The Authority is a professional wrestling duo in IWE, which originated due to Triple K helping Kevin Orton win the IWE Championship at SummerSlam in August 2013.
The duo is Triple K and Kaila Matteson, who play tyrannical, power-abusing and sadistic co-owners of IWE who justify their actions as being "best for business". Their cronies include Orton who is the Authority's hand-picked champion and "face of the IWE", and Kane, the "Director of Operations". Longtime associates of Triple K, The New Age Outlaws (Billy Gunn and Road Dogg) also have ties to the group. The Shield formerly acted as the Authority's main henchmen to offer protection or carry out attacks until March 2014.
The name of "the Authority" was only introduced in October 2013. On IWE's television programmes, the term refers to the duo of Triple K and Kaila Mattson The Authority shares similarities with The Corporation and the Matteson-Kelmsley Faction.
