The Shadows of Nor'Lesha

From Yb Timeline

The Shadows of Nor'Lesha was Sub's first story that was successfully completed in the Yoshi Bodyguards. It was one of the few stories that was not a continuation of other stories, did not contain any reoccurring characters (barring the YBs themselves), and was not continued in other stories. It was the first attempt at an open story, with a sandbox environment that allowed for the users to do whatever they wanted, having an impact on how the story flowed.

Story

Prologue: Space Ruin

The story began with a normal day in the Yoshi Bodyguard Headquarters. After the usual random oddness, the base's primary communication's terminal was activated. The Prime Minister of the Yoshi Islands had just gotten word from the Galactic Federation that a ruined Chozo space hulk was drifting into Star World space, and was harboring terrorists. Due to boundary issues, the Federation could not move a force in to intervene, and the SWDF were occupied with other matters. So the Yoshi Bodyguards were sent in.

At first, the mission was going smoothly. The Yoshi Bodyguards had landed without any issue. Then, detonation charges destroyed their ships. After a fight with terrorists, they found a terminal room, where Bob noticed strange binary writing, stating "Bring the Brown One to the core." He ignored it, and the group continued on and fought the terrorist leader in a hijacked Federation mech suit. After it's defeat, however, a power surge ran through the space hulk, activating it. Then, a mysetrious planet formed near the hulk, and the platform began to plummet toward it.

The Yoshi Bodyguards attempted to take the terrorist ships, but were all separated into three groups, two getting into ships and being caught in the slipstream of the crashing hulk, another running back into the core of the hulk and going down with it.

NOTE: The following are three different fronts that occurred at the same time.

Front 1: The Sealed Crypts

The group that stayed behind managed to hide in the ruin of the space hulk, and survived the crash. This group, lead by Sub, landed in a strange Chozo ruin. The others, seeing nothing better to do, examined their surroundings. Fireflower found a temple, and took the torches surrounding a shrine. The shrine activated several Chozo statues, which he evaded, going back to the group.

Meanwhile, the group was examining a strange wall, which was lined with a puzzle. After a while needless of guessing, Sub broke the seal, and found a strange chamber lined with containment cells. The group stared in awe at the cells, just before they began to activate. From the cells came strange hybrids of Metroids and X Parasites, which attacked the Yoshi Bodyguards in number. The Yoshi Bodyguards escaped, running out into cover in the crashed space hulk, where they fought the terrorist mecha, this time infested with the Hybrid. The Yoshi Bodyguards defeated it, but then Hybrids began to swarm around then. Suddenly the group was enveloped in a light and vanished.

Front 2: The Prison Planet

The second group of Yoshi Bodyguards were lead by Scorch and managed to take a terrorist vessel from the Chozo ruin. The vessel was caught in the slipstream of the crashing ruin, and landed in a flat field. The group was targeted by strange glowing lights, which, as soon as one of the members swatted one away, shocked them all and knocked them out.

When they woke up, the Yoshi Bodyguards were in a prison, though the stone door to their cell was not locked. They attempted to sneak out, but were caught when Blizzard began screaming at the top of his lungs. After a fight with the sentry, the Yoshi Bodyguards hid in a control room, which managed to link with their PSes. However, a Sphere Turret hit the systems, and after destroying the turret, Scorch managed to reroute power from his suit into the remaining systems, allowing for one communication. The group settled on contacting the Galactic Federation. Just then, they noticed the gigantic swarm of strange creatures on the horizon, numbering in the billions. Then they were enveloped in a light and vanished.

Front 3: Into the Core

The third group was led by Bob, and managed to land their captured aircraft near a large trench filled with metal tunnels that spanned the divide. Seeing no other landmarks for miles around, the Yoshi Bodyguards repelled into one of the Metal tunnels, and went into a large system of ruins built into the planet.

The group faced several trials, first being a group of Chozo Ghosts, which they defeated when they turned their energy in on their enemies. The second was when the room went black, and a psychic presence warned them that one of their own was a fake. After much deliberation, Danny found out that Top was the fake, and the false image turned into a Chozo Ghost, when they defeated. When they got further in, they found a strange power device, but the door on the other side was unlocked. Bob, however, remembered the strange writing in the Space Ruin, and put Top in the center of the system, powering up the systems around it. In the next room, a strange Chozo tomb lay before them, where another, stronger Chozo Ghost attacked. Just as he was about to be defeated, he was hit by the defensive systems, returning him to his physical form, which, he revealed, was a Chozo Shaper who had help create the Metroid parasite. He had taken his work and fused the Metroid with the prey they were meant to kill, the X-Parasite. He enveloped them in a strange light, teleporting them away for one final battle.

Ending: Hybrid Hell

The ending started when the Shaper teleported all three groups of the Yoshi Bodyguards to a pocket dimension on the planet. At first, the battle was going in the Yoshi Bodyguard's favor, but he soon teleported in his Metroid/X hybrids, fusing himself with them. The creature attacked now extreamly powerful. However, after a while, several Chozo Wardens teleported in, damaging the Shaper enough for the Yoshi Bodyguards to finish him.

The Wardens thanked the Yoshi Bodyguards telling them they were on a prison planet. In desperation, they were to destroy the planet to end the hybrid, and told them of the Galactic Federation Marines that had come to evacuate them. They were then teleported to a scene of chaos, where massive towers of biotic mass were consuming the planet. The Yoshi Bodyguards made a rush into the Federation transport, and managed to get away as the planet exploded. No hybrid survived the blast.

The Yoshi Bodyguards were thanked by the Marines, who informed them that the terrorist organization they were sent to destroy, the Sons of Cyclosis, were on the run due to lack of supplies they were intended to get from the Space Hulk. It was estimated that five years of warfare had been prevented due to the Yoshi Bodyguard's actions. The Federation Marines dropped the Yoshi Bodyguards off on Star World, and all was at peace.

Unrevealed Information

Due to the story being open, a lot of information was not revealed in the main plot.

First, the overuse of Top was intended. In a ruin on the first front, if they had explored it more, a statue to Top would have been found, with an inscription reading, "The most unlikely of the heroes shall expel the darkness. The Brown One shall bring peace." This was intended as a hint on who to bring to the core on Front 3, but, unknowingly, linked to the prophecy in King Top and the entire Dark Perfotation Saga.

Second, the use for Nor'Lesha was to be a prison planet for Chozo prisoners who have done the most hanous of crimes. This was to be shown in Space Pirate corpses found in cells on Front 2, as well as dead Chozo in other cells.

Also, it was possible that the Yoshi Bodyguards did not get off the planet in time. In this case, they would have blanked out, with a Chozo voice muttering, "It is a pity. It really is a pity..." The Yoshi Bodyguards would have been woke up back at the headquarters, with no recollection of what happened.

Several others were intended, unfortunately, Sub forgot about them. There was a document listing all affected differences in the plot, but that was lost with his old computer.

Trivia

  • The terrorist organization in the beginning was referenced in Metroid Prime Hunters, being the rebellious homeworld of Sylux, a bounty hunter also seen in Space Pirate Panic!
  • The entire world of Nor'Lesha was mapped in a Microsoft Word document, one which Sub had lost.
  • The original concept was a linear story called "Shatterpoint." However, this concept was almost completely based off of the Halo series of games, and no one liked it. However, Sub then scrapped the idea, leaving only the Chozo Space ruin as a constant between the two.
  • Sub had a name for the Chozo shaper, but everyone forgot his name, much like this story in general.

Connection to Other Stories

  • Nor'Lesha was one of the few stories that had a set beginning and ending, and was not continued or based off of any other story.
  • The story was the first appearance of the Galactic Federation as a major organization and ally of Star World.
  • Despite what the Federation Marine said at the end, the Sons of Cyclosis's continuing rebellion would occasionally be referenced in future stories years afterward.
