Story

Prior to the stories official beginning, a short preview was shown in Blundit the Bandit; Bloo the Boo which showed Apricot finding the red Chaos Emerald, but then was kidnapped soon after.

Chapter 1: A Super Paper Mario Rip-Off

Part 5-1: The Mysterious Dr. Tyrato

Top, Oshy and Topper were hanging out at Top's House, bored, when an orange yoshi burst in, revealing himself to be a yoshi at Gisho Castle. The yoshi explained the castle was attacked and Apricot was kidnapped, and Oshy assumed it was Rexor, so they quickly rushed off, dropping the orange yoshi at The Yoshi Bodyguards HQ. This caused some of the YBs to go along to help. They soon arrived near Rexor's Castle, and got out to be sneaky.

At Rexor's Castle, Rexor was giving a pep talk to his minions, Rexes, rexerers, patrexols, hamrexes, and jawbuses. He was saying his new plan was the greatest ever, but suddenly the heroes burst in to stop him! Dr. Tyrato (first mentioned four stories previous) was revealed, and they then revealed their secret weapon--a massive robot that looked like a rex gundam. Unfortunately, as soon as it was brought out, it fell apart. Rexor then decided to battle them himself.

Part 5-2: Rex Rex & Dr. Rex

This part was a battle against Rexor, Dr. Tyrato, and Rexor's minions.

Part 5-3: Emerald Season

Just then, Sub came into the castle, ready to fight, but saw they had already won. Rexor muttered something about his plan not even started, and they learned Rexor wasn't the one to kidnap Apricot. Just then, an egg with feet appeared, and Egghold introduced itself and told the heroes Oh Gee had some useful information, so they followed it to Oh Gee's lab. There, they learned that just before the castle was attacked, Apricot had called him about an emerald she found, and Oh Gee revealed he had a green Chaos Emerald.

Oh Gee reckoned that they kidnappers were after the emeralds, and if they went looking for the emeralds, they'd find the kidnappers. They also learned that, according to some of the yoshis that were at Gisho Castle, the kidnappers were "strange, egg-shaped creatures". Egghold did a search for the emeralds energy signature, and found there was one at Toadwood Forest.

Chapter 2: The Grate Boggling Vim Factory

Part 5-4: Koopeleon Kopu

When they arrived in Toadwood Forest, they found a group of timid Koopeleon, including one named Kopu that were hiding. Apparently most of them were kidnapped by the same egg-shaped creatures that kidnapped Apricot and were looking for the Chaos Emeralds, so they agreed to help them. After a couple pointless scenes in the Vim Factory, the group made it to the outside of the factory, only to find Team Flash was there! They prepared to engage battle, knowing whoever the villains were must have hired them.

Part 5-5: Not an Egg!

After Team Flash quickly recited their motto, the battle officially began. Team Flash were defeated, and sent blasting off again, causing them to drop a key. The heroes took it and went into the Vim Factory, and found X-Nauts inside!

Part 5-6: KABOOM!

In the cage housing the kidnapped Koopeleons, Kon, Kopu's younger brother, was getting ready to win the key to the cage from an X-Naut guard in a poker game when the X-Naut was knocked out by Eggo. They were able to free the Koopeleon Colonel, and he forced the other Koopeleons to help out. They eventually opened up the other cage by destroying the giant tree in the factory, and with all the Koopeleon, made their way to the end of the factory.

At the end of the factory, they found the Chaos Emerald; unfortunately, it was a fake planted by Lord Crump to trap them in a cage. He then brought out a massive X-Bomb which he activated, and hurried out with the other X-Nauts. Fortunately, the fake emerald had the same properties as the real one, and Sneezier was able to teleport them out with Chaos Control and stop Crump. Unfortunately, Crump never put an "off" switch on the bomb, so they all made a mad dash and got out just before the factory exploded! Crump tried to escape, but the heroes caught him and they prepared to battle.

Part 5-7: Magnus Battle of Chaos!

The heroes battled against Lord Crump and the Magnus von Grapple 3.0, which Crump was able to power up with the Chaos Emerald he had. In a stroke of luck, Topper found that using Magnus' own weapons against it was able to damage it. They were then able to destroy it by clogging up a giant cannon it had and blowing it to pieces. Crump escaped, but they got the emerald.

Meanwhile, in Oh Gee's lab, Oh Gee was testing some puddling glue on Chibi. Just then, the heroes came in with the emerald, and told Oh Gee what happened. The two emeralds they had then began to glow and a portal appeared; the heroes jumped in, followed by Chibi, who wanted to get to beat people up.

Chapter 3: Super Smashing Tournament!

Part 5-8: Ready… GO!

The heroes crashed in an office building-like place, and saw there was a receptionist desk with Sandbag at it! They got ready to fight, when Sandbag explained it wasn't evil anymore, and was now the receptionist for Smash Stadium, and that night was the last night for sign-ups, so they quickly signed up, as the prize was a Chaos Emerald. The first fight of the tournament was against Dark Meta Knight and Mr. Patch; Dark Meta Knight won easily. The next fight was against The Squeak Squad and The Unused Characters.

Part 5-9: Round 1 Ends

The battle from the last part continued, and it ended in The Unused Characters winning. The heroes then went up to fight, finding they were going against The Angrybots, which was composed of Flare and Chopper (who they had met earlier in the 2006 YB Holiday Special). Although Oshy and Pyro were defeated in the fight, they were able to defeat Chopper and Flare and move on. In the final fight of round 1, the Koopa Bros., now with Jr. Troopa, went up against the Regal Rexerers. In the end, the Regal Rexerers blasted the Koopa Bros. away, winning.

Part 5-10: Rex’s Unexpected Appearance

In Round 2, Dark Meta Knight went against The Unused Characters, defeating them easily, then the heroes went against the Regal Rexerers, eventually winning. However, out of nowhere, Rexor appeared and fought the heroes. In the end, he was also defeated, and the heroes moved on to the final round.

Part 5-11: The Not-So-Final Destination

In the final match, the heroes went up against Dark Meta Knight at Distant Planet. However, early on, the giant bulborb appeared, ate Dark Meta Knight, and the heroes won.

That couldn't be all, though, could it? No! For when the heroes were on the stage for their victory ceremony, they were suddenly teleported away and had to fight Master Hand at Final Destination! After a hard fight, they were eventually able to defeat it, and were sent back to Smash Stadium. They at first suspected foul play, but then found out from Master Hand that it actually went around, hosting tournaments, then battled the winner, and wasn't evil at all. It tossed the Chaos Emerald to them, and the chapter ended.

Meanwhile, at Oh Gee's Lab, Oh Gee and Testube were about to test out a new food-cutting laser that could only cut through food. The heroes returned, and Oh Gee went to greet them; Testube was about to test out the laser on an onion when suddenly the Goomba Army burst in and piled on top of him. Stuffwell located the next emerald... to be high in the sky.

Chapter 4: Fly to the Mooooon!

Part 5-12: No you can’t come

Top, Oshy and Topper find Whacko in Top's Star Ship, pretending to fly it; he wanted to come along, but wasn't able to due to his being stuck in the ground, so the characters left without him. They found the emerald readings were coming from the moon, which they landed on, after which they made their way to the former X-Naut base where they spoke with TEC, who stated he hadn't detected any power surplus on the moon, but did detect some dark matter energy flying around the moon. When the heroes went back up, they saw a Cosmic Comet in the air and cosmic versions of everyone came down; they then prepared to battle.

Part 5-13: Clash of Cosmic Proportions!

Each character fought against their own cosmic forms; Cosmic Pyro actually tackled Pyro down into a crater, and Cosmic Sub was defeated by a Nosferatu attack from Sub. Once they were all defeated, the Chaos Emerald appeared and they took it, ending the chapter.

Part 5-14: The Storybook Part (or) “What Just Happened?”

Although the chapter wasn't quite finished, next was an experimental storybook format part. Pyro ran by and suddenly grabbed Stuffwell from Top, then ran into the Pyro Cruiser. Pyro then took the four emeralds they had, popped out of the Pyro Cruiser's window and revealed himself to be Cosmic Pyro; with the power of the seven emeralds, Cosmic Pyro was able to continue existing even though the Cosmic Comet was gone.

Cosmic Pyro was going to try and get the other 3 emeralds with a giant bone appeared and blastd into the Pyro Cruiser, causing Cosmic Pyro to fall out and lose the emeralds, disappearing. The bone had come from Team Flash, who were there to take the emeralds. A battle began, and although Team Flash was defeated quickly, they jumped into a crater, stating they had a secondary plan.

Part 5-15: Attack of the Moon Dragon

Just then, the surrounding area began to shake and a massive Fracktail-like robot came out of the crater named Flashtail. On top of it, however... was Pyro! The heroes told Pyro to attack the antennae, but Flashtail did a barrel roll and Pyro fell off to the moon's surface. Flashtail came down to attack them, but the Goomba Army jumped into its mouth and somehow disabled barrel rolling.

That would be pointless, however, as Top and the others simply flew up there and attacked the antennae, eventually destroying it; Flashtail blew up, but Team Flash flew away in Lakeep's cloud. With the four emeralds returned, the heroes made their way back to Oh Gee's lab, who was making a Whacka Transporter for Whacko (composed of a wagon full of dirt). Testube was outside getting pelted with rocks from monty moles. Anyway, the heroes found the next emerald was on Isle Delfino somewhere.

Chapter 5: A Nibbling Problem

Part 5-16: Surfin’ Bloopers, Eh?

The heroes landed in Ricco Harbor, and found that the harbor had become infestd with Nibbles. They had no time to deal with such things... until they realized the emerald was under the pier, so they asked help from the Big Daddy of Blooper Surfing; Sneezier rode on the red blooper, swiftly avoiding the Nibbles (and Pyro shot a few with fireballs) until they got to under the pier.

Part 5-17: The Innovation Channel’s Nibbles Week!

Under the pier, the heroes found a giant nibbles, that they assumed to be the one causing nibbles to appear. They found the only way they could damage it was attacking the inside of its mouth, and after several attacks the robot exploded, revealing the exoskeleton of a robot piloted by Lord Crump! Crump was defeated, but then the emerald energy signature moved to outside the pier, so they had to go back out and saw a giant Wiggler windsurfin off in the distance.

Part 5-18: The Battle That Wasn’t a Battle

Although they began to attack the wiggler, none of their attacks worked against it. Just then, Lord Crump returned, now in an X-Naut ship, but the wiggler destroyed it, and they retreated. Top got an idea, and the heroes began to fire fruit at the wiggler; nothing worked, though, until a durain was kicked at it, knocking it into the water. A well-aimed pepper put an end to the wiggler, but it wasn't over yet--a bunch of references to other games' main items then occured (a Star, a Jiggy, a Pikmin-esque key, a Master Ball, the Triforce, an SSBB trophy, and Mr. Resetti), but they finally got the emerald.

When they returned to Oh Gee's lab, Oh Gee and Testube were testing out Driflite, an experimental gas. It didn't seem to be working at first, when Testube was trying to fill a balloon up, but when he put it in his mouth he swelled up like a balloon. The heroes found the next emerald to be at Poshley Heights, but because of a law that prevented noisy ships from going there, they had to go on the Excess Express.

Chapter 6: 3 Days of Excess: The Sequel

Part 5-19: Return of the Sticky Problem

Once they had gotten on the train (with The Goomba Army in the cargo hold), Top went through and checked to see who all the passengers were. Super announced he had found a sticky, yummy threat, so they told the conductor the note, then went to the Galley, where Pyro was, crying. Chef Shimi, the waitress, a lakitu cameraman, a pianta businessguy, and Chicken Head were also there; apparently a pie that Chef Shimi had made was stolen.

Chicken Head began to "deduce" the answer, claiming Jet Gundam did it, but then Pyro remembered he was the one that ate it. Chicken Head then brought the heroes to his cabin, and told them the conductor told him of the threat, and that with his help, they should be able to solve it.

Part 5-20: Bridge Elevation

When they all woke up the next day, Top yelled his shellfood he was storing and his golden pizza slice were stolen... then said he was kidding. When they went to Chicken Head to see if anything new had arisen, he said nothing had shown up. Then Super came in and revealed he had realized the note was one he bought at a hero sale a while ago and had just now remembered about it. Thus, everything that had occured in the chapter was completely pointless.

When they arrived at Riverside Station, they found the bridge had gone up again, so they went into the station to find the switch. Chibi bashed the doors down, then Super burnt the elevator rope, causing them all to crash to the basement of the station. They got to the switch and activated it, lowering the bridge, but just then a cutscene showed there was a bomb underneat the bridge! Sub teleported them back up, and they began trying to stop the bomb; Sneezier cut it off with his laser screwdriver and it fell to the canyon below.

Part 5-21: Team Fizzled Out

On the third and final day, things seemed quiet at first... but then bombs began to exploded outside the train! The heroes went topside and found Team Flash was tossing bombs down onto the train! Once the heroes were up top, they began tossing more bombs, trying to blast them off the train. During the fight, their balloon was ripped by Sub, but was revealed to be a rocket, explaining how they kept up with the train. The rocket was eventually destroyed, and their basket fell to the train. Sub then sent them shooting off again, defeating them.

At Poshley Heights, they saw Chicken Head once more going into a building that the emerald energy was coming from, and Chicken Head said it was one of the places he lived. Inside was a Chaos Emerald they obtained. With all but one, they made their way back to Oh Gee's lab and found the final emerald was located at Joke's End.

Chapter 7: End of the Jokes

Part 5-22: You’re Joking, Right?

When the heroes arrived at Joke's End, they found Jojora outside, crying. She told them the X-Nauts (or, in her words, "these X-Jerks") came in, beat up her friends, and took over the place. Learning the X-Nauts were inside, the heroes hurried in and made it to the top floor, where they encountered a Targitzan-like head that was blue and icy appeared, introducing itself as Frozenman. It demanded to hear the best joke ever or they wouldn't go through; instead, they told horrible jokes and it let them through because they were so bad.

Part 5-23: Frappebot

The heroes entered a new area of Joke's End the X-Nauts added, and Lord Crump appeared in the Magnus von Frappe, an icy version of Magnus. Luckily for them, its weakness was fire, which they had quite a lot of, so eventually they were able to destroy it. Once it was destroyed, they found the 7th and final emerald; just then, however, instead of the chapter ending, the add-on to Joke's End lifted into the air, revealing to be a battleship.

Part 5-24: The Final Battle

The heroes ran through a hallway and entered an expansive room where they finally saw Grodus. Before they could use the emeralds against him, a large magnet came down and attracted the emeralds away, and they were forced to fight without them. Although the battle was long and hard, Grodus seemed to be losing... until he revealed Apricot was in a shield, and threatened to kill her! He began to hit the heroes with lightning, but before he could defeat them completely... Rexor fell from above out of nowhere, landing on Grodus and crushing him! Dr. Tyrato then came down as well, and they realized the princess, Chaos Emeralds, and good guys were all there, and Rexor prepared to pummel them!

Part 5-25: A Rexor Appearance

Rexor and Dr. Tyrato began fighting the already-somewhat-weakened heroes, but even though the battle was long and hard, Rexor and Tyrato eventually went down. After they were defeated, however, the heroes saw that Grodus had gotten ahold of the emeralds! Before he could activate them, though, an explosion slammed the ship, causing him to drop them.

Part 5-26: All-Out Battleship Finale!

Some X-Nauts ran in, telling Grodus a large battleship had appeared and was attacking them, and it was revealed to be Dr. Eggman, trying to get "his" emeralds. Another explosion rocked the X-Naut battleship, blowing a hole open into space. The X-Nauts got out of the room, but the Chaos Emeralds flew into space; a portal appeared, and the heroes jumped in, escaping just in time.

While the X-Nauts and Dr. Eggman fought it out, neither side seeming to win, suddenly another blast hit both ships. The heroes had found themselves in yet another ship, and they found it was piloted by Whirl! Whirl explained he had been tracking Eggman for a while, and when he saw Eggman was heading for Star World, he followed. Whirl then entered the battle, using his smaller ship to avoid the larger ships' attacks.

After a time, it seemed like Whirl could win, but then disaster struck when Whirl's ship was hit by missiles, disabling it. A fourth ship appeared, and inside this one was Slike! The three remaining ships began to battle, but the heroes got an idea--use a portal beam to send the Chaos Emeralds away so no one could get them. Thus, Whirl got some power from Chibi poofing into a Raichu, and the emeralds were teleported away with the portal beam; without emeralds to fight over, the ships all left.

The heroes returned to Star World, but learned of something troubling--the Chaos Emeralds were all sent to seven different planets! Not wanting to continue the crazed search, Sub said he would alert the Galactic Federation of this so that they could deal with it, and Pyro went to alert the local baker that he was hungry. However, it STILL was not completely over...

Chapter 8: The Pit of 100 Trials

Part 5-27: All Gloom and No Doom

The next day, Top was asleep in his room when the alarm went off; he tried to shut it off, but it wouldn't go off. Then he realized it was Stuffwell, who had detected a chaos emerald! A couple hours later, everyone was at the entrance to The Pit of 100 Trials, which held the emerald at the bottom (supposedly). On the first level, they found a Gloomba; they stomped on it and defeated it. It seemed all too easy until they got to the 10th floor...

On the 10th floor, they saw a giant Gloomba-like Goomboss: Gloomboss. They thought it had shortened to only 10 levels, but in fact it had lengthened to a boss battle each ten levels! Thus, they began to battle against Gloomboss; in the end, they won, and continued traveling downwards.

Part 5-28: Spidershock/Don’t Get Bogged Down

On level 20, they encountered a spider made of electricity, the Electro-Spider. They found that only physical attacks worked against it, and Chibi poofed into an Onix, making it too easy and it was defeated. However, after it was defeated, they saw a yellow orb had appeared, similar to orbs previously obtained in Four Short Anecdotes That All Have Something In Common By Topmonhit, so they took it.

On level 30, they encountered Bogmire, and were able to defeat it by vacuuming it up (then hitting it with fire and blowing it up.)

Part 5-29: A Stone Spirit

On level 40, they encountered Bouldergeist, only with green rocks, making it Hyper Bouldergeist. Although its attack pattern was similar to the normal Bouldergeist, it had several new tricks, including charging up for a mega attack with stalactites and Bomb Boos everywhere, swallowing its tongue/uvula thing, and making rock feet, but eventually they were able to defeat it.

Part 5-30: Past the Halfway Point

On level 50, they found the level was filled with sand. Mummipokey came out, but was quickly defeated; it then began to spin the sand in the room, causing it to spin down into level 51. On level 51, a Shroob UFO appeared and attacked them; the UFO was destroyed, and a Shroob-Omb came out. The Shroob-Omb exploded, breaking a hole in the floor and causing all the sand to break into the next room, and this continued for a while.

Meanwhile, on level 60, a bunch of Dark Boos were floating around, bored. Just then, the sand and everything burst in; the Dark Boos then saw the challengers and merged into Dark Boolossus; they then fought, with Dark Boolossus being defeated.

Part 5-31: Chilly Willy’s Pet

On level 64, a large N walked by them, looked at them, shrugged, then kept going.

On level 70, they encountered an Icy Dino Piranha that they fought. After it was defeated, Topmonhit admitted that he had no bosses for levels 80 or 90, so the next part would feature the final fight.

Part 5-32: The ACTUAL Final Battle… I hope

For the final battle, they encountered... Glooptail! Although they had some trouble at first, including using each other for projectiles, they found that water was the attack of choice against Gooptail. Eventually, Top became Magician Top and pulled out a King Bomb; Pyro lit it, causing the entire room to be blasted. Gooptail was hardened in the goop until it began to crack and a boney dragon similar to Bonetail but with fire in its eyes burst out.

Then they cut to a commercial for Mike 'n' Ikes, actually featuring Mike from WarioWare and Ike from Fire Emblem.

The battle returned, then, and they extinguished the fires in the new dragon's eyes. This caused goop to spurt out everywhere from inside Gooptail, filling the whole room, then it all went away and Gooptail returned. The battle continued for a while until finally they were able to defeat Gooptail, the goop melting off of it and goopy bones coming to the ground. Then they took the Chaos Emerald and the story ended.

Trivia

  • The Koopeleon Colonel, as well as the Koopeleon Fried Chicken, are references to Kentucky Fried Chicken, whose mascot is also its founder, Colonel Sanders.
  • There is a discontinuity in this story in that although TEC and the old X-Naut moon base appeared, no mention of the Cyber Bell Vanguard is ever made, which supposedly merged with the base a few months after its forming. No one cares enough to care about it, however.
  • The giant windsurfing Wiggler was from one of Topmonhit's dreams (and yes, it appeared in Ricco Harbor in the dream).
  • The song Team Flash sang is called Team Flash Song.
  • Part 5-1: The Mysterious Dr. Tyrato is a reference to Super Paper Mario's Chapter 4-4: The Mysterious Mr. L. It's also a reference to how he had been mentioned earlier but never revealed.
  • Part 5-10: Rex’s Unexpected Appearance is a reference to Yoshi's Unexpected Appearance from Super Mario Galaxy.
  • Part 5-17: The Innovation Channel’s Nibbles Week! is a reference to The Discovery Channel's Shark Week held each year during the summer.

Connections to Other Stories

  • The Chaos Emeralds in this story were scattered across Star World by Fake Top in Tihnompot: Witchy Fury, in which they were scattered in the end due to Fake Top's use of them.
  • This is the X-Nauts' first appearance since Oshy and Yisho: Partners in Lemon-Lime, in which Grodus appeared in hte past to try and conquer the planet. Prior to this, his last appearance was in The Shadows Cometh (Or Something Lousy Like That), in which he actually helped the YB stop the Shadow Monarchy from taking over Star World.
  • Both the X-Nauts and Chaos Emeralds would return in The Oddtastic Adventure, although the X-Nauts were not revealed until act 2 and the emeralds had nothing to do with the story until act 4.
  • All of Sandbag's previous appearances have been evil, which is mentioned.
  • The orb obtained in Chapter 8 was in a set of orbs obtained in the previous 4 Anecdotes That All Have Something In Common By Topmonhit and the later Designs Revisited. This is the only connector to those two stories, which is the only reason it is in the arc with them.
  • Later, the Metal Army would find Cosmic Subsourian and (mostly) roboticize it, forming Litera. It is entirely unknown how this was possible, however, as the Cosmic Comet would have left, and the cosmic goo would have formed Cosmic Metal Army Robots had they followed the comet.
  • Dark Top reads a newspaper article about this story in The Top Plot for Takeover.
