Appearance

First and foremost and what colors nearly everything she does and how she looks, Douweis is awkward. She's in the middle of a growth spurt and is not yet used to the height she's already gained. She's also rather skinny, which does nothing to help her from looking like a gangly scarecrow. Her hair is dark brown, naturally wavy but straightened each morning (unless she wakes up late, in which case it's pulled back tightly to keep the waves under control...which doesn't often work), and her eyes are hazel-brown.


Douweis' PB is Keira Knightley (specically pictures from The Jacket, Pride and Predjudice, and pictures taken around that time period).

Personality

Scared, mostly. Especially at the beginning of the year, as she feels entirely out of her league and doubts that, despite her testing, she really has what it takes to make it at Second Heaven. The people scare her, especially "foreigners" that she was never around in her all-white, all-Christian, mostly-middle-class rural town. She tries to avoid talking to people in general and in class especially in an effort to keep from putting her foot in her mouth, and stutters horribly when having to talk. She just tries to be invisible in general, which fails horribly when she trips over something and lands on her ass often.

Underneath all her insecurity and awkwardness lies an organized, quick, and critical mind. When in her 'comfort' zones (generally sitting around outside), she's much calmer and relaxed and could pull off a real conversation...at the beginning, at least. She enjoys reading and will spend her time not spent in homework or sports reading somewhere secret, inside or outside.

History

Douweis was born to a upper Middle Class Ohio family that settled in one of the many rural districts among the border of Ohio and West Virginia. Her father and oldest brother were big animal vets, the only in their and surrounding towns, her mother the only (this word is blocked? o.o?) in the same area, and her second oldest brother the local Phy Ed teacher and football coach and the high school. Social activities were limited to school and church, so most of her time was spent on her own in the woods surrounding their house and taking care of the horses that her father breeds.

She was easily the smartest person in her school, which was not much of an accomplishment. Her teachers were the first to broach the subject of transferring her to a private school for high school, so her talents would not go to waste, and her parents agreed and they spent a few months researching schools. She tested for a few and got into more than she expected, with more scholarships than expected as well. They decided on Second Heaven, since her parents were worried that she wasn't worldly enough where she was.

Of course, now she figures that was the absolute worst reason to have picked the school. She's out of place and has no idea how to fit in, and she doesn't have the social network of her family or church to fall back on.
