The Yoshi Bodyguards (YBs) was an organization originally founded for the purpose of defending Prime Minister Yoshi. It contained groups from all around the universe, heroes from the furthest reaches of space. It was founded by Asmodeus Yoshilier, though it also housed other legendary figures such as Mack, Top, and Sneezier. Together, they defeated some of the universe's most dangerous villains, both on Star World and throughout the universe. Also of note is its Clone Army, which continued even after the groups breakup.

The Yoshi Bodyguards were the main focus of the Yoshi Bodyguard Universe (as stated by the name), and though the group broke up in the canon, its influence is stated in almost every story, character, and event in the timeline.

The Founding

The Yoshi Bodyguards were founded by Asmodeus Yoshilier, born into the famed Yoshilier family whose decedents won fame and fortune when they defeated the demon Varfendor hundreds years ago. His cousin Yoshi was a considerable political figure and important politican for the Yoshi Islands. This lead him to being a target for enemies such as the Koopa Kingdom or the FOEA, which constantly attempted to remove him from office by kidnapping or force. In response, Asmodeus gathered together the most talented group of individual fighters he could find. This group was the Yoshi Bodyguards, and they had one purpose: Defend Yoshi.

The first to respond were enduring figures such as Topper Mon Hit, Mexous Sniffin, Mack, and Power Box (It's a little-known fact that Top Mon Hit came a bit later). Several operations were upheld to defend Yoshi from captors, mostly from the Koopa Kingdom, though with the recent integration of space travel, extraterrestrial threats also threatened his safety. Incidents such as the Atomic Bill Crisis nearly devastated the Yoshi Bodyguards, though they continued on through, reforming after every loss.

The early adventures of the Yoshi Bodyguards were not very well chronicled, but it was known many were random and choppy, fighting some of the most unlikely villains. Many times, different groups would work on different missions, eventually going beyond defending Yoshi. Histories of members became involved, and what started as an honor guard became a group rivaling the SWDF as Star World's primary defensive group.

The Forces of Evil and the Clone Army

The Yoshi Bodyguards job became much more complicated once Yoshi was elected Prime Minister of The Mushroom Kingdom. His term in office was met with public outcry, and many groups unlawfully profited under the former administration. Worst of these was Darkcorp, whose CEO then began a series of attacks on the Yoshi Bodyguards, attempting to remove them and the prime minister from office via hit and run tactics. Eventually, Darkcorp was defeated, their influence on the universe broken.

All the while, two other threats rose up. The Confederation of Universal Evil and the Federation of Evil Acquaintances both declared war on the Yoshi Bodyguards. The FOEA's was formed from foes enemies the Yoshi Bodyguards had defeated, and targeted the Yoshi Bodyguards proper as opposed to Yoshi alone. The fight with them was long and fierce, eventually leading to the streets of Mushroom Kingdom, but they, too, were broken eventually.

The COUE, however, took far longer to uproot. Their goals were simply to dominate Star World to spread their ideologies, as well as exploit the planet's resources. Thus, a more organized effort with the SWDF was used to ward them away. With the core members of the Yoshi Bodyguards set against the FOEA (among other factions that opened up at the time), this left Subsourian the Dark and Sneezier as the primary tacticians against their operations.

Though FOEA eventually disbanded and the YB and warded away the COUE, it became increasingly clear they could not deal with a full-scale military force with numbers so low.

That all changed soon after. Mack and Sneezier formed an army from the cells of different Yoshi Bodyguard members. This was the Yoshi Bodyguard Clone Army, numbering in the thousands. They were put to use against the COUE, handily weakening their forces. Though several members disliked the use of clones, they did prove useful in operations thereafter where the core group could not manage.

The Dark Ages

See Dark Ages

The Yoshi Bodyguards were truly tested soon after. The Yoshilier family line's history finally came back, when the demon Vaufendor arose from his defeat long ago. He put into ploy a long-awaited plan, where he unleashed a mass of demons upon Star World. In the chaos, Asmodeus's adopted son Summer Yoshilier heard the whispers of Vaufendor, and killed Asmodeus in cold blood.

The other Yoshi Bodyguards were scattered, using the base's warp gate to escape the demon's grip. Some of them returned to Star World, attempting to fight off Vaufendor. Others went on adventures of their own, while others simply went to find refuge until the events blew over. The Clones, however, were not so lucky, and many were slaughtered in the first week either in the base or in defense.

Summer took on the name of Lord Fazar, leading the demons across Star World. Meanwhile, Asmodeus's other adopted son, Anubis Yoshilier wandered the planet, attempting to find a way to defeat Vaufendor. Several other forces lead open resistance on Star World, though it was in vain. Cities such as Yoshioplis were utterly devastated, while Mushroom Kingdom and the Koopa Kingdom managed to defend themselves against the demon invasion for long enough to keep their holdings.

Anubis was captured by Fazar, but then discovered the demon's secret: He was serving a higher master, the legendary Dark Titans. Anubis escaped, but was too late to stop their summoning. The resistance was devastated as their mere presence dissolved all metal.

Anubis eventually did face off against Fazar, almost defeating him, but discovering the connection between the two: if Summer died, so would Anubis. Vaufendor taunted him, but Anubis dueled him, defeating him in combat, using a pendant of his father to destroy him.

Subsourian the Dark, along with the Lost leader Trema, attempted to fight the Titans, but failed, Sub managing to stall the Titans with a full Ereshikigal, though it ravaged him for months onward. The Titans did recover, and summoned their master, a massive octopus-like demon sealed in the very dimension. Once summoned, it began to consume entire planets and fleets in his way, and was ready to destroy Star World.

It was then Anubis stood on one of the highest mountains, and raised his pendant to the sky. It summoned a massive bird creature, who destroyed the Titans, and battled with the planet-eating demon. The two seemed evenly matched until a song played throughout the universe, sang by a massive turtle, which lulled the fighting creatures to sleep. Eventually, Star World regained its former life. With that, the Dark Ages ended.

Also of note was the appearance of Asmodeus III, Yoshi's true son, who had been discovered near the end of the Dark Ages.

Reconstruction and New Battles

After the end of the Dark Ages, the Yoshi Bodyguards helped with the reconstruction of Star World, even helping to found the new Yoshi Islands capitol of New Yoshiolpis. Anubis gained control of the Yoshi Bodyguards, gathering its surviving members together, and (after pressure from Sneezier and Subsourian) allowed for the reformation of the Clone Army. The SWDF acknowledged the power of the organization, though the Council of Star World began to become skeptical of the power of the private fighting force.

After several missions, the Yoshi Bodyguards began to even gain their own fleet, allowing for universal missions. Constant trips were made to planets such as Pokeworld, Popstar, and Rareworld either to aid in deep seeded problems from Star World, or to aid in the personal history of members.

Nearly a year after Anubis took command, he vanished. The Yoshi Bodyguards were sent to Hylia in order to track him down, and ended up on a dream island, controlled by the spirit of Fazar, who lured the Yoshi Bodyguards into a trap. His spirit was defeated, and Anubis renounced command of the Yoshi Bodyguards.

There was then a split of leadership in the organization. Asmodeus III was deemed the "true heir" to the organization, but was considered too young to accept command, and went off on his own soon after. Mack, second in command, and leader of the Clone Army, vanished as well. Various attempts were made to find him, but none were successful. In response, Top and Pyro took control of the organization proper, Mexous and Subsourian both co-commanded the Clone Army. These leadership roles were mostly merely symbolic, as most core members were treated even in rank.

With the fall of the COUE, the Yoshi Bodyguards were thought to have overcome their last threat to the universe. However, in an attempt to secure a war Titan, they discovered Metal Sneezier, an old foe, had unleashed a massive army on the universe.

The Yoshi Bodyguards provided help to the Alliance of Worlds in the Metal Wars, the clones proving themselves on par with the SWDF ground forces. Much of the clone army was diverted to this conflict, while other members tackled individual missions.

The Break-up

During this time, many of the core members resigned from the organization. Top, Oshy, and Topper all decided to form their own team, Team TOT, going on their own adventures and taking justice into their own hands. Many quit seeing very little use anymore. Others disliked the use of the Clone Army.

Regardless, the Yoshi Bodyguards soon faced a debasing trial. On Chronis, nine factions collided in the bloodiest battle of the Metal Wars. The Storm Angel's 66th Division was given Order Extermanatis, where all active forces were to be neutralized by any means necessary. This conflicted with the orders SWDF 1st Chronis Liberators, who were to retreat under no circumstances. When the SWDF refused to back down, the Yoshi Bodyguards attacked the SWDF position, killing war hero Lucas Alexander as well as thousands of soldiers. Though the SWDF remnants forced the Yoshi Bodyguards off the planet, the damage was done.

The Council of Star World ordered the organization's core to be broken up. The Clone Army, as well as those commanding it, would be merged into the Star World Defensive Forces. Several members stayed behind with the Clone Army, taking high positions in the SWDF. Most other members simply retired, never being heard from again. Still other went off on their own, forming their own groups to combat the evil of the universe.

The Influence of the Yoshi Bodyguards

While the Yoshi Bodyguards were gone, their influence would always be noted on Star World. They were responsible for fighting off the FOEA, COUE, Metal Army, and other groups who sought to harm Prime Minister Yoshi, the Yoshi Island, or Star World in general. Many of these groups have been all but defeated, while others have regained power since their defeat, eager for revenge against the former members.

There is still tension between the Yoshi Bodyguards and the SWDF for Chronis, even after the merger. Though issues have died down since the end of the Metal Wars, they are still notable.

Many groups can attribute themselves to the Yoshi Bodyguards, Team TOT being based off splinter members of the group to do lower scale missions. The SWDF has adopted premises of the Yoshi Bodyguards, and continues their clone program. The influence of the Yoshilier family has seen him rise to a near sainthood after the defeat of the Eater of Worlds, many believing them to be an incarnation of light. Oddly enough, there has been no sign of Asmodeus III since he left.

Trivia

  • The Yoshi Bodyguards was the name of the RP on the Nintendo Nsider Forums that sparked the entire Yoshi Bodyguard universe. Originally a random roleplay with little story, character backgrounds and a universe eventually developed into the mythos.
  • Many of the Yoshi Bodyguards stories were lost, as Nsider's archives were deleted and nobody had set boundaries for their RPs. It wasn't until the RP moved into its own forum that stories have set beginnings and ends and were kept track of. However, NSider was recently found to be on the Internet Archive; much of it is missing, however, but some of the old YB is there.
  • The Yoshi Guardsmen was Sub's original plan for a "normal fighting force for Star World," being a subsidiary of the Yoshi Bodyguards. Sub scrapped this idea, as it made the organization more military-based than even he wanted.
