Chaos Emeralds

From Yb Timeline

It all starts with this, a jewel containing the ultimate power."

-Shadow in Sonic Adventure 2

The seven Chaos Emeralds are seven emeralds with mystical and powerful properties on Mobius. They are of an unknown origin, but appear to have some connection to the Master Emerald. For centuries they have been sought by many, both for good and evil purposes. This fight has, in recent times, gone beyond Mobius to other planets in the universe, often escelating to full planetary searches for them. There is also an alter-dimensional version of them known as the Sol Emeralds.

History

The Chaos Emeralds' origins are shrouded in mystery, having been around for thousands of years. They are linked with the Master Emerald, which has the power to neutralize the emeralds' power. Although Sonic the Hedgehog and Dr. Eggman have fought over them for many years, at one point Tabbir "Whirl" and Slike F. Elion fought over them instead. This ended in them scattering beyond Mobius and Top Mon Hit, along with a band of merry men or something, went to collect them so that Top could defeat his brother, Mot. After this, they were stored in Peach's Castle, where they were stolen but then returned.

They were stolen once more, this time by Metal Sonic and other robotic doppelgangers of Sonic's friends. The Yoshi Bodyguards came to fight it, but were hit by a surprise attack by Dark Top, who took back the Dark Chaos Emerald, a Chaos Emerald he had created but was stolen from him by Top during The Dark Ages. Top had to take the Chaos Emeralds and absorb their power to defeat Dark Top, and in the end the Dark Chaos Emerald was supposedly destroyed and the Chaos Emeralds were scattered once more.

A couple years later, Cackletta, Fawful and Gruntilda created a Fake Top to frame Top with, having it steal, among other things, the Chaos Emeralds. Top broke out of jail, though, and with his friends, fought Cackletta. It was interrupted when Chicken Head, Subsourian the Dark and Top's Lawyer entered, having found the stash, but then Fake Top used the emeralds to become a near-perfect form of Top, but was defeated and the Emeralds scattered across Star World.

Later, Grodus and the X-Nauts would attempt to obtain the seven emeralds on Star World, and the YB would once again oppose them. In the end, Dr. Eggman and Slike appeared as well, trying to get the emeralds, and in order to stop them they were scattered across the cosmos to seven different planets. The search temporarily ended, none wanting to take the time to locate them all. However, one was found by the Metal Army, which was used to power the Citadel of Ultima at Alinos; another was found by The Yoshi Bodyguards at the bottom of the Pit of 100 Trials in Rogueport. At an unknown point, Cackletta, Fawful and Gruntilda found the Rareworld emerald.

Once Dr. Eggman had located the emerald on Mobius, he traveled to Star World once more to obtain the emerald there, suspecting that the YB had found it. His interruption ruined a plan Grodus had going on at the moment, but realized if Eggman was going after the emeralds, now was a prime time for him to, and a scramble began throughout the cosmos. Grodus traveled to Popstar, where he located the emerald in possession of King Dedede; Dedede was defeated, and Grodus took the emerald.

At Star World, Cackletta and Fawful had used the emerald they had found to power a machine creating a so-called miracle medicine that could cure anything. Gruntilda, meanwhile, was obtaining the emerald on Hylia. En route back to Star World, however, Grodus and the X-Nauts attacked her, and she was defeated. Meanwhile, on the Pokeworld, Mario, Luigi and Yoshi located an emerald themselves. However, as Dr. Eggman confronted Cackletta and Fawful for their emerald, Grodus showed up and attacked them both, managing to obtain both emeralds. Mario, Luigi and Yoshi returned to see Grodus with five of the emeralds, and quickly defeated the brothers and Yoshi, getting six of the emeralds.

Meanwhile, some conscripts Grodus had hired were attempting to obtain the final emerald, but there ended up being a betrayal, and they never obtained it before Grodus was finally defeated by a massive band of heroes fighting him all at once. Grodus' body was destroyed, but he regrouped with the rest of his X-Naut fleet and attacked a Metal Army base, Alinos, where their emerald was. They attacked and made it into the citadel on the planet, where Grodus learned it was powering the Ultimate AI, a device that could control the Metal Army robots. Grodus then took the Citadel of Ultima, but the Metal Army planned to return.

The rest of the emeralds were scattered once more, this time on Mobius. Slike, who had inadvertedly created a near-infinite army of him by breaking a hole in time, quickly began to gather these emeralds until he had five. Whirl and Evelyn held on to one, escaping into the jungle, while the remaining one was held by the X-Nauts. Slike managed to obtain the one Whirl had, then launched an attack on the Citadel of Ultima, stealing the seventh and blasting out as Dark Slike. However, thanks to The Doctor's TARDIS, Slike's hole in time was fixed and things reverted back to just one Slike, with the emeralds scattering once more.

One Emerald returned to the Citadel, where Grodus continued to power the Ultimate AI. Enni obtained another emerald, although it is unknown what she has done with it. Another emerald came to Arami, which she hid. The emerald at the Citadel of Ultima would not last, however, as after the Metal Army was defeated, the heir, Omega, built up a new army and took back the Citadel. It then tossed the emerald into a portal and used a Cosmos Emerald, an emerald created by Ultra Stuffwell, to power it.

Later, Dr. Eggman came into possession of another emerald, and was told by his alter-dimensional self, Eggman Nega, that the Nega Emerald, the opposite of the Master Emerald, was shattered and in three pieces in his dimension. Eggman located each piece one by one, but Eggman Nega then revealed it was in reality an emerald he designed to be used by his new assistant, Imara. However, the Nega Emerald was destroyed, and the emerald Dr. Eggman had previously was given to Glerk.

Properties

The Chaos Emeralds have many known properties. They have been used to power machines, weapons (mostly superweapons), and more, including the Citadel of Ultima and Space Colony ARK's Eclipse Cannon. Sonic and Shadow the Hedgehog have used them to gain super forms, while Slike F. Elion has used them to gain a dark form. The Chaos Creature can also use them to upgrade to a new form, with each emerald upgrading it. There may be even more possibilities with them. There have also been imitation emeralds created, some with powers similar to the real emeralds, some that are only lookalikes, and one that was filled with nothing but dark energy.
