[edit] Storylines

The show will include matches resulting from scripted storylines, where wrestlers portray heroes, villains, or less distinguishable characters in scripted events that build tension and culminate in a wrestling match or series of matches. Results are predetermined by WIW's writers on the Rage and ShowDown brands, while storylines are produced on WIW's weekly television shows, Wednesday Night Rage and Saturday Night ShowDown.

On the August 15 episode of ShowDown, it was revealed that Ashley Holshue and Jacki Weikart would defend the WIW Women's Tag Team Championship at Retaliation. Their opponents were revealed on the August 26 episode of Raw; the team of Renae Geerlings and Michelle Skuletich.

At SummerBash, |"The Horror Fiend" Jon Rispens defeated Martin McAlmond, Tyler Mane, and Mad Hanson, pinning Hanson to win the WIW Heavyweight Championship for the second time. Following the match, Michael Phelps made his return after a five-month hiatus and viciously attacked The Horror Fiend, McAlmond and Hanson. On the August 26 episode of Rage, it was announced that The Horror Fiend would defend the title against McAlmond and Phelps in a Triple Threat No Holds Barred match at Retaliation.

On the August 26 episode of Rage, WIW World Champion Kevin McAlmond, Kooper McAlmond and WIW United Nations Champion Dustin Simpson were attacked by Brent Huntley, Eric Stevens, The Hurt Mafia, Charlie Lynch and Edwin Rameriz, Jr., Huntley was one of the particpates who lost to Kevin McAlmond at SummerBash, wanted another rematch for the title, however, he was interrupted by Brett Hall who made his Rage debut. Hall, on behalf of Simpson and the McAlmond Cousins, challenged Huntley to a match only for Huntley to decline. The two, however, fought each other later on where Huntley won via disqualification after The McAlmond Cousions attacked him. Huntley now aligned with Charlie Lynch and Edwin Rameriz, Jr. later attacked Kevin and Kooper McAlmond backstage and another brawl broke out in the parking lot where the Hurt Mafia and Simpson got involved again. A rematch between Hall and Huntley as well as a tag team match between The McAlmond Cousins against Lynch and Rameriz, Jr. was subsequently confirmed for Retaliation.
