The Titan of Phazon

The Titan of Phazon is a Yoshi Bodyguards story arc involving the infection of Star World with Phazon, used by the nearly-destroyed Titan of Thunder, Sango, to be reborn. It is one of two continuation branches of The Dark Ages, as it features one of the primary antagonists from it. The story was done mostly by Yoshidot with some input from MDY, done over five different events lasting several months.

Story

Anubis soon returned, remembering his promise to Asmodeus that he would watch over the YB.

As Anubis continued to age rapidly, he traveled to the frozen Loch Yoshiler where a group of gray wolves attacked him. He collapsed, but a snow-white wolf brought him to a kingdom made of ice and snow: the Ice Kingdom. He met the queen, a white wolf named Saarlos, who explained that Anubis was really Winmer, and that his mother had been murdered by the kingdom's mortal enemies who were experimenting with phazon. Anubis was then escorted back to the YB HQ.

Before long Amar returned, his fur stained with blood. He collapsed and died, and Anubis ran to the Ice Kingdom which had been under attack. He found it destroyed, and in his weakened physical state collapsed. He awoke in a place completely white save two blue eyes. Here he was given new powers and became Samael Winmer, a servant of the queen who had the ability to ascend to higher planes of existence. He had trouble keeping his new powers under control, though, leaving him unable to speak with the YBs for a little while.

Meanwhile, Koop went into the forest looking for Anubis, worried about his physical state. He came across the same pack of gray wolves that had attacked Anubis before; learning Anubis was alone, they went off to find him, though Saarlos took him away before they could find him. The leader, meanwhile, attacked Koop, injuring him; before the wolf killed him though, Noshum, a Shadow Creature the YB had met before Anubis had gone to the Ice Kingdom, arrived and fought off the wolf, after which he brought Koop back to the HQ.

A little while later a blue oho jee arrived at the HQ; soon after the Phazon-Anubis returned, and with Anubis' new powers was much less of a match. The oho jee jumped on the Phazon-Anubis, though, and they recognized each other as sources of phazon. Though the oho jee absorbed some phazon from the Phazon-Anubis, Anubis separated it with a light shield. He learned from Phazon-Anubis who created it, and then killed it by snapping its neck.

Anubis let the oho jee free to examine it, as it ran over to the Phazon-Anubis' corpse and began to devour it. It mutated into a horrible creature, but Anubis blocked it from attacking the YB with a light shield. Unable to do anything, it left, and came across some Yoshi Clone scouts it attacked. Getting a report of this, PB went after it and fought it; he did little, but was able to enrage it with attacks enough that it literally exploded from anger. A few strange creatures then attacked PB with advanced weaponry

Koop had gathered information on phazon from the Phazon-Anubis and began work on a prototype rifle that could damage phazon-mutated creatures and a suit that was resistant to phazon. He wanted to test-run it and located a phazon-mutant at Yoshi's Island, so some YBs headed there to fight it. The creature turned out to be a monstrous, mutated shy guy who destroyed Koop's ship. During the fight, however, a meteorite made of phazon appears in the sky and hits the mutant shy guy, mutating it further and increasing its size dramatically to thirty feet tall. They were able to incapacitate the shy guy, though, and Koop tried to calm it down to get the phazon's effects out of its head.

About this time another shy guy appeared who referred to the mutated one as his sister. Koop tried to use his phazon-based inventions to cure the mutated shy guy, Shirl, but they overloaded and exploded, infecting Koop and the other shy guy, Shuy, with phazon. Anubis arrived and opened a portal to bring them back to the HQ where Koop placed Shuy in a containment field he had designed. Koop had trouble fighting the phazon, though, so Anubis placed him in another containment field and activated them, curing Koop and Shuy of the phazon.

Meanwhile, the YB HQ was attacked by a troop of Space Pirates, doing a large amount of damage to the HQ. The YB later went back to Yoshi's Island to investigate another mutated creature, a giant whacka. They fought and weakened it, and then followed it underground to find where it had gotten the phazon. They came across a base underground that was mining phazon, with a room filled with stores of it. Just as they found a large storage of it, a phazon-mutated yoshi broke in. After getting a few shots in with the phazon rifles, the phazon-yoshi called for help and a gigantic phazon-mutated wayoshi appeared.

With a ferocious creature seventy feet tall, the Yoshi Clone Army was brought in to evacuate the island. The damage from the phazon-wayoshi caused the base to collapse and they had to escape. While most YBs escaped, some were trapped in the collapsed base. Koop and Shuy found a room still with power, and found a device that could teleport people using light particles. The device had teleported them to a large crater with phazon in the air, and they used the device to upgrade the Golden Shrooms and were teleported to the location of some other YBs.

After Koop and Shuy reached the surface of Yoshi's Island again, the phazon-yoshi and phazon-wayoshi attacked again. The YB retreated back to the HQ, and Koop went off to investigate another area of concentrated phazon. About this time a luminoth arrived at the HQ, asking to speak with the leader. As he was not there, the luminoth settled with Shuy; he had come to discuss phazon with them. Blue clouds began to gather in the sky; the phazon had mixed with water and evaporated, and it was going to rain down phazon. The YB planned to get a message out to everyone on the planet, to take shelter to avoid the phazon rain.

Anubis returned to help, and they all sent out a message to the people of the planet to stay indoors. However, they realized Koop was still out there. They called him, but he refused to back down and threw away his Golden Shroom. Anubis and V-Mos ascended the planes to send a message to creatures to stay indoors using the auras. The rain then begins, and the YBs wait inside the HQ. After Anubis and V-Mos return, though, they overhear an ear-splitting cracking noise and a low roar. The nearby Forest of Illusion had reacted to the phazon rain, and the trees themselves were becoming mutant monsters.

The YB fled the HQ in their ships, heading for the Green House, but were attacked by a swarm of mutated paratroopas. While being attacked Top got a call from Yoshi, telling him that Anubis contacted him and there's been a change of course: Anubis found where the phazon had been coming from. As they headed to where Anubis was, the paratroopas were incinerated by sudden lightning strikes. They arrived at a huge crater and Anubis gave them light shields so that the rain wouldn't touch them.

The YB entered a cavern and found a vast room where a 70-foot long phazon-colored cobra was situated: the Titan of Thunder, Sango, inside the body of a cobra that merged with a Metroid Prime that had landed on Star World. Anubis and V-Mos blocked Sango's attack with a light shield and yelled at everyone to run. Sango shattered the shield and blasted Anubis back, destroying his light shield and seemingly killing him. After this Sango picked him up and ate him. V-Mos gets an idea and attacks Sango's eyes, damaging him.

Sango got a hit in on V-Mos and the light shields faded, but the YBs still put up a fight. Eventually they were able to find some weaknesses of Sango's, and after some hits to the stomach he vomited phazon, stomach acid, and a big spiked koopa shell: Koop, mutated with phazon. Sango created a red phazon shell around himself, and when the shell broke his head flew out. The headless torso lifted up and began to absorb all the surrounding phazon, including the phazon that had mutated Koop. It then began to suck in all the phazon on the entire planet, cleansing everything of the mutagen.

Sango also absorbed Anubis, who had been mutated by the phazon inside Sango; once he entered, Anubis overloaded Sango's body and it exploded. Anubis then destroyed the head of Sango and absorbed all of his phazon, and then ascended the planes once more. Meanwhile, Shuy found that V-Mos had disappeared. Everyone was ready to rejoice that the phazon was gone, but were worried about Anubis now being infected with phazon, and if he could handle it as a demigod. They returned to the HQ to find it had survived the tree attack.

Trivia

• Strangely enough, pretty much all the stories unrelated to the arc that took place while it was going on were done by Duth. Go figure.
