On the January 19, 2017 episode of ShowDown, commissioner Dixe Finnegan announced that the main event of Steel Roulette would be an Elimination Chamber match for the WIW Heavyweight Championship. At World War on January 29, 2017, Mark Semmler defeated Kevin Hunter to regain the WIW Heavyweight Championship for the second time. The following day, Hunter was added to the match as he was owed a rematch.
