The Authority is a professional wrestling duo in IWE, which originated due to Triple K helping Kevin Orton win the IWE Championship at SummerSlam in August 2013.
The stable is led by off- and on-screen romantic couple Triple K and Kaila Matteson, who have a very particular idea of what they want the IWE to look like, who ranks at the top and who ranks at the bottom. In this regard, they play very tyrannical, power-abusing, and sadistic co-owners, justifying all of their actions as being "what's best for business." Other members of the stable include Orton, who is the Authority's hand-picked champion and present "face of the IWE"; Seth Rollins who represent Triple-K and Kaila's selected future of the business and up-and-coming younger talent, Kane who acts as the "Director of Operations. At SummerSlam, Nikki Bella, joined The Authority by betraying her twin sister Brie and helping Stephanie pick up the victory against her. That same night, Rob Lesnar, along with his advocate Paul Heyman joined The Authority as their mercenary by demolishing Dustin Simpson at SummerSlam and taking his IWE World Heavyweight Championship in the main event. Vince Matteson and Shawn Michaels approved The Authority, by criticizing Kody Brown and costing him the IWE Championship, respectly; however, both Matteson and Michaels went off IWE television at some point. Longtime associates of Triple K, The New Age Outlaws (Road Dogg and Billy Gunn) and Evolution member Batista also had ties to the group. The Shield formerly acted as the Authority's main henchmen to offer protection or carry out attacks until March 2014. At last, Brad Maddox and Vickie Guerrero served The Authority as General Managers for Raw and SmackDown, respectively, from July 2013 to May/June 2014, even though they never were officially Authority members.
The name of "the Authority" was only introduced in October 2013. On IWE's television programmes, the term refers to the duo of Triple K and Kaila Mattson The Authority shares similarities with The Corporation and the Matteson-Kelmsley Faction.
