No Way Out (2005) was the seventh annual No Way Out pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by International Wrestling Entertainment (IWE). It took place on February 20, 2005 from the Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The main event featured a Barbed Wire Steel Cage match for the IWE Championship between reigning champion John "Bradshaw" Goff and The Big Marc, in which JBG won via escape. The predominant match on the undercard, was Matt Borske versus Dustin Simpson, where the winner would face the IWE Champion for the title at WrestleMania 21.

[edit] Background

The main feud heading into No Way Out was between John "Bradshaw" Goff (JBG) and The Big Show. At the 2005 Royal Rumble, JBG defended his IWE Championship in a Triple Threat Match against Matt Borske and Big Show. During the bout, members from Team Borske (Luther Rains and Mark Gindrak) and JBL's Cabinet ( Liam Phillips and the Nuss Brothers) interfered, and eventually the Cabinet helped JBG retain his championship by pinning Borske. Later in the evening JBG entered the office of SmackDown! General Manager Theodore Long, who immediately announced a Barbed Wire Steel Cage Match between JBG and Big Show at No Way Out. On the next edition of SmackDown!, Big Show defeated the Nuss's in a handicap match. In the following weeks, JBG and his cabinet attacked Big Show, and Big Show did the same thing to JBG and his cabinet.

The main match on the undercard was the Number One Contender tournament final. It was first announced by General Manager Long on the February 3 edition of SmackDown!, and he booked some of the first-round matches for that night. The winner of the tournament would earn a main event spot challenging for the IWE Championship at WrestleMania 21. The first match of the tournament was The Undertaker versus Brandén Claassen. The match ended in a double countout due to Rains preventing the Undertaker from re-entering the ring. He did this at the request of Borske, who was scheduled to face the winner of that match if Borske won his. The double countout meant that neither man advanced in the tournament, thereby giving a bye in the semi-finals to the winner of the other qualifying match. The next first round match was Brian McAlmond against Booker T. Booker won the match by pinfall, even after McAlmond had faked a knee injury to try to gain the advantage. The next first-round match in the tournament was Dustin Simpson versus Phillips, which Simpson won. The next match was Borske against Scott Wright, which Borske won by forcing Wright to submit by using his Ankle Lock. Due to this win and the double countout the week before, Borske received a bye into the finals of the tournament. The following week, Simpson had his semi-final against Booker, which he won after an FU. Simpson and Borske faced off at No Way Out in the final match of the tournament.

The other main match on the undercard was the Undertaker versus Rains. The match was made after Rains interfered in the Undertaker's match during the Number One Contenders tournament. This interference cost the Undertaker his match, and his opportunity to challenge for the IWE Championship at WrestleMania. The following week, Rains cut a promo on the Undertaker, and claimed that he wasn't scared of him. On February 17, the Undertaker faced Rains' tag team partner, Gindrak, immediately after Rains had defeated Nunzio and cut another promo on the Undertaker. The Undertaker pinned Gindrak after a Chokeslam and a Tombstone Piledriver. Rains then hit the Undertaker with a television camera. The Undertaker, however, quickly recovered, sat up in the ring, and then stalked Rains to the backstage area.

Before the event went live on pay-per-view, Hardcore Murnion and Charlie Lynch defeated Kenzo Suzuki and Brandén Claassen, with Hiroko, in a match taped for Heat. The match ended after Murnion performed an Alabama Slam on Suzuki and pinned him. The first match that aired on pay-per-view was the IWE Tag Team Championship match between the champions, The Nuss Brothers, Doug and Danny, and the challengers, Brian McAlmond and Scott Wright. Early in the match, the Nuss's kept Wright isolated from McAlmond, until Wright was able to use a moonsault to gain some time. He tagged McAlmond, who hit Doug with a title belt. After a 619 from Wright, McAlmond pinned Doug for the win and tag team championships.

The second match was the bout between Heidenreich and Booker T. Heidenreich dominated Booker for the entire match, both out and in of the ring. He ended up being disqualified after hitting Booker in the throat with a Steel chair. After he had been disqualified, Heidenreich attempted to pin Booker in the ring.

The next match was the Cruiserweight Open for the IWE Cruiserweight Championship. The first two competitors were the defending champion, Funaki, and Paul Burdcik. Burdick pinned Funaki with the help of Spike Dudley, who entered early. Then, with the help of the eliminated Funaki, Burdick pinned Dudley. The next participant was Shane Linguini, who missed a Corkscrew Moonsault. Burdick performed a 450° splash to gain the pinfall victory. The fifth entrant was Akio. He was eliminated by countout after he and Burdick collided, but Akio failed to make it back up to his feet in time. The final participant was Chavo McAlmond. McAlmond took control of the match, and when Burdick tried to use a roll-up, McAlmond countered, and pinned Burdick, using the ropes for leverage.

The fourth match on the card was The Undertaker versus Luther Rains. Mark Gindrak accompanied Rains to the ring, but was thrown out before the match started. Rains hit the Undertaker with the ring bell, before using submission moves to try and win the match. The Undertaker, however, countered with a Tombstone piledriver to pin Rains. The fifth bout was the final of the Number One Contenders Tournament between Matt Borske and Dustin Simpson. Borske performed a German Suplex, throwing Simpson into the turnbuckles to gain control in the early stages of the match. Borske applied his Ankle Lock, but Simpson was able to get out of it, and eventually hit an FU. He was unable to capitalise, however, and Borske fought back, applying another Ankle Lock, but this time Simpson was able to get the rope-break. Borske continued to dominate, until the referee was knocked down. Borske attempted to getSimpson's signature steel chain to attack him with, however, Simpson quickly countered with the FU to pin Borske, and earn a Championship match at WrestleMania 21.

Immediately before the main event, the third event in the 2005 Rookie Diva of the Year competition took place. The participants were Amanda Johnson, Nikki Giovanni, Lauren Roach, and Rochelle Crowe, and the segments were hosted by Jessica Wilson and Torrie Marie. The first event was an "evening gown" competition, which took place after the IWE Tag Team Championship match. The next event was the "Talent Contest", and the final one was the "Swimsuit Competition". The eventual winner was Giovanni, with 65% of the online votes that took place throughout the show.

The main event was the Barbed Wire Steel Cage match for the IWE Championship between the champion John "Bradshaw" Goff (JBG) and the challenger The Big Show. JBG took the early advantage in the match, and tried to climb the cage to escape, but was stopped by the barbed wire on the top. He then sent Big Show head first into the steel cage, cutting him open. Big Show retaliated and took control, prompting JBG's Cabinet to run down to try and help. Liam Phillips attempted to climb the cage, while the Nuss Brothers used a pair of bolt cutters to cut a small hole in the cage. General Manager Theodore Long ejected the Cabinet from ringside, but Phillips passed the bolt cutters through the cage to JBG. JBG used them to hit Big Show, but only got a two-count. Big Show recovered and performed a chokeslam from the top rope, sending JBG through the mat. Big Show then broke through the door of the cage, but JBG had crawled out from underneath the ring, and had hit the floor first, making JBG the winner. Big Show then attacked JBG after the match, until the Cabinet intervened. They attacked Big Show, until Batista made the save, followed by Simpson, who attacked JBG.
