond of angels, and that amuses him. (His mother was significantly less amused about Cthulhu.)
12: Jason is agnostic, though he prefers to describe it as "apathetic." He admits there might be something bigger out there, but it never really interested him much, and he is of the opinion that organized religion has a way of making smart people act incredibly stupid. (It has been a lifelong dream of his to found a nondenominational "Church of Smart.")
13: The first person he ever got seriously drunk with was actually his older sister. A high tolerance for alcohol seems to run in the Reid family genes.
14: He quite earnestly believes that Linux is the only way to go.
He does not actually believe that Bill Gates is the Antichrist, but he jokes about it a lot.
15: Deep down, he knows his chances of living through this entire war are slim to none, but strangely enough, he's okay with that. Worrying about it would just waste time that could be better spent living for as long as he's able, anyway.
16: He doesn't speak any foreign languages, since he forgot everything he ever learned from taking French in high school except for "bonjour" and "croissant." (He wishes programming languages counted, because if they did, you better believe he'd be multilingual.)
17: His favorite member of the X-Men has always been Psylocke. He named his cat Jubilee because he thought it would be creepy to name a cat after a character he used to have a crush on.
18: Jason thinks tequila is the best thing since sliced bread - scratch that, it is greater than sliced bread.
19: He may have chosen Molly, but he still likes Sheri quite a bit and thinks she's a great friend and a fun person to get drunk with, and he's just a bit sorry that they never got to see if they could've been more.
20: He still thinks a reenactment of Star Wars with all roles played by squirrels would be really cool.
