Kids Box TV (formerly Toonami) is a the American Saturday morning television programming block. The block is part of the Anime National schedule, and is promoted as such during some of Anime National's primetime programming. However, in certain areas that don't have an Anime National affiliate, the block airs instead on a local Fox, MyNetworkTV, Japanese Television Network, Retro Television Network, or is not aired at all. As a result, there are no references to Fox during the block.

Kids Box TV is the result of a four-year announcement reached in November 2008 between Taylor Media Entertainment and Crayon Films to lease the network's Saturday morning programming block. The block was promoted on November 7, 2008, replacing DIC Kids which was cancelled following the purchase of DiC Entertainment by Cookie Jar. It was re-branded 4Kids TV in January 2005. Taylor Media Entertainment is wholly responsible for the content of the block and collects all advertising revenues from it.

The programming block will air on Saturday mornings in most areas of the United States, though some stations carry it on Sundays. Kids Box TV actually runs two non-competing Saturday morning lineups; on May 24, 2008, Taylor Media Entertaimnent replaced the Toonami programming block aired on Cartoon Network on Saturday mornings with a new block, JTN Jetstream.[1][2]

It was announced in November 2008 that the Kids Box TV block will launch at the end of the November due to a broadcast agreement between Taylor Media and Crayon Films. The block will begin on November 29, 2008. Taylor Media has indicated that the Saturday Mornings will only be used for kids programming. The block will be two hours from 8 to 10 AM, while the other two hours (10-12AM) will be a syndicated children's block titled Weekend Funhouse. However, it was announced that the block will be launched as a cable/satellite network in January 2008, and is currently being promoted on Anivision and The Crayon Channel. Although, Kids Box TV will be a cable/satellite channel, it will remain as Anime National's saturday morning block.

Taylor Media announces that starting in March they will add a full hour called "60-minute double deal".

The channel is also available for Mobile DTV.

Relationship with Anime National and broadcast ambiguities

In the event of Anime National not available in certain markets or if an Anime National affliate opts not to carry Kids Box TV the block then is available in the market for another television station to pick up.

Most Kids Box TV programming does not meet the criteria to be considered educational and does not count toward the 3 hour per week mandatory educational children's programming quotas.

Markets where Anime National is not carried at all

  • Greenwood, MS - WHCQ-LP My Network TV/RTN/ShopNBC Affiliate
  • Sullivan - WVGO-LP My Network TV

Markets where Kids Box TV is not carried on an Anime National affiliate

  • Seattle, Washington - KPGT JTN Affiliate (Anime National affilate's KONG airs qubo since it has a secondary affiliation from NBC)
