TDLTC Annual Grounds Tidy Up (18th February)
Sunday March 20th
Could you spare a few hours to help a working party get the grounds ready for the forthcoming season. As well as generally clearing the car park area we’ll be attempting to tidy up the area around the new lodge and add some new planting.
We will meet at 10.00 a.m. and coffee will be provided, as well as, a complimentary barbecue lunch and a drink from the bar!
If you can bring some basic tools, such as forks, spades, leaf rakes, loppers and secateurs that would be marvellous.
If you can spare some time and so that we have an idea of numbers, please could you contact Julia Francis, the Grounds Secretary, on either of the following:-

Extending the Bar (26th October)
Hi All
Over the next three days we will be carrying out some minor changes to the bar area. The work involves an extension to the stud partition wall to increase the bar floorspace. The cost will be minimal relative to the benefits the changes should bring about, and in no way will affect our plans for improvements to the court surfaces. All cost estimates remain as stated in the AGM.

TDLTC Winter Tournaments (24th October)
To All Adult Playing Members
To promote our vision of full year-round tennis at the club, and to leverage the opportunities that the new floodlights bring, the Club will be running various Winter Tournaments over the next few months.
The events will be Mens Singles, Ladies Singles, Mens Doubles, Ladies Doubles and Mixed Doubles. There will be no separate Vets events.
The doubles events will be based on randomly drawn partners (rather than entering as a pair as per the Summer tournaments).
Finals Day will be Saturday 12th March.
If you want to enter some or all of the events for which you are eligible, please let me know by email or phone. Or alternatively, add your name to the entry form in the Clubhouse. Please make it clear which events you are entering, and provide your email and telephone contact details.
The closing date for entries is Sunday 7th November.

TDLTC AGM Minutes from 2009 (22nd October)
Dear Member
Many thanks to all of you who came to last night's AGM.
Due to any oversight on my part, the minutes of last year's AGM were not sent out. My humble apologies. I have now uploaded them to a Google file depository, accessed via the lin below, and included this link at the bottom of the AGM website page at http://editthis.info/tennis/Annual_General_Meeting_21st_October_2010. If there are any problems accessing it, please let me know.
with best wishes

TDLTC Information Officer
The importance of attending this Thursday's AGM at the Tennis Club—a message from the Chairman (18th October)
Hi All
As you are aware, the AGM is this Thursday evening. You may not be aware that I have put court surfaces on the agenda. The reason for this is that the committee would like some direction as to what priority should be given to the various options open to us. This does not mean that we are in a financial position to proceed with re-surfacing. The agenda item is more of a request to decide which aspirational target we should aim for. Please note that we are not just talking about the hard courts.
The other issue is a prompt start. At last year's AGM we had to wait for 20 minutes before we could start—26 people are required to make up a quorum. So please make an effort to come. The meeting starts at 8pm and there will be a complimentary drink for all full adult players who attend.
P.S. Thursday night is also the date of the Esher College Open Evening. You will probably save time if you can avoid driving into Weston Green Road, either by coming on foot or by parking in a residential road slightly further away than usual.
Regards
Andrew Meatyard

Match Reports (various) from Graeme Boddy (outgoing) (8th September 2010)
Report on Club Championships held Saturday 17th July
Eights finals were held, with the Junior events starting at 11:00am and the Open events starting at 2:00 pm. The events were all played on grass in glorious weather. A large gathering of members and their families enjoyed watching tennis of a good standard, with all matches keenly contested. The outstanding final of the day was the Mens' Open event between the defending champion, Jack Freeman, and Malcolm Parker. Who said serve and volley tennis was dead? These two very fine players came to the net at every opportunity and produced a very entertaining final. Jack won after a very long match, with the third set going to 19 - 17.
Thanks go to the umpires and the lady committee members who once again provided a fantastic home-baked cream afternoon tea.

TDLTC social mix-ins on Friday evenings continue (18th August)
Don't forget that Friday evenings are still for social tennis at TDLTC. The weather will get better!
The slot is particularly suitable for members who are capable of organising themselves into foursomes without the aid of another adult, as Peter L won't be doing his stuff for the next few weeks.
From Peter Light re. Fridays (3rd August)
The supervised Junior Mix-in sessions on Fridays (5.00-6.30pm) will not run during August. We will be in touch with a date for their re-commencement. Juniors are of course still welcome to play during this time slot.
The Adult Social Mix-in on Friday evenings (6.30-8.30pm) remain a fixture. But continued 'supervision'/organising of pairs will depend on the numbers attending.

The Family Tournament on Sunday 25th July starts at 2.15 pm, with an estimated finish time of 6pm. Entry is just £4 per person, which includes the cost of prizes and balls.

This is late notice. If insufficient numbers reply, we will postpone the event and run it in September instead. So do not email me any money today.
Don't forget it's FINALS DAY tomorrow (16th July)

Member's Bike Stolen Yesterday Evening (6th July)
David Salisbury's bike was stolen from the tennis club last night between about 8.30 and 10.00pm. The bike was hidden behind the garages, leaning against the doors and could not be seen from the road. It was also about 10 yards from where many players were sitting outside having a drink. Whoever nicked it clearly had the nerve to walk right into the club's grounds, up and round the garages, on the off-chance that they might find a bike to walk off with. It was still light and they would have been able to hear the players just round the corner 10 yards away!
So remember: ALWAYS lock your bike, even if you think it can't be seen.
And if anyone who was at the club last night saw someone loitering, could they could contact David at david.salisbury5@ntlworld.com?

Family Tournament Postponed to Sunday 25th July (8th June)
Our apologies, but the Family Tournament, which had been scheduled for this weekend, has been postponed to Sunday, 25th July, starting at 2pm. This is due to the poor weather outlook and a surfeit of events at the club during a short period.
The club calendar has been updated at http://editthis.info/tennis/Calendar.

8th May 2010: 1. Draw for Wimbledon Tickets (Sunday 16th May) 2. Golf Day (Thursday 1st July)
1. WIMBLEDON TICKET DRAW—SUNDAY 16th MAY
The draw for the Wimbledon tickets will be held on Sunday 16th May at 5.00 pm. Please come along. The bar will be open. This is a vital event to attend if you are keen to go to Wimbledon this year but don't yet have a ticket. Just think: you could be present at a five-set epic with Andy Murray lasting until the early hours. Worth an hour of your Sunday, don’t you think?
All adult members (excluding mid-week and social members) who have renewed their membership this year and who are signed up as BTM members will be entered into the draw. You will need to pay for the tickets on the day so bring a cheque book!
If you are not a British Tennis member, please click on the link below to sign up. All playing members, including juniors, can join. This will help the club’s future allocation of Wimbledon tickets and eligibility for future grants and funding. Membership is free and only a few clicks away …..
http://www.lta.org.uk/britishtennismembership/
If you have not yet renewed your TDLTC membership, please contact Chris Lewis to renew before the draw, chris@jaza.clara.co.uk .
If you are not able to attend the draw on the 16th, you can send a nominee in your place as long as you let the club knows in advance. Either contact Jane Baller on janeballer@ntlworld.com or 020 8339 0023 by Saturday, or Andrew Meatyard on the day on 07846 019853.
And finally, the usual reminder: Tickets need to be chosen and paid for on the day.
2. TDLTC GOLF DAY—THURSDAY 1st JULY
A TDLTC golf day has been arranged for Thursday 1st July 2010 at The Drift Golf Club. All members are invited to this great day out. All handicaps welcome (up to 28!) The cost is £57 which includes two 18-hole rounds, lunch and prizes.
Last year was a great success and everyone had a good time. Like last year the morning session is a Stapleford competition which is an excellent leveller regardless of your handicap. The afternoon round is a fun Texas Scramble where mixed abilities can make their own contribution!
Please contact Ian Morey at ianmorey@hotmail.co.uk or on 07771 941539 for further details, or to book a place and obtain an entry form.
See you at the 19th hole!

(If you have, it's a testament to your reliability and the quality of your teas.) For the time being, we are having a trial period without Saturday teas. Your feedback is always appreciated.
- Afternoon Drop-In . If you would like to attend a regular weekly session -- and I believe Irene is referring to weekday afternoon tennis -- please get in touch with Irene at irene@themccleans.plus.com listing your preferred days and preferred start-time (2pm or 2.30).

25th April 2010: TDLTC Membership Renewal
Membership renewal is due as of 1st May 2010 and there are still a number of existing members who have yet to renew. We need your support so please do not delay.
I attach copies of the membership renewal forms and tournament entry form for this season. Hard copies can be found at the club on the notice board outside and inside the clubhouse.
If anyone wants to discuss issues arising out of the fees, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
The grass courts should be opening in the next two weeks.
I hope you will be renewing and are looking forward to the new season. Now the floodlights are in, we really do offer tennis 365 days a year.
I look forward to hearing from you.

18th April 2010: Access Code for the new pavilion next to the Thames Ditton hard courts
Needless to say, this code must not be given to anyone else. The pavilion is our smart new members-only tennis facility -- not Jez's Crack Den. (My apologies if there is a Jez at the club.) Please let any committee member know if you suspect it's being misused.
The code will change at the start of May, and will be disclosed to each of you when you renew your subs.
For the rest of this month, the code is ...... xxxx
10th April 2010: Booking Courts + Invitation to Ross & Flo's Hog Roast Party
From Chris Lewis:
1. How to Book Courts
The committee is reviewing the weekly programme from last year, attached, in the light of the low use of the courts on some evenings. In addition the introduction of floodlighting on hard courts 7 to 9 mean that a new court booking system is required to manage the use of those courts. This online facility will also allow the grass courts to be booked for competitive matches outside of social mix-in sessions.
The intention is that all bookings should be done online to guarantee the use of the court. If you have not booked online, you may not be entitled to use the court. This may necessitate an online facility being operated at the club, in both the pavilion and clubhouse, so that bookings may be checked and made on-site.
This will be very much a new approach for the club. We need to develop processes which work for everyone as far as possible.
Finally, the new booking system requires a log-in and password for each user. These details will be sent to each member when you renew your membership for the coming season.
From Ross Prideaux:
2. Invitation to Ross & Flo's Hog Roast
“Hog Roast Drop In” June 5th from 2.00pm till late!
Fellow Players and Members and Partners who know me and Eva and have not yet met our Little FLO, please feel free to drop by Before, After or even Instead of your afternoon exercise on the courts,
Food and drink a plenty on Saturday June 5th.
Venue: 64 the Roundway, Claygate, Esher, KT10 0DW
(Google maps inaccurate except for road so link confusing. 64 is the End Terrace, bottom left of the Green Grass play area hidden by the tree! Suitable Bunting on the top floor windows will be evident.)
I am celebrating my 50th and Flo will be celebrating her 7 months!
A very casual affair but RSVP to ross@pridox.orangehome.co.uk by May 5th would be appreciated so we can cater fairly accurately.
Siblings and babies very welcome too.
