Notable Space Pirates

Space Pirates are a conglomeration of species that are united under a single banner, operating as a smuggling and criminal organization with aims to destroy the Galactic Federation. They are most well known for their involvement in the Phazon and Metroid crises. The Space Pirates operate as a military unit, striking venerable locations of the Federation where they see fit. They are constantly foiled by Samus Aran, and after the loss of their homeworld and the second destruction of the planet Zebes they have vanished as a threat to the Federation. On more then one occasion they have come to odds with the Yoshi Bodyguards, raiding their headquarters several times for data or technology.

History

Beginnings

The core Space Pirate species evolved on the world of Urtraghus, a harsh wasteland constantly bombarded with acid rain. In the early years, the Space Pirates were immune to the acid rain and grew strong armored husks that prevented them from harm, though much of the husk has vanished with time. Space Pirates were very militant and scientifically curious, going from baseline to space travel in little less than 450 years.

Space Pirates met the Salanos Galaxy with hostility, using their technological superiority to plunder the weaker civilizations of the nearby systems. Meanwhile, they continued to evolve themselves using their limited knowledge of genetics. Many of these tests resulted in grotesque mutations of the Pirates involved, but many more resulted in advanced organic weapons, improved physical shape and sharper mental power.

These early years were a golden age for the Space Pirate civilization. At this point they had supremacy over a galaxy and a small empire at their command. Art began to flourish, with medical advances rapidly advancing. A small population boom on Urtraghus, which allowed them to settle on outer systems.

Later the Galactic Federation would explore the Salanos Galaxy. At first the Space Pirates met them little resistance, but after forming alliances with the systems that were raided by the Space Pirates they mounted a defense in an attempt to drive them out of the galaxy. This attempt failed when the Federation sent a force to pacify all rebelling civilizations of the Salanos, the Space Pirates included. This attack destroyed their fleets, and drove them back to their homeworld, which was never discovered by the Federation.

For a time, they could only wait until they grew back in number. Space Pirates would be a menace for the next two hundred years, assaulting supply lines and destroying outlying outposts in the sector. The bulk of their forces were kept back on their homeworld, as they gathered enough technology to beat the Federation. In this time they gathered forces from other civilizations displaced by the Federation, including the Ki-Hunters, an insectoid race of creatures. In addition, the first genetic variations of the Space Pirate race began to appear, artificial genetic manipulation being used to diversity various pirates to better suit their raiding tactics.

Shadow War and First Strike on Zebes

The Space Pirates began to grow in strength through the mid-1800s. Their campaigns were focused on raiding wayward Federation ports and research stations in order to augment their own technological arsenal. These technologies would be augmented to aid with the flexibility of the Space Pirate stratagem, allowing for the quick deployment of bases on planets out of the reach of the Federation. The Space Pirate's genetic research also allowed them to manipulate local wildlife of their colonized to be more violent and aggressive, giving them a line of defense against Federation forces who came to root them out.

Pirate raids became a problem by the early 1920s, accounting for trillions in damages on fringe outposts and colonies and arming much of the Federation crime syndicates. In response, in 1934 the Federation formed the Galactic Federation Police Force, whose specific purpose was to destroy Space Pirate bases, stop raiding operations and intercept any smuggling efforts they would partake in. At first this showed little difference, until 1960 when they started sending specialized Bounty Hunters after Space Pirate bases.

The Space Pirates would come into conflict with another non-Federation species at the time named the Chozo, an avian race who reached a technological apex and had begun to transcend to a plain of higher understanding. Seeing their superior technology and low numbers, the Space Pirates launched a campaign targeting Chozo temples and relics, with the hope to intercept any edge they could gain against the Federation. Among these advancements came the introduction of the Power Beam to the Space Pirate arsenal, in addition to new forms of armor.

In 1982 the Space Pirates launched a raid on the Federation colony K-2L. This raid was headed by Ridley, and was to gain the vast Afloraltite reserves located on the world. This raid also held significance as it was a key link between the Chozo core planet Zebes and the Federation. The raid was considered to be one of the most brutal, leading to a total purge of the colony. Chozo forces were dispatched to help repel the invaders, but by the time they had arrived the colony was destroyed and hundreds of thousands were killed.

In 1993 Space Pirates launched an invasion of Zebes. Defenses were erected, but a stolen micro-black hole Chozo warpdrive in the Space Pirate capitol ship allowed them to breach all planetary shields. A small defense was given, but was soon torn down when most of the Chozo surrendered on the spot. Among these was the Chozo biomechanical computer Mother Brain, who had been working with the Pirates in exchange for a role in their command structure. Chozo genetic technology was used by the pirates in this short occupation period, creating a strain of pirates who identified themselves as "Zebian." A rebellion was lead by the human Samus Aran, who was raised by the Chozo and the leader Grey Voice, who feigned surrender to the Space Pirates for the opportunity to damage Mother Brain.

A period of chaos broke out as the remaining Chozo attempted to evacuate the planet. Grey Voice's disabling of Mother Brain was nearly successful when it was intercepted by Ridley. An attempt was made by the Space Pirate fleet to pursue the evacuating Chozo, but a Federation naval force under Commander Adam Malkovich arrived and destroyed the pirate flagship. The remaining Space Pirate forces scattered, with Mother Brain and Ridley escaping Zebes. However, the Chozo's numbers were crippled by the occupation, and they abandoned the planet soon after the Pirated evacuated.

The Metroid Crisis

After the first Zebes invasion, the Space Pirates reformed at Urtraghus. Space Pirate Central Command was reformed, with Mother Brain now the driving intelligence behind the Space Pirates, and Ridley and Kraid (a highly mutated Space Pirate) as lieutenants. The Space Pirates now focused on finding a weapon that could give them an edge against the Federation, with seventeen Frigate Fleets now being formed with the express purpose of uncovering some new form of superweapon.

This did not take long, as Frigate Spiral intercepted a Federation dispatch regarding the recently scouted planet SR388. On the surface 80% of recorded biological life had been reduced to a stone-like state, the cause being a jellyfish-like species of creature known as the Metroids. These creatures were resistant to nearly all known forms of weaponry, could absorb energy from whatever it latched onto, and multiplied in a manner very similar to cellular reproduction when exposed to beta waves. Mother Brain ordered that these creatures be taken and researched for their utilities as a bioweapon and the possibility of splicing their genetic stock with that of the Space Pirate forces.

Mother Brain moved ordered an attack on the research team's vessel, which had taken a Metroid in suspended animation. This attack was a success. In order to prevent chase by the Federation, Mother Brain and Kraid took the Metroid to Zebes with a very small research team. The purpose of this was twofold: Mother Brain hoped the Federation would not suspect that the Space Pirates would operate out of the planet they were forced out of, and she had hoped that the Chozo databanks would uncover more information on the Metroids. More information was, but it was never shared outside of Mother Brain. Cloning had begun on the Metroids, and by 1998 there were ten Metroid bioforms on Zebes.

From here there was a three-way attack on the Federation done by the Space Pirates, hitting three human colonies with a single Metroid. All colonies were raided and destroyed with no pirate casualties. The Space pirates then sent a Mimic (a creature able to imitate the forms of others) to assassinate Chairman Keaton, who had recently been elected to his post. This was foiled by Samus Aran, who linked the attack to the Space Pirates and discovered they had operated out of Zebes. The Federation Police launched a land invasion of the planet, but were repelled by the bioengineered wildlife.

The Police Force then hired Samus Aran to infiltrate Zebes. In response Mother Brain sent a distress signal to Urtraghus, which Ridley and a Pirate force responded to. Kraid was first killed by Samus, though part of his remains were recovered in the aftermath. Ridley then faced Samus, but was too repelled. Samus then raided the lair of Mother Brain, killing all planetbound Metroids on the way. Here she discovered that they had a strong weakness to extreme cold, something the Space Pirates would try to engineer out. Mother Brain's body was destroyed, but not before she attempted to activate the self-destruct sequence for the top layer of Zebes. Samus escaped, but was shot down by the Space Pirate Mothership that Ridley had arrived in. She then infiltrated the ship, destroying it and the Pirates inside.

The remaining frigates in orbit move in to assess the damage, one of which recovered Ridley, barely alive after her encounter, as well as several surviving Space Pirates, most famously the future bounty hunter Weavel. Kraid's remains were also recovered. Mother Brain had set up a backup for her consciousness deep in a Chozo supercomputer deep inside the planet, but was forced to remain dormant and assumed dead by the Space Pirates.

Phazon Crisis

Discovery of Phazon

The Space Pirates took what remaining Metroids they had and tried to reform. With central command gone and Ridley incapacitated they resorted back to a loose chain of command. The frigates from Zebes had scattered, moving what remaining Metroids there were to safe havens. One of the primary frigates was Orpheon, which contained several batches of Metroids and a recovering Ridley, who was being transplanted into a robotic exoskeleton. They arrived on the abandoned Chozo world of Tallon IV, hoping to resupply on their way back to Urtraghus. The pirates were first ambushed by strange apparitions known as Chozo Ghosts before discovering a ruin built around a large crater, which seemed to contain a powerful liquid-like ore. This ore was Phazon, and was taken back to the frigate to be experimented on.

The ore, the pirates discovered, was a very powerful mutagen able to strengthen various creatures if used correctly. Initial tests were failure and resulted in insanity, increased aggression, brain tissue deterioration, and, eventually, death. Undeterred, the Space Pirates contacted Urtraghus with their discovery and set up a base on the surface. The first successful tests were on the planets local insect parasites, which grew to a massive size with increased physical and mental characteristics. These were known as Parasite Queens, and from their corpses a weaker Phazon was extracted that allowed for use on Space Pirates. Project Helix began, which was the mutation of Space Pirates. Despite the many failures, a team of Elite Pirates came from this program, including the highly mutated Omega Pirate.

Tests also began on the Metroids in the ship's stock. These produced strains known as Hunter Metroids, which had higher energy absorbing capability but lost their immunity to most weapons. The team also began using Chozo technology from the ruins to replicate Samus Aran's weapons and arsenal. Some success was given, creating the Power, Wave, Ice, and Plasma Pirate divisions. A large creature was discovered in the core of the Chozo Ruin around the impact crater that leaked Phazon, and the Space Pirates attempted to break in through the walls of the ruin to reach it, but with little success. Accidental spilling of Phazon lead to the animation of a rock creature known as Thardus, which was quickly contained.

All was going well until a Parasite Queen got loose on the Orpheon and broke through most of the systems. Lab experiments began to run rampant and overcame the pirate crew. Part of the team evacuated to the surface, and an SOS was sent out to Urtraghus. However the signal was intercepted by the Galactic Federation, who sent Samus in to investigate. Samus arrived and destroyed the Orpheon, accidentally releasing Ridley in the process. She then pursued him to the surface of the planet, and investigated the Pirate operation there. Upon discovering Phazon, she sought to destroy the substance.

Samus destroyed all of the Space Pirate's Elite Pirate corps, and recovered the keys left by the Chozo to the Impact Crater. Ridley attempted to intercept her, but failed. Samus entered the primary crater, which was revealed to be a Leviathan Seed with a Metroid-based Guardian known as Metroid Prime. Samus killed Metroid Prime, but not before it absorbed the Phazon in her suit. The destruction of the guardian, who had absorbed the Phazon core, caused the crater to collapse and the Phazon on the planet to quickly die off.

Reformation and Hunt for the Ultimate Power

After the destruction of the Tallon IV operation Pirate Command sent a force to recover Ridley and the surviving Space Pirates. A small base was set up on the remains of the Phazon mines, but most operations on Tallon IV were abandoned. Space Pirate raids against the Federation continued, but Ridley sought to continue Mother Brain's plan of finding an edge against the Federation. Experiments with the surviving Metroids continued, and a renewed search for Phazon began.

The Space Pirates discovered a major source of Phazon on the planet of Aether, which had been ripped into two separate dimensions by the impact of a Leviathan Seed. A small operation was sent to the surface, but contact with creatures known as the Ing proved too much for a direct confrontation. The Space Pirates set up a cloaking field around their base, allowing them to mine Phazon from a safe vantage point.

Meanwhile, a message was sent across the universe on a large scale from the Tetra Galaxy, reading "The key to the ultimate power lies in the Alimbic Cluster." Factions from across the universe were notified of this, and but more information was needed in order to pinpoint exactly where the cluster was located. The Space Pirates sent the recently reformed bounty hunter Weavel to the Yoshi Bodyguard headquarters on Star World, where he raided their databanks for more information. Eventually repelled, he followed several other hunters to the system. A battle occurred between Weavel and six other bounty hunters, as well as the Yoshi Bodyguards aiding Samus Aran. Eventually Weavel discovered that the power was a trap laid by the interdimensional being known as Gorea, and he was beaten. Weavel survived and retreated, reporting the situation to Space Pirate Command. The Space Pirates continued to monitor the Yoshi Bodyguards from this point on, seeing their base as a vulnerable source of information and technology.

Sub just realized that Space Pirate Panic occured after the Titan of Phazon which messes with his explanation as to why the Space Pirates were spreading Phazon since Panic was supposed to be the events of Metroid Prime Hunters which occured before 2 and 3 and kajdklajsklfjalf we are experiencing technical difficulties.
