Takari is a world located in the Perseus Arm of the Milky Way Galaxy. It is the baseworld/center of operations of the Takaran Imperial Galactic Armada and Takaran Empire, as well as the homeworld of several presonages of note, including Field Marshal Zeth Holt. Located in the Takaran System, it is a center of interuniversal trade and communications. According to the Takari Imperial Calender, the year is currently TIY 339.

Planetary Environment

The homespace of Takari is similar to the surface in that it is well facilitated but at the same time maintained in a balance of sparse structural prominence. It is true that there is little in the space between Takari and its moons, almost nothing spare a few small stations and weapons satellites. Some of the CAs (Conservative-Aggressives) in the Takaran Imperial Court have been protesting this apparent lack of protection for the homeworld for a considerable amount of time, since before the Empire even began interstellar expansion. Often pointed out as the countermeasure to this are the considerable defensive and offensive weapons structures located on Gerra, the larger, second moon of Takari, and the next closest planets in the system: Illyria and Zen. These include counterpoint energy matrices.

Gerra

The larger of Takari's two natural satellites, with a diameter measuring 4,809km (~2,988mi), is the home to the most formidable of its host's defenses. The surface is literally covered with sprawling complexes devoted to troop lodging, research and development, fighter launch facilities, and fleet docks. While not completely hollowed as in the case of its Terran counterpart, Luna, large sections of the interior of the moon have been carved out and built into for similar usages as the surface. The deepest feature is the Perseus-Orion Shunt Cannon, which is currently under construction and should be available for trial testing early 2263.

Uroda

Main Article: Uroda

The smaller of the two natural satellites, with a diameter measuring 3,678km (~2,285mi), is an extensively takraformed ecumenopolis supporting approximately 71% of the Takaran planetary system's population (total 10.8 billion). Interspersed with a number of public and private parks and gardens, the city satellite was designed, like so many other things in Takaran Culture, with beauty as a high priority. Buildings are neat, organized, and sleekly-designed, emphasizing the stringent policies of public display in place within the Empire's homespace. Under the surface the structure is more flexible, in some instances as sprawling and unorganized as an ant hill. Predictably, most of the less-than-legal activity present, or attempted to be made present, in the Imperial Capital is in the Uroda Underground. Obviously, the expression "beauty is only skin deep" has a very special and literal meaning to Takarans.

Surface Overview

Takari, over time, has allowed most of its larger cities to die out, in favor of small towns centered around the homes and holdings of the nobility. These larger cities, once mostly abandoned due to the government encouraged "Space Rush," were demolished and restored to a state of natural growth. Of those that remain, cities like the Imperial Capital at Varsovia are neatly organized metropolises near the center and become increasingly disorganized as they move outwards. Older sections and boroughs are rambling urban jungles while newer and more recently remodeled sections are as neat and organized as the center. As would be expected, structures deigned as more important appear to center, such as Holt Interstellar in Kent and the Dark Pretorium in Varsovia. The majority of these cities, which also include Aquilia and Sargon among others, include cultured garden parks.

Elsewhere on the planet, the holdings of the nobility—of which there 283 families and 561 individual estates, all highly variable in size—are surrounded by towns with populations often smaller than 100,000 people. The estates are generally structured in one of two ways. The first layout is centralized around the structural holding of the noble family itself, then surrounded by the estate property associated with it. Along the edge of the estate proper is the town, many times arranged in a crescent shape surrounding one side of the estate proper. The second layout, which is more common amongst the very oldest and sometimes unused noble residencies, is still centered about the structural holding. However, rather than being surrounded completely by the estate proper, the structural holding is on the edge of both the town and the estate proper boundaries.

Takari's surface is roughly 62% water (361,681,756.7 km2) and 48% (280,011,674.8 km2) land. The most prominent land biomes are forests, which currently cover approximately 68% of the land area. This is significantly higher than it was before Takari became capable of space colonization. Prior to this, records show that only about 42% of the land area was forested in TIY 108.

Composition

Atmosphere

The rough atmospheric breakdown of Takari's atmosphere is:

Element/Gas Percent Forms
Nitrogen 70.84% N2, NO2
Oxygen* 25.69% O2, O3, H2O
Argon 2.05% Ar
Krypton 1.32% Kr
CO2* 0.04% CO2
*CO2 counted apart from Oxygen.

At any given time, the average amount of water vapor present in the Takaran atmosphere usually accounts for about 1% of the general makeup.

Geologic

The planet Takari has a solid crust, semi-solid/liquid mantle, and liquid inner and outer core, as is the case in the vast majority of life sustaining planets. The crust is primarily composed of [to be added]. The fluid part of the mantle is mostly iron, with aluminum, titanium, and barium components along with smaller trace elements. The outer core is an iron-cobalt alloy, and spins about the inner core, which is nearly exclusively iron.

Sentient Species Overview

Main Article: Takaran(Species)

Takari is home to only one sentient species. According to Terran technical classifications Takarans are Race 1808001. Naturally, Takaran technical classifications label the species as 11. The resemblance in physical appearance between Terrans and Takarans is striking. So striking that on first contact, Acubierre Helms Holt is reported as saying: "Almost 2,000 parsecs from Terra and still surrounded by Terrans." Both species are bipedal mammals and share similar proportions in limb and appendage size. Eye colors are virtually the same for both, as well as hair colors present (with the exception of red hair, which did not appear in the Takaran gene pool until it was introduced by assimilation of Terran gentics into the gene pool). They are in fact so similar, that depending on one metabolic allele, Terrans and Takarans are capable of cross-breeding. Even when the two metabolic alleles result in incompatibility between the two individuals concerned, a now relatively simple procedure can amend this.

Of course, differences between Takarans and Terrans do exist, it would be impossible for their not to be. More subtle physical manifestations include the tendency for paler Takaran skin tones and complexions, a vast prevalence of darker hair colors over lighter varieties, and a barely discernible "scratch," or groove near the base of Takaran skulls (which apparently serves no purpose). Also notable is the fact that Takarans do not have vermiform appendixes.

The biggest differences between the two species however, is in regards to mental capabilities. Unlike their Orion Arm counterparts, Takarans have mild psychic abilities. In the mainstream population, this faculty is mostly limited to very a very basic empath ability. It was long sought after throughout Takaran history to develop or bolster mental ability (by either spiritual or scientific means) to allow for telepathic communication. Some vague claims of accomplishment have been made in the past, but never verified, and for the most part the species has accepted that the ability is beyond natural ability and for such to be made available communication augments like those used by many galactic class civilizations must be used. Still, though specific thoughts, words and the like cannot be telepathically communicated by natural ability, very basic conveyance of vague concepts can sometimes be communicated by very advanced mentalists by a combination of natural ability and prior knowledge of a person behaviour and personality. In studies of Terran/Takaran cross-breeds, it has been shown that these abilities reduce sharply for each mixed generation. By the fourth generation (each breeding generation after the parent generation being a pair of one pure Takaran and the mixed offspring of the previous generation), these abilities may be completely absent.

History

Main Article: History of Takari Baseline

Beginning in the year TIY 1 (1922 according to the Alliance Calender) the ambitious, newly reformed, radically popular Takaran Empire began expanding its territorial holdings at an extraordinary rate, systematically destroying and assimilating opposing nations and annexing political entities favoring them. By TIY 37, Takari, then called Viermon, had been carved into three massive countries. By TIY 56, the Takaran Empire controlled the planet, which officially became known by the same name as the nation that now dominated it.

TIY 88 (2060 according to the Alliance Calender) saw the arrival of "Terran Fever" on Takari. This year saw first contact between a small Terran colonial vessel under the command of Acubierre Helms Holt stranded in the Takaran System and the Empire. Completely won over by the FTL technology brought and the scintillating tales of invasion and recompense brought by the Terrans, the colonizers, survivors numbering some 1,503, were welcomed with much more than open arms. The technology was eagerly snapped up by the Imperial Military, and led to an almost overnight transformation of it. The vessels in use by the Empire up until that point had only been capable of reaching just past the edge of the solar system, and were immediately junked in favor of sleek, newly designed fusions of Takaran ingenuity and design with Terran (technically Vykkian) FTL technology. This was the direct cause of the reformation of the short-lived Extratakarial Navy and the divided Imperial Military into the Galactic Armada. The Galactic Armada in turn became the main arm of the Empire, which began rapid expansion into neighboring systems, conquering interstellar territory with the same ferocity and speed as they had on their planet.

On the planet itself, the Terrans became global heroes. Terran culture and fashions spread as quickly as the technology. A primitive form of the Terran language of Alliance Common and Terran history were picked up in small amounts in Takaran schools. Terran names for children became extremely popular. Everything from architecture to board games were swallowed by the eager Takaran society. Acubierre Helms Holt himself was given the status of Takaran Nobility when he accepted the title of Count in place of the ousted Kaien Family.

Official contact with the Terran Sphere came in TIY 320. The Terran Alliance was accepted as a firm ally, though initially the differences between the actual Terra and the highly romanticized Takaran concept of them that had evolved since initial contact set Takarans at semi-arms length. When Zeth Holt resigned his commission and joined the Terran dominated Freikorps, such tensions lessened once again. A steady exchange system has begun to emerge in recent years, with Takarans living and serving in Terran space, as well as Terrans (to a lesser degree) living and serving in Takaran space.
