Park Soorira (born December 10, 1993) better known as her stagename Park Seul is a Korean commerical and stage actress. She was scouted at the Clumsy Global Auditions 12'-13' at the Seoul auditions on March 15, 2013 and made first appearance in the musical drama Monstar a month later.

Early Life

Park Seul was born December 10,1993, in Uijeongbu Province, South Korea as Park Soorira; the name is of historical origin of Hangul character and cannot be spelt with Hanja characters. She is the only child to Park Wookhiamin, a government prosecutor and Lim Soo, a freelance artist. Park reportedly discovered her passion for stage when she saw a local production rehearsing in the neighbourhood by accident at eight years of age. She later recalled in an interview that the production was The Sound of Music.

From the onwards, ofte practised in the space of her own room, reiterating scenes from musical films. In 2006 whilst singing 'Sixteen Going on Seventeen' she was overheard by a staff of the local musical organisation and subsequently invited her to audition for a role in The Sound of Music. She eventually surpassed fifty other applicants and went on to appear in her first ever stage production.

Park visited the capital of Korea, Seoul for the first time in order to enrol into her current university. She's currently enrolled in the College of Fine Arts majoring in vocal performance as the top honour student on scholarship for her previous performing experience in musicals.

Career

2013: Audition, training and debut

Park's abilities and celebrity vibe appearance at various campus events attracted a number of agencies approaching ever since she entered university, hoping to sign her under to advance into the entertainment industry. She rejected all the offers and instead signed an contract with musical group company M Line Arts, determined to focus on musicals and plays only. Her teacher at school however recommended her to audition for the Clumsy Global Auditions 12'-13' so she could further establish her skills on acting and not only singing if she made it in to become a trainee. Park hesitated at first and as a result did not apply in time for the first round of Seoul auditions but later applied for the March auditions in 2013 and was offered an exclusive contract on the spot.

Her official training only lasted for a month as in the month of April her official debut in the musical Jack the Ripper alongside idol singer Sung Min of Super Junior as announced. This would be her fourth participation in musicals but her first to headline as one of the main characters. On May 15 it was revealed that Park has signed on to star next to actor Jang Dong Gun in the up-coming 2014 thriller film Crying Man. The production team revealed she participated in all rounds of auditions and was able beat out more than three hundred applications for her character with the director saying. Filming was scheduled to start in September 2013 but Park pulled out of production two weeks earlier, citing "unforseen reasons".

On May 20 officials announced she will star in another musical, The Count of Monte Cristo playing the role of Haydée. It will run from June 7 to August 2. It was later confirmed that she will have a cameo appearance in the drama Heirs. Park began her end-of-the-year activities through the musicals Model Student and December: Unfinished Song both of which drew critical acclaim and her performance were universally praised by critics. During this time she was cast in the film Sea Frog.

2014-2016: Early works in television, musicals and plays

In February 2014 Park appeared in the tvN romance drama series I Need Romance 3 through a cameo appearance. Her second activity was of the year was her first play since 2009 All About My Wife, an adaption of the hit 2012 Korean film of the same name. It ran from early May to the end of June and received positive reviews from critics, later appearing on many year end best plays' list. During this time she also participated in the acclaimed original Korean musical, The Laundry. On July 7 she was cast in the musical WOYZECK and on August 2 she confirmed her second drama role through Nodame Cantabile, a Korean adaption of the hit Japanese manga of the same name. On October 11 it was announced that Park will participate in her third musical production of the year, La Cage. She formally graduated from Seoul Nation University in November.

On February 26, 2015 Park was announced to be a part of the cast for the Korean original play My Life is Beating. She began her first onscreen project and third television role through the comedy musical drama Persevere, Goo Hae-ra which received moderate ratings and reception.

2017-current: Theatre critical acclaims and consolidation

In 2017 Park received universal acclaim from the musical industry for her award winning performances in the original creations Maybe, A Happy Ending and Mr. Mouse. She was awarded Musical Actress of the Year at the annual Korean Entertainment Award where she became the youngest winner at twenty-four years old.

Park was subsequently cast in the musicals The Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder and Jekyll and Hyde.
