The card will feature matches resulting from scripted storylines and have results predetermined by WIW on the Rage and ShowDown brands. Storylines are produced on WIW's weekly television shows, Wednesday Night Raw and Thursday Night ShowDown, and Dynamites Live, the latter of which is cruiserweight exclusive.

On the June 21 episode of Rage, Dustin Simpson proclaimed no matter who the champion was he was the number one contender and the next in line for a shot at the WIW World Championship at SummerBash. Later that night, Simpson lost his match against Cody McDuffie after Mad Hanson returned and cost Simpson the match. At Addicted to Chaos, Hanson defeated Simpson in the first-ever Hell on Eath Ambulance match, but Simpson would attack Hanson injuring him severly, while WIW World Champion Tyler Mane fought International Champion Kevin McAlmond to a double-disqualification when Evolved Revolution attacked the referee, before assaulting both Mane and McAlmond. The following Wednesday night on Rage, Rage General Manager Rex Martin confronted Mane and McAlmond about the outcome of the match and booked both men to face off against each other at SummerBash, this time with both the WIW World and WIW International Championship's on the line. They were interrupted by Simpson, who said that he deserved a match against Mane at SummerBash, but Mane said he didn't deserve it. McDuffie then came out and said to McAlmond and Mane that if he ever had a shot at the WIW World Championship, he'd take advantage of it and win it in his first shot. Martin then scheduled a number one contender's match between Simpson and McDuffie for the following week where the winner would advance to the WIW World Championship and International Championship match at SummerBash, Martin then announced that if Simpson or McDuffie wins the match at SummerBash would be a Two-fall Triple threat match with the first fall being for McAlmond's WIW International Championship and the second fall being for Mane's WIW World Championship, the match between Simpson and McDuffie ended in a no contest, when Eric Stevens attacked both men, this also brough out Matt Borske and the International Champion Kevin McAlmond made the save, only to be attacked by Stevens' Evolved Revolution, Stevens then stole the International Championship, also leaving Rage's main event for SummerBash unclear. However, Immediately after, Rage General Manager Rex Martin said he would see how injured McAlmond is before decided on what to do for SummerBash, he also informed Stevens that if he doesn't return the title on the same show, he wouldn't be part of SummerBach, period. On the July 16 episode of Rage, Rex Martin was about to announce who would face Mane for the WIW World Championship when Stevens interrtuped him, still in possesion of McAlmond's International Championship, Stevens told Martin that he was declaring himself International Champion and therefore he should be the one to face Mane in the title for title match, he was then interrupted by Borske, who was interrupted by Simpson, each man giving there issue to face off with Mane at SummerBash, McAlmond returned through the crowd and attacked Stevens, but Stevens would escape still in possesion of McAlmond's International Championship, Martin would announced a six-man tag team match for the night's main event, McAlmond would team with Simpson and Borske and face Stevens and his stablemates, Gleason and Tobol, also making the stipulation that if McAlmond, Simpson, Borske or Stevens were pinned they would be out of the title match at SummerBash. Later on in the show; McAlmond, Borske and Simpson defeated Stevens, Gleason and Tobol with Borske pinning Stevens, removing him for the match, McAlmond also got back the International title, Martin then informed McAlmond, Borske and Simpson would be facing Mane at SummerBash with both the International Championship and WIW World Championship on the line in a Two-Fall Double Title Fatal 4-Way match, but only if they Borske and Simpson could survive the oncoming coming weeks on Rage leading up to the PPV, because they would all be in singles match aginst members of Evolved Revolution. On the August 2 episode of Rage, McAlmond defeated Gonzalez to retain the WIW International Championship, on the same show Borske defeated Jacob George and Simpson defeated Ryan Gleason to remain the match. The following week on Rage, McAlmond teamed with Borske and Simpson to defeat Stevens, George and Downing in a six-man tag team match when Borske pinned George. On the final Rage before SummerBash, Borske and Simpson defeated Gonzalez and Tobol, respectivly to remain the SummerBash fatal four way double title match. Later on, McAlmond defeated Stevens to retain the International Championship after interferences from Jesse Dern, after the match the four men met each other in the ring where a brawl broke out that was separated by security and then the Rage locker room.

On the July 13 episode of ShowDown, ShowDown Commishiner Dixie Finnegan scheduled a fatal five-way elimination match for Battle Scars between Kaila Matteson, Allison Richards, Beatrice LaGreca, Katelyn Whitehead and Somer Cummings. The winner of that match will face Sarah Hicks for the WIW Women's Championship at SummerSlam, which was won by LaGreca. On the August 9 episode of ShowDown, Ms. Money in the Bank Kadee Jones defeated WIW Women's Champion Sarah Hicks in a non-title match. Later backstage, LaGreca confronted Jones and warned her not to interfere with her SummerBash match against Hicks. Jones told Hicks that she didn't care who the champion is at SummerBash, she was going to cash in when she felt it was possible and win the WIW Women's Championship. The following week, Hicks was on commentary for a match between Beatrice and Richards. After the match, Beatrice continued to attack Richards and Hicks came for the save, but Beatrice retreated. Kadee Jones then came out and wished both Hicks and Beatrice luck at SummerSlam, then told them that whoever wins would also lose, pointing at her Money in the Bank briefcase.

At Hardcore Heaven, Brittany Hiatt fought Leah to no contest when Victoria Lehr interfered and attacked both Hiatt and Leah. The following Wednesday on Rage, Leah told Hiatt she wanted a rematch at the World Women's Championship when the time comes around. At Addicted to Chaos, Sari Pasma defeated Brittany Hiatt by count-out, thus Hiatt retained the WIW World Women's Championship. At a WIW live event, Lehr pinned Hiatt in a singles match. The following Wednesday on Rage, Leah teamed up with Pasma and faced Hiatt and Leahr, where Leah pinned Hiatt, and she again pinned her the following week in a singles match. Later that episode, Leah, Pasma and Lehr confronted Rage General Manager Rex Martin about who should be the number one contender for the World Women's Championship, Lehr made her case on pinning Hiatt at a live event, while Leah made her case that she pinned Hiatt two weeks in a row on episode's of Rage, Pasma claimed that she would be champion if Hiatt had not gotten herself intentionally counted out at Addicted to Chaos. Rex Martin decided that the three will face each other the following week where the winner will face Hiatt for the title at SummerBash. The following week, after the match ended in a no contest when Hiatt interfered and aided Lehr in an attack on Leah and Pasma, only for Club of Chaos member Brenah McAlmond-Quinn to chase them away, after all the Women were seperated, Rage General Manager Rex Martin informed Hiatt that since she attacked both Leah and Pasma, causing the match to end in a no contest, she would have to face all four women in a Fatal 5-Way match, including Brenah. On the August 9 episode of Rage, Brenah, Leah and Pasma confronted the WIW World Women's Champion Brittany Hiatt, but were then attacked by Lehr. Later backstage, Rage General Manager Rex Martin confronted Lehr and Hiatt backstage about the attack and told them they would face Brenah, Leah and Pasma in a handicap match, unless they could find a partner next week on Rage. On the final Rage before SummerBash, Hiatt, Lehr and the returning Tessa Smith defeated Brenah, Leah and Pasma, after the match Hiatt attempted to attack them again but was stopped by Smith before being laid out by Brenah and Leah.

At Battle Scars, Craig Sandvig defeated Brent Huntley in a Montana Prison match to retain the WIW Heavyweight Championship with help from The Sandvig Brothers. The following Thursday night on ShowDown, as Sandvig was demanding a new a new opponent for SummerBash, first-ever and former WIW Heavyweight Champion Mark Semmler came out and confronted Sanvig. Semmler told Sandvig that he would challenge him for the title and be the man to beat him and win the title back. However, Charlie Lynch confronted Semmler and told him he deserved the shot at SummerBash. ShowDown General Manager Turf Finnegan confronted all three and told Sandvig that a number one contender's match would take place on the next weeks ShowDown between Semmler, Lynch and told Sandvig that if Huntley wanted to get back into the title picture he could join the match making it a triple threat match, next week on ShowDown, the match ended in a no contest so Finnegan booked for Sandvig to defend against both Semmler and Lynch in a triple threat match at SummerBash. On the final ShowDown before SummerBash, Sandvig was cutting a promo on his match at SummerBash. Semmler and Lynch interrupted Sandvig both saying they were going to take the title from him at SummerBash.

In a rematch the following week on Rage, Tobol defeated Wilkins after interference from Allen. The following night on Dynamites Live, they had another match that Wilkins won, but after the match Tobol attacked Wilkins putting him through a table. The following week on Rage, during a backstage interview with Genevive Anderson, Wilkins said that he wanted another match with Tobol, however, before the match could between Tobol's tag team partner, Ryan Gleason attacked Wilkins backstage, slamming his head into a television monitor. After getting medical attention, Wilkins went to the ring, but was confronted by the Dynamites Champion. Tobol and Gleason then came down and attacked both Wilkins and Allen. The following night on Dynamites Live, Tobol defeated Allen by disqualification. The next week on Rage, a number one contender's match was scheduled between Wilkins and Tobol for the following on Dynamites Live with the winner facing Allen for the Dynamite's Championship at SummerBash. At Battle Scars, Kevin Hunter fought Daniel Mazurek to a double countout, with the double countout, Hunter retained the WIW United Nations Championship. On the following episode of ShowDown, Mazurek confronted Hunter wanting a rematch for the championship, but he was interrupted by the returning Jax Teller and the The Sons, Teller wanted a rematch at the championship that he had lost in 2016, Hunter agreed to give both men a championship match. ShowDown General Manager, Turf Finnegan decided that the match would take place later that night and that both Mazurek and Teller would get the same shot in a triple threat match, where Hunter pinned Teller to retain the title. After the match, Mazurek complained about being cheated out of the title on two seperate ocations and wanted a rematch for the following week. During the rematch that episode, Mazurek attacked the referee, but lost even though both shoulders were not on the mat. A frustrated Mazurek cofronted Dixie Finnegan and ShowDown General Manager Turf Finnegan and demanded yet another rematch, but with a competent referee. A brawl eventually broke out between Mazurek and Hunter, Turf attempted to break the brawl up but was accidentally hit by Hunter. The following week, Hunter called out Turf to apologize, but Turf said there was not need to. Hunter then asked Tuf if he was going to use that against him to screw him at SummberBash. Turf said no, but that if Hunter lays a hand on him during the match, he would fight back, unlike normal referees. Mazurek came out and said that he liked that because that meant that Hunter could not get himself intentionally disqualification. He then offered a hand shake to Turf, who refused and said that Mazurek should shake Hunter's hand. A physical confrontation broke out between Mazurek and Hunter that Turf tried to stop, but it ended with Mazurek accidentally kicking Turf.

On the August 3 episode of ShowDown, Jeffrey Mahana returned to WIW after being drafted to the ShowDown roster issuing a SummerBash "Open Challenge" to any wrestler on the ShowDown roster. The following week, The Larsons proclaimed they would reclaim the titles form the Doomsday, and a rematch was schduled between the two teams for the Heavyweight Tag Team Championship at SummerBash. The following week, after The Larsons defeated Anthony Zigler and Shane Erving, Beltran caused a distraction allowing Britz and Brandon to attack the Larsons from behind, and put Tom Larson through a table. On the final ShowDown before SummerBash, ShowDown Commishiner Dixie Finnegan con fronted that the Larsons would be facing Beltran and Brandon at SummberBash with Britz in their corner.
