Born and raised in a small city outside of London, Emerson was the only daughter of her family. Her parents originally were a poor working-class family but managed to bump up to semi-affluence in the business world; he worked at a prominent firm, and she was a part-time lawyer. She and her older brothers weren't spoiled children, per se, but they had enough to get by -- even with all the weird chaos within the family.
On July 13, 1987, three weeks after Benjamin was born, Linda was killed in an accident, leaving Kenneth to raise the family on his own. Naturally, in growing up in a house full of males Emerson's views on how to be a lady were slightly skewed. She wasn't a girly girl, but she wasn't quite a tomboy, either; where other girls would play at being princesses Emerson would dress up in that gown and then run outside to hurl mudballs at the neighborhood boys. ("I wanted to be like the princess in Super Mario Bros. 2!" she'd proclaim loudly after making quite a few of them cry.)
She got into the partying aspect of socialization rather early in her life, going to raucous get-togethers as early as the age of 10. At 12, however, things got... strange. She'd snuck out with some friends to a massive party held by one of her classmates, where a DJ just so happened to be playing. Enthralled by what he was accomplishing, she stepped up to the booth while he took a bathroom break to play with the turntables for herself -- but as she spun, the sound waves from the speakers appeared to have an adverse effect on the partygoers, sending them into shock. Confused, Emerson just left the booth, dismissing the incident for about six years afterward.
Now, in 1999, as an 18-year-old preparing to apply to attend university, she's become a curious onlooker as the events of the end of the world play out.

Emerson is, essentially, a million things mixed into one. She has the capacity to be bouncy, spaced-out and spazzy, occasionally to the point where it can piss off... most mortal beings, but she knows when to put a cap on it if it goes too far. She's absolutely wild about toys, games, movies & television - but above all, music. She grew up running around the streets and sneaking into her friends' parties, and she swears that one day she'll become a famous speedcore DJ... even if she might not be that great at it.
Oftentimes, there's a rare moment of silently simmering angst, but she always takes her lumps and does her best to move on -- though she has been known to keep those thoughts in her mind long after the pain is gone, which can serve to be a problem. Case in point: she always becomes quiet and reserved on the eve of her mother's deathday.

Sound wave manipulation, occasionally through instruments such as turntables, mixers -- and her discman, oddly enough; if she concentrates hard enough the force from her oversized headphones can blow a person back a few feet as a defense mechanism. At the current moment, however, Emerson still has no clue that she possesses such abilities -- she just assumes that she's part of the community by chance, despite her knowledge of the events surrounding the end of the world.
