[edit] Background

WIW's Money in the Bank pay-per-view event centers around a match of the same name, in which multiple wrestlers use ladders to retrieve a briefcase hanging above the ring. The briefcase contains a contract that guarantees the winner a match for a top championship of their choosing at any time within the next year. The contracts for 2018 specifically grant the male and female winners a match for the world championship of their respective brand. The 2018 event will include two ladder matches, one for male wrestlers and one for females, each having eight participants, evenly divided between the Rage and ShowDown brands. Male wrestlers will compete for a contract that grants them a match for either Rage's World Championship or Heavyweight Championship, while female wrestlers will compete for a contract to grant them a match for either the Rage World Women's Championship or ShowDown Heavyweight Women's Championship.

[edit] Storylines

The card will featured matches that resulted from scripted storylines and had results predetermined by World Incorporated Wrestling on the Rage and ShowDown brands. Storylines were produced on WIW's weekly television shows, Wednesday Night Rage and ShowDown.

Qualification matches for the men's ladder match began on the May 9 episode of Rage. Mad Hanson defeated Daniel Mazurek to qualify while Chris Gomez qualified by defeating Matt Borske and Michael Nathe in a triple threat match, after Eric Stevens and the Evolved Revolution attacked Borske. The next night on ShowDown, Mark Semmler and Jeffrey Mahana qualified for the match by defeating Devin Sullivan and Marchus Batey, respectively. The following Rage further triple threat matches yielded three more participants: Jordan Keltz defeated Elijah Eason and Joe Smith, Kevin McAlmond defeated Jason Downing and Eric Hawkins, after Stevens and the Evolved Revolution's interference backfired when the Borske's attacked them while Mazurek (standing in for Stevens, who had been injured by Borske) defeated Brandon Martin and Aaron Kelly after Nathe attacked Martin. On the May 17 episode of ShowDown, Marc Beltran and Brandon of The Dooms Day defeated Seth Smith and Craig Remsen in a tag team match, allowing one member of Dooms Day to qualify. The following ShowDown, Eric Horne was scheduled to face Kruze Banderob to determine SmackDown's final participant, but due to injury, Banderob was unable to compete. Horne's new opponent was determined in a triple threat last chance match between Dustin Simpson (who was added to the match after a victory over Horne a few weeks before), Sullivan and Batey. Batey won and will face Horne the next week in the final qualification match.

Qualification matches for the women's ladder match also began on the May 9 episode of Rage, with Faith Cronin defeating Brittany Hiatt and Dianna Agron and in a triple threat match to qualify for the match. The next night on ShowDown, Avery Gold qualified over Brooke Slevin and Kristen Erickson in a triple threat match. The following Rage, Brenah McAlmond-Quinn defeated Kelli Kerpa and Courtney Hope in a triple threat match while Leah qualifed by defeating Somer Cummings and Kayla Royse in a triple threat match. On May 17 episode of ShowDown, Ali Richards defeated Ryan Newman and Rachele Brooke Smith in a triple threat match to qualify. On the following episode of Rage, Beatrice LaGreca defeated Brittany Hiatt, Victoria Lehr and Michelle Schmalzried in a fatal four-way match to qualify. The next night on ShowDown, Teresa Turville defeated Brittany Fitte and Kailla Matteson in a triple threat match to qualify, while Sarah Hicks qualified by defeating Brooke Slevin. It was later announced that on the May 30 episode of Rage, a eight-women gauntlet match betwen Agron, Cummings, Hiatt, Kerpa, Hope, Kayla Royse, Lehr and Schmalzried with the winner claiming the final spot in the Women's Money in the Bank match.

At SuperBrawl X, Kevin Hunter defeated Corbin Edwards to retain the WIW Heavyweight Championship. After the match, Edwards attacked Hunter, causing Hunter to bleed, turning heel in the pocess. The two continued to feud through Greatest World War and Chaos Theory with their matches ending in draws. ShowDown Commissioner Dixe Finnegan scheduled a fourth match for Money in the Bank and promised there would be a decisive winner. On the May 17 episode of ShowDown, Edwards earned the right to choose a stipulation for the match by defeating Hunter. The following week, Corbin attacked Hunter with a Superkick followed by a Rolling Corbin at ringside and chose a Steel Cage Last Man Standing match, where the cage door to the cage would remain open and they could fight anywhere in the arena.

During a WIW special event on May 14, Mckenzie Wofford were being interviewed by Devonn McGrorty. WIW World Women's Champion Sarah Grobel interrupted the interview and challenged Wofford to a match at Money in the Bank, putting her title on the line. Wofford accepted the challenge. The following week, Samantha Clakley defeated Grobel in a non-title match and was added to the match at Money in the Bank, making it a triple threat match. Later that evening, Clakley, Wofford and Grobel all three singed the contract for the match.

On the May 17 episode of ShowDown, Women's Heavyweight Champion Kadee Jones celebrated her championship reign. newly assigned Women's General Manager Stephanie Thennis interrupted Jones and scheduled a title match between her and Emily Taflan for Money in the Bank.

On the May 9 episode of Rage, Eric Stevens cost Matt Borske a chance to qualify for the Money in the Bank ladder match. The following week, Stevens attempted to cost Kevin McAlmond his qualifying match but Borske attacked Stevens, Borske would then attack Stevens backstage and perfomed a spear on Stevens through a wall. On the May 23 episode of Rage, after Borske, Kooper McAlmond and Kevin McAlmond defeated Stevens, Mazurek and Fonger, Stevens attacked Borske with a steel chair. A match between the two was made offical for Money in the Bank later in the night.

On the May 24 episode of ShowDown, after failing to qualify for the Money in the Bank ladder match, Simpson confronted ShowDown General Manager Turf Finnegan, who made a tag team number one contender's match for later in the evening. Dustin Simpson and Jesse Dern defeated The Larsons (Steven Larson and Tom Larson) to become the number one contenders to face The Bloodbath Brothers (Reintjes and Truax) for the WIW Heavyweight Tag Team Championship at Money in the Bank.

During a tag team match on the April 25 episode of Rage, Brandon Martin performed a vertical suplex on Michael Nathe, which Nathe claimed injured him and why he missed the Greatest World War. At Backlash, Mad Hanson and Brandon Martin defeated Daniel Mazurek and Michael Nathe. During an interview on the May 9 episode, Martin spoke dearly about his family and fighting the wars around the world. In response, Nathe said that Martin was all fake and all talk, he was not a nice guy and promised to reveal the truth about Martin. On the May 23, Nathe had various men dress up as members of Martin's family and accused Martin of violence and other stuff. Martin interrupted the segment and attacked the imposters along with Nathe. The following week, a match between the two was made for Money in the Bank.

On the May 23 episode of Rage, after Kooper McAlmond teamed with Kevin McAlmond and Matt Borske to win a six-man tag team match, Kooper set his sights back on the WIW International Championship, stating that Fonger was using the title to get noticed more. After the match and his speech, Aaron Kelly smashed a guitar on his back. On May 30, McAlmond faced Kelly in a number one contender's match, but both were attacked by the International Champion Michael Fonger, who stated neither one of them deserved a shot at his title. After, Rage General Manager Rex Martin confronted Fonger stating that he had no right to get involved in the contender's match, telling Fonger that no matter what Fonger would defend the title against one of them, angering Fonger. On June 1, a match between the three of them for the International Championship was made by Rex Martin for Money in the Bank.
