History

With the reintroduction of the brand extension, a draft took place on the July 22, 2016 ShowDown and WIW World Champion Kevin McAlmond was drafted to Rage. At Justice for Brawl on July 24, McAlmond succesfully defended the title in a Triple threat match against fellow Rage draftee, Matt Borske and ShowDown draftee, Chris LaGreca. When McAlmond retained the title, ShowDown was left without a world title. Subsequently, ShowDown commissioner Dixie Finnegan and ShowDown general manager Turf Finnegan created a new championship, the WIW Heavyweight Championship, the following Friday on ShowDown to serve as the brand's top championship.

the inaugural champion was crowned at SummerBash on August 21, 2016 in a tournament final singles match. The tournament began on the July 29, 2016 episode of ShowDown. At SummerBash, Mark Semmler defeated Kevin Hunter to become the inaugural champion.
