The Trial of K.H

From Clumsy Media

The Trial of K.H is the debut studio album by Japanese singer and songwriter Kita Hari. It was released on March 10, 2020, by CM Music. Hari largely co-wrote the album with singer songwriter Kotone Nakamura and production trio Moving Bus. Musically, The Trial of K.H has been characterized as a pop, electropop, avant-pop, and art pop album, though it also features influences from hip hop and industrial music. Its songs explore themes such as modern youth, heartbreak, identity, and mental health, with lyrical sensibilities of humor and horror. Hari said the album was inspired in part by the constant delay of her debut and album release which led to lucid dreaming and night terrors over the years and the idea is visually reflected on the cover photo.

The album was marketed with the release of six singles, four of which were platinum-certified in the Japan – "Bury a Friend", "Wish You Were Gay", "All the Good Girls Go to Hell", and the worldwide hit "Bad Guy". Eilish also embarked on several tours in support of the album, including the When We All Fall Asleep Tour and the Where Do We Go? World Tour. An immediate commercial hit, the album topped record charts in many countries during its first week of release. By August 2020, it had sold more than 1.5 million copies in the Japan and become the year's best-selling album and made Hari the youngest solo act to chart at number one and sell over a million records during the new decade.

The album was also a widespread critical success and one of the year's most acclaimed records, with many reviewers praising its subject matter, songwriting, cohesiveness, and Hari's vocal style. At the 2020 Japan Music Awards, it was nominated for Album of the Year and won Best Pop Vocal Album, while "Bad Guy" won Record of the Year and Song of the Year; and Nakamura also won the award for Producer of the Year, Non-Classical.
