The World Tag Team Championship was a professional wrestling World Tag Team championship in International Wrestling Entertainment (IWE). It was unified with the IWE Tag Team Championship, which IWE recognized as the "Unified IWE Tag Team Championship". On August 16, 2010 the World Tag Team Championship was decommissioned in favor of continuing the lineage of the IWE Tag Team Championship.

:This article is about holders of IWE's tag team title established in 2002 and renamed in 2024. For holders of the previous title of the same name, see List of World Tag Team Champions (IWE, 1971–2010). For IWE's list of it's other Tag Team title holders that is currently defended on SmackDown, see List of IWE Tag Team Champions.

The World Tag Team Championship is a professional wrestling World Tag Team Championship contested in IWE. The IWE Tag Team Championship was IWE's third World Tag Team Title, and seventh tag team title overall introduced in 2002. After IWE bought the promotions of Xtreme Championship Wrestling (XCW) and World Championship Wrestling (WCW), and unified the WCW Tag Team Championship into its own title at Survivor Series 2001, it split its roster into two brands, Raw and SmackDown, in a brand extension. As a result of this, IWE's original World Tag Team Championship was designated exclusive to the Raw brand, leaving SmackDown without a tag team championship. Soon afterward, the IWE Tag Team Championship was introduced onto the SmackDown brand.

Some reigns were held by champions using a ring name, while others used their real name. There have been a total of 113 recognized teams and 164 recognized individual champions, who have had a combined 176 official reigns. The first champions were Luke Graham and Tarzan Tyler and the final champions were The Heart Dynasty (David Heart Aldrich and Tyson Kidd).
+
In 2007, after the initiation of the XCW brand, IWE announced that the title would be shared between both brands, thus inter-brand matches could take place for the title. In 2009, the title was unified with the World Tag Team Championship by Carlito and Primo at WrestleMania XXV and became recognized as the "Unified IWE Tag Team Championship" until August 2010 when the World Tag Team Championship was decommissioned in favor of continuing the lineage of the IWE Tag Team Championship. In 2016, IWE reintroduced its brand extension and the championship became exclusive to Raw. It was subsequently renamed to Raw Tag Team Championship after SmackDown introduced its SmackDown Tag Team Championship.
-
The team with the most reigns is The Dudley Boyz (Bubba Ray and D-Von) with eight. Edge has the most individual reigns with twelve. Two tag teams have held the titles for 365 or more days: Demolition, whose first reign set the record at 478 days and The Valiant Brothers. Demolition is also the team with the longest combined reign at 698 days, while Mr. Fuji has the longest combined reign as an individual at 932 days.
+
The championship is generally contested in professional wrestling matches, in which participants execute scripted finishes rather than contend in direct competition. The inaugural champions were Chris Benoit and Kurt Angle, who won the titles in a tournament final in October 2002, while as of CURRENTMONTHNAME CURRENTYEAR, The current champions are.

Overall, there have been 50 different championship teams, and 75 individual champions with the tag teams of Cesaro and Sheamus, Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel, and MNM (Joey Mercury and Johnny Nitro) holding the most reigns at 3; in addition, Cesaro, Eddie Guerrero, John Morrison, Kofi Kingston, Rey Mysterio, and The Miz hold the most reigns individually at four. The New Day have the longest reign at 483 days, while Dustin Simpson and The Miz have the shortest reign as a team at roughly 15 minutes, due to The Corre invoking their rematch clause immediately after losing the title. René Duprée is the youngest champion at age 20, while Billy Gunn is the oldest champion at age 50.

Current revision as of 19:58, 6 July 2024

This article is about holders of IWE's tag team title established in 2002 and renamed in 2024.

The championship is generally contested in professional wrestling matches, in which participants execute scripted finishes rather than contend in direct competition. The inaugural champions were Chris Benoit and Kurt Angle, who won the titles in a tournament final in October 2002, while as of September 2024, The current champions are.
