Production
Background
Steel Roulette is a gimmick pay-per-view first produced by World Incorporated Wrestling in 2010. It has been produced every year since except in 2016, and is generally held in February; the 2020 event will be the second to not occur in February, but the first to be done in March. The concept of the show is that one or two main event matches are contested inside the Elimination Chamber, either with championships or future opportunities at championships at stake.
Storylines
The show will include matches that result from scripted storylines, where wrestlers portray heroes, villains, or less distinguishable characters in scripted events that build tension and culminate in a wrestling match or series of matches. Results are predetermined by WIW's writers on the Rage and ShowDown brands, while storylines are produced on WIW's weekly television shows, Wednesday Night Rage and Saturday Night ShowDown.
On February 19, a Rage-branded women's Elimination Chamber match was scheduled for the event to determine the number one contender against Ali Richards for the Rage World Women's Championship at SuperBrawl XII. Announced for the match were Beatrice LaGreca, Ryan Newman, Sis Bates, Courtney Hope, Rachele Brooke Smith, and NGW's Michelle Skuletich who reignited her feud with Richards from Soul Survivor by ambushing her on the previous week's episode of Rage. On the March 4 episode of Rage, Brenah McAlmond-Quinn defeated Victoria Lehr by disqualification after interference by Tessa Smith with the win she was added to the match at Steel Roulette. When the match was announced, it was revealed that if Willa Holland chooses to face Richards for the title at SuperBrawl XII, the match would become a triple threat match.
On the February 1 episode of ShowDown, Mad Hanson defeated Corbin Edwards (with Jared Hunt) and Keith Coleman in his corner) to win the WIW International Championship. On the February 29 episode, a contract signing for a title match at Steel Roulette was held. Tired of hearing Hunt's rants, Hanson signed the contract, stating that regardless of who else signed it, he knew he would basically be facing all three at the event. Zayn seized the opportunity and he, Edwards, and Coleman all signed the contract, making it a 3-on-1 handicap match for Hanson's International Championship. However, after Hunt had stated something about how they could do it inside the chamber, Dixie Finnegan came out and announced that instead the title would be defended in an Elimination Chamber match, also adding Kevin Judge, Devin Sullivan, and Seth Smith to the match.
At Super ShowDown Supercard, Charlie Hunnam and Ryan Hurst defeated The Dooms Day (Marc Beltran and Steve Britz) to capture the ShowDown Heavyweight Tag Team Championship. The following Saturday night on ShowDown, it was announced that Hunnam and Hurst would defended the title in a tag team Elimination Chamber match at the event. The challengers announced for the match were The Dooms Day (Marc Beltran and Steve Britz), The Larsons (Steven Larson and Tom Larson), Heavy Load (Kallen Kleinschimdt and Steven Zimmerman), The Nuss Brothers (Zack Nuss and Josh Nuss), and Michael Fonger and Jordan Keltz.
