vs Wimbledon AELTC (4th March 2008)

The stress clearly got to the Club's gallant card-twiddlers.

Roger

Sorry, but we lost 30-35. It was a grand occasion and, as anticipated, they had wonderful facilities. Val and Peter even gained an understanding of each other's system before the end of the evening.

Hopefully the AELTC will invite us back again, despite none of us being a High Court judge or having played in the Davis Cup. I did offer to show them round our clubhouse. I think they almost liked us, even though we weren't wearing a tie.

Many thanks for so generously not coming yourself.

with best wishes

Gavin

vs Wishel (27th November 2007)

Well ... our run of successes had to end some time, and it was probably for the best that it ended after just one match. The same valiant team—Gray-Marlow-O'Sullivan-Wilson—braved difficult driving conditions and an unusual taste in Spanish murals as they struggled against the best that Wishel could throw at them. (For those who aren't familiar with it, Wishel is a club of just two courts, one net and 30 carpetbaggers.) Despite Wilson's delicate backhands and O'Sullivan's tight ball control, the team lost both the league match and the knockout round that the 20 boards represented.

After this trouncing, manager Marlow is putting the entire team (apart from himself) on the subs bench for the next match against Surbiton. Much is expected of the new A-team: Hazel Kelly, Jennie Meir, Roger Marlow, Peter Haynes.

vs St. George's Hill (15th November 2007)

The Mixed Second Team—consisting of Liz Gray, Roger Marlow, Val O'Sullivan and Gavin Wilson—beat St. George's Hill by 35 IMPS over 20 boards.

Next it's an away match versus Wishel Tennis Club of Woking.
