On the December 3 episode of Concussion The previously scheduled tournament was changed to a Tag Team Elimination Gauntlet match with the winners facing Chris Jericho and Bobby Roode for the AEW Tag Team Championship later in the evening. On the January 28, 2013 episode of Concussion Dolph Ziggler and Wade Barrett were removed from the gauntlet match being replaced by Brad Maddox and Joey Ryan, As of February 1, 2013 the debuting Five Star Soaring Eagles (Rob Van Dam and Jack Swagger) will also be involved in the gauntlet match for the shot at the Tag Team Championships.
The main event will be for the AEW Championship with the current champion Damien Sandow defending the AEW Championship against Eric Young in a Last Man Standing match. Last month at the Ultimate Ascension Young and Sandow both fell to the floor holding onto the World Heavyweight Championship, on the December 3 episode of Concussion Sandow was given back the World Heavyweight Championship.
Another main rivalry leading into the Last Stand is a Five-on-Five "Winner takes All" Elimination match with Team AEW being led by AEW Owner Shane McMahon facing Team wMe being led by wMe Owner Paul Heyman, On the December 3 episode of Concussion the battle lines were drawn with Shane McMahon making the challenge and Paul Heyman accepted, that same night Tyler Reks, Val Venis, and Rob Van Dam all came out for Paul Heyman and Wrestlemania Entertainment. The members of both teams will be announced on the December 17 episode of The Award Show for AEW. On December 17 at the Award Show, Paul Heyman announced four of the five members, being Tyler Reks, Rob Van Dam, Val Venis, and Shawn Michaels, with the final member being announced at a later date. On the December 24 Christmas edition of Concussion Shane McMahon announced his first four members of Team AEW including; Randy Orton, The Rock, and Cactus Jack with the final member of Team AEW being announced at a later date. On the final Concussion before the pay-per-view January 28, 2013 the final two men were announced as Kevin Nash (wMe) and Dolph Ziggler (who was taken out of the gauntlet match earlier on Concussion). wMe seemed to have the upper hand as Orton going into brawl was no one hundred percent as Team wMe had attack him backstage and put him through a table later on in the show.
