The station signed on in 1998 and was originally owned by the Osteen Family of Lakewood Church. The station aired limited religious programming despite this previous ownership.

Since 2007 they are the official channel of the Houston Dynamo. In June 2008, the Houston Cougars football team announced a deal with ISP Sports to exclusively broadcast Cougar Gameday on KTBU.[1]
