Background
Survivor Series will feature professional wrestling matches involving different wrestlers from pre-existing scripted feuds, plots, and storylines that develop on IWE's television programs. Wrestlers portray villains or heroes as they follow a series of events that build tension and culminate into a wrestling match or series of matches.
The main event involved WrestleMania XXVIII opponents Dustin Simpson and The Rock teaming against The Miz and B-Truth, otherwise known as the Awesome Truth. After losing to Alberto Del Rio the previous month at Vengeance due to interference by The Miz and R-Truth, Cena decided to face both of them with Zack Nuss. However, before the match, Nuss was ambushed by the two and Simpson was beaten down by them in the middle of the match. Interim General Manager John Laurinaitis booked Simpson with a match against Miz and Truth at Survivor Series with a partner of his choosing, with Simpson deciding to choose his WrestleMania XXVIII opponent, The Rock, as his partner.
Another main event from Raw involved IWE Champion Alberto Del Rio against Justin Eldridge for the IWE Championship. Three months prior at SummerSlam, Del Rio cashed in his Money in the Bank contract against Justin Eldridge to become IWE Champion. While Eldridge did get his rematch at Hell in a Cell, Simpson was the champion going into the match and it was a Triple Threat match, thus he expressed his desire to have his official one-on-one rematch for the championship, which Del Rio firmly objected to. After locking him into an Anaconda Vise after a match, Del Rio agreed to give Justin Eldridge his title shot at Survivor Series.
The main event from SmackDown involved the World Heavyweight Champion Steven Larson against Big Show for the World Heavyweight Championship. The previous month at Vengeance, Larson attempted to suplex Big Show from the second turnbuckle, only for the ring to collapse, leaving both men unable to continue. Continuing their feud, another match was booked involving both men at Survivor Series with a reinforced ring so that it would not buckle and collapse.
As a tradition to the Survivor Series pay-per-view, there was a 10-man tag-team elimination match, this year involving Team Orton, consisting of Kevin McAlmond, Sheamus, Sin Cara, Peter Damrow, and Jose Serrano, against Team Barrett, consisting of Daniel Gonzalez, Mark Semmler, Nick Kessler, Charlie Wilson and Hunico. Originally, Khristian was a member of Team Gonzalez, but an injury precluded him from participating in the event, thus being replaced by Kessler.
