[edit] History
Mu Shen comes from a long line of Daoist priests back in Shanghai, and for a long time, he too was set on becoming one. His father taught him and his brother the ways of the five-pointed star, the yin-yang symbol, exorcism, and other things. Mu Shen becames killed with the earth point of the star, and became an accomplished geomancer within his family.
But when his fiancé, Liu Rong, suffered a terrible stroke the day before he became a priest, Mu Shen lost the will to become one. Though his brother and mother were understanding and supportive in the troubled days that followed, his father was more than annoyed at his son's hasty decision. To prevent further conflict within the family, Mu Shen left Shanghai with the clothes on his back and the family sword Xing Ji.
Mu Shen spent the next year drifting across the Chinese coast, never spending too long in any particular place, trying to find peace with himself and the horrible dreams he had at night. After receiving the mysterious emails, Mu Shen is currently en route to Beijing in search of this elusive "destiny".
His driftings eventually brought him to Beijing, where he discovered his destiny as a Seal. There, he met Wei Syao Li, the Kamui, and Tan Shi Rong, whom Mu Shen would grow increasingly close with over the next few months.
He was particularly devastated when he learned that Syao Li was not the Kamui. Home destroyed, he moved in with Shi Rong, and waits for their new leader to arrive.
[edit] Personality
Despite his cold and indifferent disposition, Mu Shen is a loyal person. Though he is not the most optimistic person in the world, he has a firm grip on reality and can serve as a voice of reason when needed. He has a tendency to make wry and witty remarks occassionally, and is quite contemplative.
He also tends to bottle up his feelings, especially those of love. He is particularly haunted by the death of Liu Rong, and continually struggles to get over her memory.
[edit] Powers
As a Daoist priest, Mu Shen has a wide range of capabilities, which range from, but are not limited to: exorcism, yin-yang magic, and limited control over the five traditional Eastern elements ( fire, water, metal, earth, and wood ).

[edit] 20 Facts
01. He dreams about her, sometimes.
By "her", he means Liu Rong, not Syao Li, not Shi Rong, not Xu Tien. Sometimes the dreams are different, and sometimes they are the same, but what is definitely a common element between all of his dreams is, towards the very end, Liu Rong turns to him, smiles ( Mu Shen is always entranced by the way her bright brown eyes sparkle when she smiles ), and says, "I love you".
Before Mu Shen can respond, he's already awake.
02. Regardless of whether he dreams or not, Mu Shen always wakes up early. He likes getting up before seven, to revel in the crisp morning air. Liu Rong preferred sunsets, but Mu Shen always loved mornings, just before you can see the sun peak in the horizon.
It's something to look forward to every day.
03. Mu Shen's mornings are fairly simple. He gets out of bed, goes outside, and once the sun is in the horizon he draws Xing Ji and takes several swings with it. It's hard to practice without a real opposing swordsman, but Mu Shen does make do.
He makes thrusts, swipes, two-handed cleaves, parries, and slashes until his arms are sore and he can fight imaginary foes no more.
He wonders what it'll be like when he finally faces a real opponent.
04. Mu Shen truly treasures only two of his possessions.
The first is, obviously, Xing Ji. The family sword, and meant to pass down onto Mu Shen's brother ( who wasn't interested in the weapon to begin with ). He took the weapon at the urging of his mother, who thought it best he took something to remember their clan by, and his brother, who genuinely wanted Mu Shen to take the weapon.
And he does agree. It's like carrying a little bit of home on his back.
05. It's very unlikely he'd tell that to the other Seals, though.
After all, Mu Shen doesn't want to hear any "sword polishing" jokes from Ang Shun or Shi Rong.
06. The second possession Mu Shen treasures is his hair.
Growing up in Shanghai, he had very short hair. As a dare, Liu Rong challenged him to grow his hair out to his shoulders, in exchange for Mu Shen receiving a sliver of her personal fortune. He agreed. As time wore on, Liu Rong fell in love with Mu Shen's hair, and occassionally asked to play with it. Mu Shen's answer was always "no".
Now he wonders if, maybe, he should've said "yes".
07. When you live under Syao Li's roof, things can be pretty hectic.
Naturally, Mu Shen tends to keep to himself, save for the occassional company of Syao Li and Shi Rong. He hides from Syao Li when she's "baking", ignores Runihura and his constant flirting, steers clear of Shi Rong when she's pissed off, and sighs whenever Mao Shi throws a fit.
He's happy to call it home.
08. He fears for the day when he'll finally run out of money.
He left home with his own money, not any from the clan's treasury. As Mu Shen travelled across the Chinese coast, he managed to earn some sort of cash by doing miscellaneous work - exorcisms, blessings, etc.; being trained as a priest came in handy after all.
But now, in Beijing, there's barely any work for Mu Shen to find. He was educated by intelligent tutors, but his true passions always lied in swordplay, his spells, or in Liu Rong, so that's where his full attention went.
It could be a bit of a problem.
09. Though, perhaps this is a problem because Mu Shen doesn't want to feel like he's mooching off of Syao Li. He understands the state of her finanicial condition since no one comes to her school anymore, and wouldn't inconvenience her in any way, despite his near-"hobo" status.
Or, for that matter, he doesn't want to mooch off of anyone.
10. He's had plenty of freetime since Syao Li declared there was nothing left for her to teach him.
Sometimes he'll visit Shi Rong and Ang Shun at Beihai. Sometimes he'll go into the city and do some sight-seeing. Sometimes, even, he'll go on patrol and keep a close eye on the barriers Yu Hua revealed to him.
The patrols are uneventful, but at least they pass the time. It goes by so slowly nowadays.
11. One night, Mu Shen had an idea.
He took out a sheet of paper and a pen and thought it might've been a good idea to write a letter. After he'd written the introduction, however, he could not figure what else to say, so he crumpled the piece of paper up and threw it away.
Who knew writing home could be so hard?
12. Ironically, he wishes that sometimes, just sometimes, he could get a letter or phonecall from home.
Of course, it'd be hard to do when they don't know where he is. Mu Shen feels somewhat perturbed that he can't summon the nerve to write home, but in a matter of moments he's forgotten and moved on to something else.
13. Mu Shen feels a little weird whenever Shi Rong goes into "mom mode" around him. He's not that troubled, he'll mutter on his breath when she's not looking.
Yet, from the botton of his heart, he really appreciates everything Shi Rong's done for him.
14. He really does pity anyone who has to stomach Syao Li's cooking day in and day out.
He also means that from the bottom of his heart.
15. It's a little unnerving when the city you're supposed to protect has not seen any action since the resident psycho left.
Still, Mu Shen is constantly practicing, constantly training, constantly honing his skills. He's certain that there will be a day when the truce between the Seals and the Angels will break, and the city will erupt into conflict.
When that day comes, he'll be ready.
16. He often wonders just how he's managed to get this far.
For a long time he was tortured and tormented by the very name of Liu Rong. Liu Rong and her smile haunted him in his sleep, in his dreams - his wildest fantasies and darkest nightmares. There was one moment, a couple of months ago, long before he arrived at Beijing where he contemplated ending his life.
Mu Shen figures Liu Rong would scold him madly if he ever did kill himself.
17. He lost his virginity at sixteen.
They were young, bored, curious, and maybe even a little stupid. Whatever the case was, Mu Shen and Liu Rong slept together and it was the most awkward, embarassing, and clumsiest night of his life. ( they got better as time went on, thankfully )
He wouldn't ever take that night back.
18. Whenever Ang Shun asks him how's Shi Rong is doing, Mu Shen's answer is always a shrug. Ang Shun will either snicker or raise an eyebrow before asking more questions. Mu Shen doesn't quite understand why Ang Shun and Shi Rong don't like each other, but for that matter, he doesn't care.
So long as it doesn't disrupt the fabric between the rest of the Seals, at least.
19. Even if Mu Shen thinks Syao Li is a little weird, she reminds him of Liu Rong, in a slightly demented way. Perhaps that's why he holds her so close to his heart, Syao Li being the Kamui aside.
20. Though Mu Shen may miss Liu Rong every day, he's afraid to die. No matter how ready he says he is to die, to die for Syao Li, to die for Beijing, to die with glory and honor and whatever he's talking about today, Mu Shen is afraid of death.
It scares him to think he'll see Liu Rong again.
