Content Overview—Pythagoras and Trigonometry

From Teach

Pythagoras

  • Use Pythagoras’ theorem in 2D and 3D.
    • Understand, recall and use Pythagoras’ theorem in 2D, then in 3D problems.
    • Understand the language of planes, and recognise the diagonals of cuboid.
    • Calculate the length of a diagonal of a cuboid.

Trigonometry

  • Use the trigonometric ratios and the sine and cosine rules to solve 2D and 3D problems.
    • Use the trigonometric ratios to solve 2D and 3D problems.
    • Understand, recall and use trigonometric relationships in right-angled triangles, and use these to solve problems in 2D and in 3D configurations.
      • Find the angle between a line and a plane (but not the angle between two planes or between two skew lines),
      • Find angles of elevation and angles of depression.
    • Use the sine and cosine rules to solves 2D and 3D problems.
