Evaluation of Fractions 3

From Teach

What Went Well

  • I had some extension work ready for the bright ones.
  • I asked more questions during the initial instruction phase.
  • Many of them appear to have done the homework I set on Monday.
  • Used the electronic whiteboard.
  • Challenged them at the start with some maths nonsense.
  • Set them a homework task on MyMaths (I believe!).

What could be improved

  • Noise level still higher than ideal during subsequent whole-class phases.
  • I was late to the lesson, due to Mr Schofield overrunning by 5 mins.
  • DL caught one lad looking at his mobile during the lesson. I should give them a warning that if I see it again, I will confiscate it. (And give it to his form tutor?)
  • When I said I had set some homework on MyMaths, someone blurted out "Numbskull!", whose significance I didn't fully understand. I should have asked him to stay behind at the end of the lesson.

TO DO

  • My lessons are more important than my observations of others' lessons. I should leave an observed lesson five minutes early if I need to set up my own lesson.
  • Some of the brighter students have done all the primer worksheet and are now on converting recurring decimals to fractions. How will I handle this difference when I cover my final fractions lesson on Monday? The MyMaths homework might be a cunning move to get them up to speed!
  • Mark the work to see how they are progressing.
