Initially she had rejected the idea as she had no plan to advance into the entertainment industry. A week later the agent visited her university class and tried to invite her into a private audition and she later decided to enter with her friend. In the end she became the only person to be able to pass the audition and officially became part of the company in August 2010.

Just several days later it was reported that Jo has also joined to film for another drama; Jang Ok Jung. Seeing the reaction, Jo made an official announcement to the fans regarding it was a personal choice to take on the additional roles and will be careful over working in the right conditions with enough rest and as a result dropped out of filming.
One month later it was reported that Jo has replaced label mate Ya Chui Ri in the action thriller film The Five and took on the role of the female lead in the sequel Friends 2 to the hit film that was released in 2001. She went to star in three more dramas: Moonlight Drawn by Clouds, Hwarang and Saimdang, all of which received disappointing ratings and poor critical reviews.
