Assumptions—Pythagoras and Trigonometry

  • To be delivered in the Spring Term.
  • Intended for a Year 10 class taking the Higher Tier Linear GCSE.
  • Topic duration: Eleven 50-minute lessons plus a test spread over three consecutive weeks.
  • Homework is scheduled after every even-numbered lesson; and we assume it is handed in at the next lesson.
  • Board is Edexcel. 2010 specification.
  • There is some applied and practical content which recognises the arrived of Functional Maths.
  • Main textbook:
    • Smith, A. (2006) Higher GCSE Mathematics for Edexcel, Hodder Arnold.
  • We assume that some, if not most, pupils will have already been introduced to Pythagoras' Theorem.
  • But we also assume that no pupils have encountered trigonometry before.
