Adrian was born in London, and quickly discovered his talents as a dreamseer, allying himself in his mind with the protectors of humanity. He never really told his parents, or anyone else for that matter. When he grew older, he went to a good college. He became a linguistics professor, and quite a good one at that, being called around the world for lectures. This lead him to Germany, where he met one of the Angels - Ilse Freidrich. he knew of her destiny, of course, and became involved with her mostly to gain insight on the Dragons of Earth - but he quickly found himself in love. He broke it off soon after, first telling her about the destiny that lay in store, and all but fled. He continued his travels as a lecturer, finding himself in Cairo - with Ilse.
Early interactions between the two didn't go well. Adrian tended to alternate between half-shouting at Ilse and being in love with her, and he made several failed attempts to get Ilse to abandon her destiny. These attempts were aborted after Ilse participated in the poisoning of the Cairo water supply and affected Adrian.
The poisoning left Adrian changed - quieter, but at the same time more desperate. What's more, during his time in the hospital he began to have new prophetic dreams, in which he saw himself taking his place in the final battle as one of the Angels, something he had never expected.
Dream met reality when Elijah Thompson arrived in Cairo and began to threaten Ilse. Adrian's dreams became clearer and he accepted his fate, and so when Elijah threatened Ilse's life, Adrian was the one to kill him - and, as he had just killed a Seal to protect an Angel, his destiny was sealed.
He managed to adjust to his new role and, if anything, was happier than usual, since he could finally be with Ilse. He participated in bringing down several barriers, including the University he had worked at, and with his job gone spent more and more time just talking to the other Angels.
All this changed with the arrival of Adil Mahmoud - a former student of Cairo University who had been driven insane by the loss of nearly everything he cared for. Adil's power was to channel the spirits of the dead, and so Elijah and many others were suddenly quite directly after Ilse and Adrian. Adrian became an effective hermit and Ilse was nearly driven insane by things Adil did, but they managed to recover, although neither was unscarred.
The breakdown really started with Mariam Sayid Bishr al-Thani's participation in the battle. Adrian saw reflections of himself and Ilse in the girl and tried to help her escape destiny, but in the end he was unable to and in fact was responsible for the girl's death. Although he managed to stay sane, he became depressed and even more reclusive than usual, hiding in his room.
And then Adil found Ilse and beheaded the girl, taunting Adrian with his inability to protect anyone. The stress of accidentially killing someone compounded with the loss of the one he had given up everything for may have been too much for Adrian, and he seems to be on the verge of suicide.

Adrian used to be dignified, elegant, charming, and more than a bit snarky - in short, the model of a British professor. He was always calm and composed no matter what, and could handle any situation with finesse and charm.
Not so much, any more.
Now he's a complete mess - barely able to type half the time, speaking in fragmented sentences, talking to Ilse and Mariam when he thinks noone will hear him. He spends most of his time just sitting in his room, cradling Ilse's head to his chest. About the only thing that remains remotely the same is his love for tea, which he drinks almost obsessively now - trying to cling to that one shred of normality.

Adrian looks a bit younger than his age. He's around 5'11" in height, and fairly skinny, although not even close to gaunt. His hair is short and black, falling slightly into dark brown eyes. He generally wears dark suits that fit his frame well.
