Star World Defensive Forces (SWDF)
From Yb Timeline
"We all have things we left back on Star World, things we all want to see again. But remember, Vash, if we fail here, there will be no Star World to go back to. We are the first and last line that keeps these monsters from our home, and we must be prepared to give our lives to hold it." -Commissar Gebit, The Blackest Days

The Star World Defensive Forces are the main military forces set about to defend the planet and territories of Star World. What it lacks in strength and technological advancements is their numbers, as most of the population is put in service at some point through military drafts (though this does not stop a high volunteer rate). The army itself is headed by the Council of Star World, which deals with all affairs of the planet on a galactic level. The army is known to use commissars to keep the troops in line, although the army continues it's high track record for discipline and moral. Several organizations, such as the Yoshi Bodyguards, Galactic Federation Marine Corps, and Cyber Bell Vanguard, have assisted in the technological advancement of their forces.

History
In the late 1940's (Star World Calendar), the Galactic Federation made contact with the post-modern age Star World. This, along with the arrival of Mexous Sneezier some half-century later, enhanced Star World to the point of faster-than-light, or slipspace, space travel. Star World could now contact with other planets. It was then it became apparent that Star World was, indeed, not alone in the universe, and the only way they would survive as a planet was to unite.
After several invasions, the nations of Star World pooled their military might together to form the SWDF. (The Koopa Kingdom fully joined much later in the timeline) Legendary war heroes and famed generals such as Darrich Koopvlitz were called in to lead the organization. To control it, the nations formed a Council to oversee the SWDF's command. As reliance on other planets grew, the Council grew to become the ruling body on Star World, able now to overrule a national ruler's decisions.
In its early days of colonization, the SWDF were called upon to defend the newly found colonies against Ork and Kriken threats, as well as sustain several riots and uprisings on Star World itself. Though the FOEA provided them with some action, the first time the SWDF saw true war was against the private military contractor Darkcorp, when Star World was directly invaded several times. Eventually, with the aid of the Yoshi Bodyguards, the SWDF destroyed Darkcorp, but soon after, the Confederation of Universal Evil rose to threaten the planet. In those times, the Yoshi Bodyguards became a private military force overshadowing the SWDF, a force with greater technology than the planet's official military and loyal only to the Yoshi Islands. Much debate formed over the Yoshi Bodyguard's ethical use of clones and role in the planet's defense until a single event changed Star World forever.
When the Dark Ages set in, the SWDF were charged with civilian evacuation and colonial lock downs, while the YBs were charged with defeating the demon menace. While the casualties for both the Yoshi Bodyguards and the Star World Defensive Forces were immense, it was the YBs that suffered more in terms of casualties. As the Dark Ages set in, it was not rare to see a stranded SWDF force defending refugee camps located across the planet, while the Yoshi Bodyguards left were nearly wiped out, very few packs of former regiments left to roam the barren hellscape of the planet. When the Titans finally fell at Anubis's hands, the Yoshi Bodyguards had proven themselves loyal to Star World, and were allowed to hold a standing force. But the SWDF were not out of the picture yet.
It was the YBs that primarily saw to the defeat of the COUE (Although the Galactic Federation delivered the killing blow), but when the Metal Wars began to grip the universe, the SWDF had regrown enough to become a major player in Star World's contribution to the war effort. Fleets of SWDF forces fought alongside the YBs in combat, and for a while all was well. Then, on Chronis, the largest battle of the Metal Wars, the YBs and the SWDF had contradicting orders, which pitted them against each other. This caused the death of SWDF hero Lucas Alexander as well as thousands of troops on both sides. After the battle, the YBs were put on trail for their actions, and a verdict was reached. After the Metal Wars would draw to and end, the YB and the SWDF would be merged. This was not only in light of the clone's actions, but also in the recent breakup of the YB core members.
The SWDF stood on the main front of the Metal War, although intrusions by the X-Nauts crippled their warfleets. When the Metal Army invaded Star World, they were prepared, holding against impossible odds to beat back the invaders. Although they sent generals and platoons of soldiers to help in the invasion of Mekkai proper, most of their forces stayed behind to reconstruct the homeland.
After Mekkai fell, the SWDF had very little time to rest. The DPC laid siege to Star World, cutting off the planet not only from the bulk of the Alliance of Worlds fleet en route from Mekkai. The SWDF concentrated on four fronts, Mushroom Kingdom, Dinosaur Island, the Koopa Kingdom, and Beanbean Kingdom. Meanwhile, separate small outposts would defend other cities such as Rougeport and Isle Delfino. The defense worked, and the Dark Perforation Army was pushed from the planet. The SWDF then devised the assault on the Dark Perforation's castle, which, with the help of Pokeworld Defensive Forces, ended in a victory.
Now the SWDF are charged with cleaning up the remaining Metal Army forces. There is an uneasy peace on Star World now, thought there is peace. Only time will tell when the next big threat appears to challenge the SWDF again.
Technology
The SWDF's technology is mostly based off of it's allies. When the Galactic Federation discovered Star World, they quickly adapted to their weaponry. The SWDF, however, always adds their own twist, combining different and radical technologies to make a better product. What makes them even more formidable is their ability to mass produce these technologies. Even after crushing defeats, the SWDF can rebuild their armies with ease and retaliate.
As Star World is constantly invaded, the SWDF has to continue to keep up it's strength. Thus, much of the planet's funding is put into technological research, keeping them ahead of their enemies, with limited success.
With the Cyber Bell Vanguard providing technology and weapons. These factors makes this army a formidable force to be reckoned with.

Interactions with Other Characters and Factions
Galactic Federation Marine Corps
Much like Star World and the Galactic Federation in general, the two armies have a strong alliance, ever since the Federation introduced space travel to Star World in the early 1900s. It is common to see the two working together on the battlefield, as both are leading members of the Alliance of Worlds. Many invasions of Star World have been repelled by aid of the Federation, and many Federation territories have been saved by SWDF intervention.
Yoshi Bodyguards
The relationship between the Yoshi Bodyguards and SWDF has been somewhat speckled. When the YB Clone Army was first introduced, there was some skepticism as to the privatization of the military force. This changed during the Dark Ages, when the Yoshi Bodyguards proved their immense loyalty in the SWDF's eyes. Through battles with the FOEA, COUE, and Metal Army, the two fought side by side. Then on Chronis, contradicting orders lead to the Clone Army attacking the SWDF garrison without a second thought, nearly wiping out the SWDF forces on the planet. The SWDF retaliated, driving the clones off of the planet. This strained the relationship to the point where the Council called for a merger between the two, dissolving the already near-broken core YBs and bringing the clone army under SWDF rule. Ever since Mekkai and the DPC invasion, the two have proven to be formidable allies, though some distrust of the clones still remains.
Metal Army
The Metal Army was a major enemy of the SWDF. Since Star World was partially responsible for their rise to power, they felt obligated to send forces to aid in the battle against the Metal Army. Indeed, many of the SWDF robots and mechs defected to the Metal Army, namely Ultra Stuffwell. When Star World was devastated by their forces, it was the SWDF who counterattacked, finally destroying Mekkai. Still, the SWDF know that Omega is leading the remaining Metal Army forces, and has already beaten the SWDF fleet off once. They are still a major threat to the Star World.
Necrons
Like all living beings, the SWDF are targets for Necron attacks. Very rarely have the SWDF successfully defended from a Necron invasion, and usually end up destroying the planet with nuclear bombardments after the Tomb sect awakens and the planet's surface becomes devoid of life. Only on Wrath of the Titan and Chronis have full Necron awakenings been beaten back, with a Necron God-Artifact being destroyed on Mekkai.
Orks
Orks have been a slight nuance on SWDF shipping routes since the Star World gained the capabilities for space travel. The SWDF devoted forces against several WAAGHs that threatened toppling Federation worlds, but overall, the SWDF consider the Orks a minor menace.
Vhozon
The Vhozon are untrustworthy in the eyes of the SWDF. Several times they have turned on alliances, especially when it comes to the Necrons. Many times, they will approach as friends, while other times they will devote entire warbands to destroying a SWDF presence. As such, hostile action is usually taken when the Vhozon appear.
Kriken Empire
The Kriken Empire has long since been a nuisance to the rest of the universe, raiding supply routes on the border of Federation space. However, their location relative to Star World has allowed very little conflict between the Empire and the SWDF. The Kriken's imperialism, however, has still lead to several small space battles between explorer fleets of both sides.
Confederation of Universal Evil
The COUE was a major enemy of the SWDF, though it was the Yoshi Bodyguards that did the majority of the fighting against them. However, sects of them still remain, especially on or around Star World. Fighting with its remnants is still a major portion of the SWDF's conflict since the fall of the Dark Perforation.
Neo Confederation of Universal Evil
After many pockets of COUE resistance united, Star World took up arms to deal with the new threat. Now stronger than ever, the two factions have met in small skirmishes, both knowing a full war is imminent between the two great armies, and the resulting bloodbath may devastate both forces.
Dark Perforation Army
The DPA invaded Star World once, sealing off a major portion of the SWDF from their home planet. The forces on site retaliated, pushing them off of their world. They did not stop there, however, and drove straight into their fortress, destroying the Dark Perforation with the aid of the Pokeworld Defensive Forces and the Galactic Federation Marine Corps. This was a major moral boost for the people of Star World, and many regiments who served in this battle adopted the mantra, "Victory over Darkness." The Dark Perforation has since been defeated, being one of the few enemies the SWDF has not had to deal with remnants of.
Pokeworld Defensive Forces
The PDF have been a plague on the SWDF in years past. Many situations have called for SWDF support, especially when it involves riots or infiltration of their command structure by criminal organizations. Since the DPC invasion, and the takeover by Cyrus Vance, the PDF has become a more unified force. Now, it has become a close ally to Star World, and the two factions hope to be of more use to eachother in future intergalactic incidents.
Trivia
- The SWDF were based from the Imperial Guard from Warhammer 40k, the normal military force of the series that used similar Lasguns and Flak armor. They both employ commissars, and use similar stylized armored units.
- Several of the soldier variants are based off of the Command and Conquer series, several tanks are based off of the Metal Slug series, and a few ships are variants of ships used in Starcraft. In addition, many ship and mobile suit models derive themselves from the Gundam series.
- The SWDF went through several changes, originally being named the Yoshi Guardsmen, the volunteer force for the Yoshi Bodyguards. Sub later scrapped this idea, and decided to develop the military of Star World itself.
