Since the inception of SiF, the Extended Railway Series has been seen as the pinnacle of Thomas Fan Fiction on the forum. Notes
- Slots 95-99 are yet to be filled as after the Hyperboards incarnation of Sodor Island Forums crashed, the ERS underwent a reshuffle and volumes deemed of not sufficient standard to stay in the library were removed. As new volumes are accepted into the library, these slots will be filled, and counting will resume from 103 onwards.
- Volumes 100 and 101 were the result of a 'War Of Words', with teams comprising four members writing a volume to compete for the honoured slot of 100. Another volume from this contest was The Fat Controller's Dilemma, which eventually took the spot of Volume 99.
- Fan-made characters introduced in these ERS books include Evan, Edwin Richard, Sodor Castle, Brad, Lucky, Eagle, Hunter, Roger, Scott, Quinten, Alex, Mary, Kaiser, Warrior, Norman, Betty, Coco, Artimis, Renee, Dennis, Rod, Susan, Hero, Stephen, Peckett, 0794, Marvin, Coral, Henry 2, Tina, and Two-Cab.
- Some of the fan-made villians in the ERS books include Brutus, Briar, Chopper, Vermat, The Barge, Shane, Nigel, Rocky, Arcelia, and the Troublesome Mountain Coach.
- Characters like Jinty, Pug, Pippa & Emma have returned to the Island in the ERS, of which Jinty, Pippa & Emma stay permanently.
- In the ERS volume 'Narrow-Gauge Problems' Cora retires and is turned into a light green club house after being badly damaged in an accident.
- In the ERS volume 'Duck, Oliver & the Little Western' George gets sent to work in the scrapyards permanently after helping trying to close down the said Branch Line. he is replace by Dennis the diesel roller- who has proved to be quite friendly.
