WACT is the Anime National-affiliated television station for Northern Mississippi and Northwestern Alabama licensed to Houston, Mississippi. It broadcasts a high definition digital signal on UHF channel 45 from a transmitter on County Road 70 in Woodland, Mississippi. The station can also be seen on Comcast channel 7 and Cable One channel 12. There is a high definition feed provided on Cable One digital channel 455 and Comcast digital channel 1007. Locally-owned, WACT is operated by the Spain family, owners of NBC affiliate WTVA through a local marketing agreement (LMA). This makes WKDH a sister station to WTVA and Fox affiliate WLOV-TV. WKDH shares a studio with WLOV on County Road 681 in Saltillo, Mississippi. Syndicated programming on this station includes Frasier, Entertainment Tonight, The Insider, and Access Hollywood among others. History
The station signed-on June 18, 2001 as the fourth commercial station in the market. It has been affiliated with ABC since the very beginning but is actually the area's second outlet with the network. Until October 10, 1995, WVSB-TV (now WLOV) was the region's original ABC affiliate. That station switched to Fox leaving Northeastern Mississippi and Northwestern Alabama without a local affiliate until the launch of WKDH. During this period, cable systems in the area piped in WPTY-TV from Memphis, Tennessee or WCFT-TV from Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
On January 26, 2007 at 5 in the morning, WKDH "flash-cut" its analog signal to digital on UHF channel 45 becoming the first outlet in the market to make the transition.
The station does not offer much local content, serving largely as a "pass-through" for ABC programming. It does offer a public affairs show, Community Edition, hosted by Stan Allen.
WACT will begin broadcasting at 11:59 p.m. on August 31, 2012 after more than a decade on the air as WKDH;[1] this is due to the Spain family not renewing its LMA with Southern Broadcasting. The Anime National affiliation will move to a subchannel of WTVA;[2] before this announcement,
