The Shadow Sirens

The Shadow Sirens are a group of Shadow Creatures (formerly 3) and Doopliss (more or less). Their first appearance was in Paper mario: The Thousand Year Door. They later returned in The Shadows Cometh (Or Something Lousy Like That), and were reduced to just Beldam and Marilyn in Unity of the Shadows. It's unknown if Beldam still refers to her and Marilyn as The Shadow Sirens or not now that they aren't doing evilness now.

Beldam
Beldam appears to be the self-proclaimed leader of the Shadow Sirens in that she is always bossing everyone around. She mean, crabby, cruel, nasty, and just plain not nice. However, in reality, she did this to make herself feel better, as she knew that she was old, ugly, and rather weak. She finally renounced her evil ways with help from Vivian, although despite this, she's still somewhat bossy, egocentric and somewhat mean.
Marilyn
Marilyn is the strongest of the Shadow Sirens; however, she's also the silentest one. Most of her speech involves grunts such as "guh". She doesn't seem to really be all that bad, but she is a bit subservient, mostly just following Beldam's orders, making her a follower, not a leader. She was the only Shadow Siren to stay with Beldam the whole time.
Vivian
If Beldam is the brains and Marilyn is the brawn, Vivian is the beauty. She has an inferiority complex, which is largely the fault of Beldam's due to her mistreatment of Vivian. Beldam would often punish Vivian for trivial things and things that were Beldam's fault in the first place; apparently, another reason Beldam treated Vivian badly was that she was the actual hier to the Shadow Monarchy, which meant Beldam would one day be her inferior. Because of this mistreatment, however, Vivian ended up leaving the Shadow Sirens to help Mario. She still cared for her sisters well, even when she had to battle them, and knew that deep down Beldam cared for her. It was revealed in The Shadows Cometh (Or Something Lousy Like That) that she had known a high-ranking Shadow Creature named Noshum back before she came to Star World; in addition, they had secretly loved each other. She eventually married Noshum in The Unity of the Shadows (after being forcefully married to the Shadow Prince).
Doopliss
Doopliss joined the Shadow Sirens after Vivian left; Beldam treated Doopliss just as badly as Vivian, calling him a freak-sheet and mistreating him. Despite this, his abilities became quite useful to the Shadow Sirens. He temporarily became an actor, but went back with the Shadow Sirens after the Shadow Monarchy attacked Star World. He continued to help them out until he finally decided to quite thanks to The Yoshi Bodyguards.
The Shadow Prince
While not an official member of the Shadow Sirens, the Shadow Prince was apparently a royal Shadow Creature who aided the Shadow Sirens in attempting to return the Shadow Monarchy to its former glory. While he acted pompous, graceful, and skilled in both swordplay and wind magic, he was, in fact, exceedingly weak. He vowed revenge on Noshum after being defeated, but is apparently stuck in a janitor job now.
Ichy
Ichy was a feeble Shadow Creature who, while also not technically in the Shadow Sirens, helped them force Vivian to marry the Shadow Prince by hypnotizing her in Unity of the Shadows. He later returned as an antagonist, but wasn't very good at it. He apparently likes Quiz Shows.
History
Entering Star World
Over a thousand years ago, the Shadow Queen descended into the land with a shadow army, including Beldam, Marilyn and Vivian. They came to Star World in order to conquer it; although the Shadow Queen did this fairly easily, four heroes stepped up and vanquished her and most of her shadow army, locking her away in a coffin, after which they separated the seven Crystal Stars the Shadow Queen had used to rule the land with. The Shadow Sirens, however, began to spread rumors of a legendary treasure deep below, trying to get someone to believe it and inadvertedly ressurect the Shadow Queen...
Ressurecting the Shadow Queen
That was when The Secret Society of the X-Nauts came in. The Shadow Sirens learned of Grodus' desire to rule the world, and so they went to tell him about the demon, but tossed in some fake information too, telling him that whoever ressurected the Shadow Queen would be able to control her. Thus, Grodus began his search for the Crystal Stars. They eventually saw Princess Peach in Roguepot with the magical map that led to the stars, and so she was kidnapped; unfortunately for them, not before she sent the map off to Mario.
Now that Mario had the map, the X-Nauts began double-time in looking for the Crystal Star in Boggly Woods. They had found one in Rogueport, but it was only one. The Shadow Sirens went to Boggly Woods to try and stop Mario, but Mario laid a beating on the three of them. Later, they tried once more at Twilight Town (by now Mario had 3 stars). Unfortunately, Beldam lost the Superbombomb they had, and blamed it on Vivian; she had Vivian look for it while she and Marilyn took some time off. This was a mistake, as Mario showed up (having had his body stolen by Doopliss) and helped Vivian out; Vivian ended up helping Mario out, and left the Shadow Sirens. While Beldam and Marilyn looked for her, Doopliss showed up (having just been defeated by Mario and Vivian). Beldam ended up recruiting him afterwards.
With Doopliss' power, he impersonated famed actor Zip Toad and attempted to destroy the train to Poshely Heights Mario was on. This plan failed, so Beldam tried to slow Mario down using a Smorg Creature. It actually worked, but the Shadow Sirens ended up taking a fake Crystal Star instead of the real one, after which Mario had 6 stars and the X-Nauts had but one. Thus, they had a change of plans; Grodus and the Shadow Sirens waited in Rogueport Sewers for Mario to take the seventh star, then Doopliss impersonated Professor Frankly and sent Mario off into the Thousand Year Door. Mario ended up opening the way to the Shadow Queen, and the Shadow Sirens tried to slow him down. They didn't do a very good job, though; however, when the Shadow Queen was ressurected finally, she blasted Grodus to bits and the Shadow Sirens showed up, revealing to have been playing the X-Nauts for saps. The Shadow Queen used Peach as her new body, but thanks to the Crystal Stars, Mario and his friends were able to defeat the Shadow Queen, and the Shadow Sirens appeared to be no more...
Atlantis
With the Shadow Queen defeated, Beldam stopped doing evil and was nicer to Vivian, and Doopliss became an actor on stage. But this would not last, for during the Dark Ages, the Yoshi Bodyguards HQ was destroyed; the Crystal Stars, which had been held inside, were also destroyed as well, which broke the seal to the Shadow Dimension the four heroes from old had put on it. This seal was located in none other than Atlantis, which was not an ancient city, but a battleship. Thus, the Shadow Sirens returned to the Shadow Dimension and told the Shadow King what had happened to Vivian. Viewing her as a traitor, the Shadow King had them find Vivian, but when they did, the YB and Noshum (who switched sides because Vivian did) defeated them. Once the YB defeated the Shadow King soon after, the Shadow Monarchy came to an end, but this time the Shadow Sirens did not give up.
Trio to Duo
The Shadow Sirens every so often did a random act of evil, but tried to ressurect the Shadow Queen at one point using most of the YB members as sacrifices. When the YB convinced Doopliss to leave the Shadow Sirens, though, their plan failed, and it went from three to two members. Because of that, Beldam and Marilyn went back to the Shadow Dimension to try and find any Shadow Creatures still loyal to the Shadow Monarchy. They found a Shadow Creature who claimed to be royalty, or something like that, and they began their plan for Unity of the Shadows.
Renouncement
The Shadow Sirens kidnapped Vivian and other party guests at Vivian and Noshum's wedding, and used Ichy to hypnotize Vivian into marryin the Shadow Prince, thus releasing the Shadow Ztar. Beldam planned to have Vivian absorb it, then give her the power, but it was shattered by Subsourian. Also at this time, Beldam hired a kirby and a yoshi named Frob and Bread, but fired them soon after so they wouldn't have to be paid. The Shadow Sirens attempted to collect the shattered Crystal Ztar shards, but when the heroes began collecting them instead, Beldam allowed them to save a Vivian who was still secretly hypnotized to absorb the Crystal Ztar one it reformed. Unfortunately, she didn't plan on Noshum absorbing it with her, and was unable to get any power from it. The heroes were able to defeat the evilified Noshum and Vivian, however, ruining Beldam's plan once and for all.
Beldam tried one more time to ruin Noshum and Vivian's wedding by turning the wedding guests into pigs (just like Doopliss did several years prior), but this plan was quickly put to an end. Beldam then revealed her reasons for always mistreating Vivian, and Vivian forgave her; reluctantly, Noshum did as well, and Beldam finally agreed once and for all to end her evil practices. Thus, the Shadow Sirens were no more.
Trivia
- Vivian is not a male. >{ I mean, no one even says anything about what the catch card says in the Japanese version of SPM! What DOES it say!? For that matter, SHE FREAKING KNOWS A MOVE CALLED INFATUATE (Infatuate Kiss in JP). In fact, I have a theory on the whole thing, too. Also Francis has a Vivian plush doll.
