Appearances

Star World (sometimes referred to as Mushroom World) is the main planet the Yoshi Bodyguard timeline is focused around, due to the The Yoshi Bodyguards being situated on the surface.

The planet has a diverse climate, with various provinces inhabiting its surface. Most powerful of these are the Mushroom Kingdom and the Koopa Kingdom, which have had a long history of warfare with one another. The Yoshi Bodyguard timeline focuses mostly on the Yoshi Islands, off the eastern coast of the planet's main continent. Star World has had a long and spanning history stretching back thousands of years. The planet was ruled by the Council of Star World, and to ward off constant attack from outside powers, the planet is defended by the Star World Defensive Forces. After the events of the Star World Civil War, the planet came under the protection of the Galactic Federation.

Star World has a twin planet in the same system, named Ryshi.

Geographic features

Star World's geography is immensely diverse, ranging from artic tundras to unhabitable deserts. Life is abundant on the planet, so much so that it houses some of the largest examples of fungi in the local cluster. The planet itself has an average tectonic activity, but for the most part the planet contains one central landmass surrounded by a massive ocean. Once filled with open wilderness, Star World of late has begun to industrialize, population centers sprouting up all over the planet.

History

Pre-History

Star World was created billions of years ago when a local star went supernova, the gas cooling to form into a new system. Several billion years later, a strange race arrived, known only as the Stars. These strange creatures, unknown in origin, settled above Star World, creating large sky-cities. Today, two remaining examples of these are known as Star Road and Star Haven. It is possible that because of the Stars, that the Celestial Architects who inhabited the nearby planetary cluster avoided disturbing the local system. The Stars would later evolve into a variety of stratospheric "star-based" races that now inhabit the planet's stratosphere."

Eventually, on the planet below, new forms of life began to arise. It is unknown if the Stars had any influence over the development of life on the planet, but after several million years the population of the planet started to develop sentience. It is unknown what civilization emerged first; many ruins continue to be discovered to this day. Still, the two primary races to emerge and remain to present day were the Toads, mushroom-like humanoids, and the Koopas, who resemble humanoid turtles.

The Toads were scattered on the eastern side of the mainland, divided into tribes and clans. The Koopas were moreso situated in the mountainous terrain up north, which dominated much of the landscape. The Koopas were the first to unite, forming a small kingdom which eventually grew in size. They soon began taking lands to the south, absorbing the Goombas, distant relatives of the Toads who were situated more in the center of the continent, and the Boos, who were scattered spirits who lived throughout the land.

On the islands to the east, the Yoshis entered a sentient stage. Yoshis were dinosaur-like creatures, who were more peaceful in their isolation than the other clans on the mainland. Different tribes evolved differently on each island of the Yoshi Archipelago, which is still prevalent in the diversity of the species today.

Culture

The culture of Star World is a diverse one. Up until fairly recently the planet has not been united, and a variety of seperate nations held their own traditions and languages. Each nation holds their own monarchies, which until the Treaty of Mushroom Kingdom held absolute power over their respective nations. Now each nation also holds a Prime Minister who has executive power over their respective nation, and a councilman to represent them on the interplanetary stage. Only in the Koopa Kingdom and several western nations do the monarchies still hold executive power.

Star World is a paradox in that it has both a reputation as a peace-loving and joyful world, yet holds one of the largest standing armies in the local galaxy. This is largely due to repeated invasions, most of which has been repelled. Star World has been evacuated three times, and has endured a five month long Dark Age that had destroyed 20% of the planet's population. The hardship of the past decade has made the people of Star World into a hardened breed, and the Star World Defensive Forces are well known as superior fighters.

Trivia

  • The name, Star World, came from the RP named the Koopa Keep, a name that simply stuck. Sneezier and Subsourian brought in the name during the YB's early days. This was before Super Mario Galaxy, which confirmed the name as Mushroom World. Most authors in the timeline operate under the assumption that the name was changed when the Mario timeline was modified.
