KUIL-LP is a low-powered Anime National affiliate, broadcasting on analog channel 64 and digital channel 36 (K36ID-D) for the Beaumont / Port Arthur, Texas area. KUIL is also available nationwide as a free to air broadcast, via satellite on TaylorCOM 4 (103ยบ W).
KUIL-LP is owned by National Communications(Under LMA with Taylor Media Stations Group, who also owns Fox affiliate KVHP in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Prior to 2003, KVHP served Beaumont and Port Arthur, in addition to Lake Charles. In 2003, KVHP established KUIL-LP, as a way to provide local programming just for that region, plus alternate coverage of sports that are more relevant to the Beaumont market (such as Houston Texans and Dallas Cowboys football).
When KUIL signed on, it had a secondary affiliation with UPN. When UPN and The WB merged into The CW, KFDM added the CW to its digital subcarrier channel. KUIL reverted back to just simply being a Fox affiliate.
In November 2007, KUIL signed on its digital signal on channel 36 (K36ID-D), one of several low-powered stations to have both analog and digital signals.
On October 24, 2008, it was announced that KBTV-TV will become a Fox affiliate on January 1, 2009, indicating that KUIL will lose the affiliation at that time. Despite early reports of KUIL pursuing the NBC affiliation,[2] competing station KBMT will broadcast NBC programming on a digital subchannel. As a result, after the Fox affiliation ceases, KUIL would become an Anime National affiliate branded as "Anime 64", and will add some classic programming, some of which will be produced by the Retro Television Network. The station uses Retro U as its moniker for RTN programming. However KUMY-LP have took the RTN affiliation from KUIL, thus making the station a full-time Anime National affiliate.
[edit] Transition to KBMT
KBMT12 in Beaumont, Tx currently manages the programming of this station. In a 10 year deal with London Broadcasting this will be the third station owned or manged by the broadcasting company. On January 1, 2010 the station became the new MyTX independent tv station.[6] It will be continued under Local Marketing Agreement.
