Lesson Objectives (including AFL)
  • Defn: Perimeter of a 2D shape.
  • How to calculate the perimeter of a rectangle.
  • How to calculate the area of a rectangle.
  • How to calculate the perimeter of a composite shape built of rectangles.
  • How to calculate the perimeter of a composite shape built of rectangles.
Success Criteria
  • Everyone able to calculate the area of a rectangle.
Class Management Objectives
  • State my rules, and execute them.
    • We won't go into the classroom until we're quiet. Every minute wasted out here will be added on at the end.

  • 35 copies of Starter worksheets

  • Extension sheet: exercise 15A
Health and Safety
  • No abnormal risks -- today will be just worksheet and whiteboard.
Named Students
Starter
  • Ask them to get out their homework diaries, pencil cases and exercise books.
  • 10 mins on Ex 7A (page 116 from Impact 2R), questions 1 & 2. Write 'Circles Recap'
    • In review of answers, ask them to copy down any definitions they are having problems with.
Development activities (including AFL)
  • Introduce my weekly run in Bushy Park. How long is it? (5km.) Perimeter.
  • Use the bathroom example in 15.1
  • Rectangle formulae:
    • Perimeter = 2 x (length + width)
    • Area = length x width
    • Then as much of p.252 as possible.
