		+	Private funeral services were held today, Monday, for Charles E. Chandler, 84, former councilman and mayor of Springfield who died [[May 4]] at a local nursing home.

		+	Mr. Chandler was born on October 18, 1877 in Delta, Iowa and had been a resident of this area since [[1923]]. He was preceeded in death in [[1959]] by his wife, Stella Jane.

		+	In February of [[1936]] Mr Chandler was appointed to the Springfield Council to serve the unexpired term of [[Bartholomew, Phil|Phil Bartholomew]] who resigned. He was then elected mayor and served in that position from January of 1941 until December of 1944. He was also the former owner and managed the Delta Lumber in Springfield.

Charles Chandler.

Private funeral services were held today, Monday, for Charles E. Chandler, 84, former councilman and mayor of Springfield who died May 4 at a local nursing home.

Mr. Chandler was born on October 18, 1877 in Delta, Iowa and had been a resident of this area since 1923. He was preceeded in death in 1959 by his wife, Stella Jane.

In February of 1936 Mr Chandler was appointed to the Springfield Council to serve the unexpired term of Phil Bartholomew who resigned. He was then elected mayor and served in that position from January of 1941 until December of 1944. He was also the former owner and managed the Delta Lumber in Springfield.
