Of those, 24 were for new houses with an average cost of just over $1000 (Springfield News 1941).
  • The Springfield Creamery, a commercial creamery started in the 1910s, built a new cheese factory in 1941.
  • The need for a new sewage plant was identified in 1941, but not realized until 1955 even though all new developments during this period were required to install sewer lines.
  • In 1941 the city divided into six wards and the city council increased to six members.
