The Dominion of Arëdighùan is a nation occupying the central (and single largest) part of Deirityr, in eastern Taria. Arëdighùan is bordered by the Calarian Ocean and the Tiltanar Sea in the south, and the Northern Ocean in the north.

After overthrowing the bonds of Norric Colonialism at the beginning of the 11th Century, the Arëdighùani established the short-lived Republic of Arëdighùan. Though beginning with the greatest intentions, the original visionaries of the new republic failed to see that the many racial differences of the nation and the republic became the greatest failure of Arëdighùani history.

In 1134 the Republic was overthrown in the bloody ‘Monarchist Revolution’, and the leader of the revolution Yrjänä was crowned Righ-Këjsãre of Arëdighùan. Through his leadership, and his subsequent descendants, Arëdighùan was made into a modern, stable, if authoritarian nation.

Arëdighùan is a unitary Absolute Monarchy, with absolute power vested in the Righ-Këjsãre or Banríon-Këjsãrinna. Though power is centralised in the monarch’s hands, it is carried out by the various Chancellor’s appointed by the ruling monarch.

Arëdighùan is a multi-ethnic and multicultural nation, which has been described as ‘tolerate by necessity’, due to the nations often seemingly forced policies of toleration and multiculturalism. The two largest ethnic groups are the Apphillians and the Shakrihl who together make up over 90% of the population (people who identify themselves as Apphillians constituting 70% of that). Due to over 400 years of mixed breeding between it is estimated that out of the 53 Million people living in Arëdighùan that at least 35-45 Million of them are mixed in ethnicity between Apphillians and Shakrihl.

Though a first world nation Arëdighùan’s level of technological development is somewhat lacking, but thankfully its massive resource spread (including Crude Oil, Coal, Timber, and Natural Gas) its economy has grown rapidly in the last fifty years. This growth has allowed Arëdighùan to become the largest economy in Taria and Veltland, and greatly expanded its voice as an international power in geopolitics.

Etymology

Pre-History

Shakrihl Empire

Norric Colonisation

Rebellion and Monarchy

After breakign away from the Norric Empire in 1106 CE, the brief Republic of Arëdighùan was formed for 20 Years, before falling to a rebellion organized by the first Righ-Këjsãre of Arëdighùan, Yrjänä.

And thus the Dominion of Arëdighùan was born. From the ashes of the Republic, Yrjänä and his Army took the country to new hights, quickly modernizing the nation and bringing wealth to its people.

The period of economic growth and prosperity was followed by a series of ethnic battles with the Storre Lucht, and Shakril Minorities, as the country closed in itself for almost 60 years. During the Great War, the country slowly opened its boarders to Norric Trade flowing from the Tysan Empire to the Sapphllian mainland.

The Countries slow reopening to Eshraval was quickly put aside as the discovery of massive oil, gas and silicone deposits lead the Monarchy to fully open Arëdighùan to the world, and its money.

Today Arëdighùan is the most powerful nation in Taria and Naoria, and is considered to be a waking great power in global Geo-politics.

Government

The Montasje building in Yrjänägrød

The Dominion of Arëdighùan is ruled as an absolute monarchy, established by Righ-Këjsãre Yrjänä at the end of the Monarchist Revolution. Various lower levels of government are in place to carry out the Righ-Këjsãre's wishes, but ultimately the decisions of the nation rest solely on that figure.

Righ-Këjsãre,

The Absolute monarch of Arëdighùan is the Righ-Këjsãre, descending from the house of Körnishenkä, and new monarch’s are chosen on the basis of being the closest descendant of the last monarch, male or female (per the Monarch act of 1279).

The Righ-Këjsãre is the absolute authority in the Dominion, but because of the ever increasing amount of work it takes to run a nation, the Righ-Këjsãre has since branched out to allow some of the load to be lifted.

Grand Chancellor

The Grand Chancellor (GC) of Arëdighùan is appointed at the beginning of a new monarch’s reign, either by reinstating the last monarch’s Grand Chancellor (called residual monarchic authority) , or by choosing a new one (usually from the nobility, or aristocracy, but it is not unheard of to take one from other areas).

It is the job of the GC to introduce and close motions in the Montasje, as well as to act as a figurehead of the government in occasions where the Righ-Këjsãre is unavailable. In the most recent case of Righ-Këjsãre Örjan Körnishenkä, the Grand Chancellor was voted by the Montasje to have special executive power, in collaboration with members of the Royal Family, as a regent until the boy felt he was ready to assume the throne.

Montasje

Besides the Grand Chancellor, there are also twelve other Chancellor’s who run various aspects of the government that are simply too numerous for the Grand Chancellor or the Righ-Këjsãre. These Chancellors make up the core of the Montasje, and are collectively known as the ‘hand of the Këjsãre’. Each of these chancellor’s d in charge of a special apparatus of the government (i.e. Transportation, Communications, Censor), and has distinct power over each Chancelleries running. All decisions must be announced to the Righ-Këjsãre, who will sign the bills or orders into effect, on some occasions when the Righ-Këjsãre does not agree with said bill/order, they will refuse to sign it, thus terminating the orders therein.

There are 14 Sub Chancellor's, simply called Chancellor's who run the major divisions of the Goverment , they are (in order of appointment):

Main Article: Politics of Arëdighùan

Since its independence from the Norric Empire, the Dominion was breifly established as a Republic for nearly 20 years. The Republic was toppeled by the Revolutionary leader Yrjänä.

After the Revolution, Yrjänä established a Monarchy, calling it the Dominion of Arëdighùan. The Dominion which exists largely the same to its original form, is an absolute monarchy, in which the people are ruled by various nobles who are apointed and dismissed by the Righ-Kesjare at his discretion.

The Nobles make up the Montasje, which is effectivly a parliment in which the issues of the time are brought up and adressed by the noble assigned to that particular area.

Administrative Divisions

Main Article: Administrative Divisions of Arëdighùan

Arëdighùan is divided into 57 administrative regions, called Kommer (singular Kommer), these are all ruled over by a Noble of varying title. Some of these Kommer are actual administartive regions of the former Norric Empire, others have since been rearranged by the Monarchist government.

Military

An Arëdighùani Ulv-1100

While Arëdighùan is a nation that seeks to maintain healthy, peaceful relations with everyone it possibly can, it still sees to it that it is capable of defending itself in the face of aggression from another nation. That is the charge of the Royal Forces of the Dominion .

The Royal Forces of the Dominion fall under the direct administration of the Monarchy, as per the dictates of the Constitution. Oversight is given by the Minister of Defense, who answers to the President.

There are three branches of the Royal Forces. They are the - Royal Air Force, Royal Army, and Royal Navy. Each one has its own Chancellory, overseen by its given Chancellor. Each service has a uniformed officer who is overall military operations commander for that service.

Foreign Relations

The Dominion of Arëdighùan maintains good relations with a large portion of nations throughout Eshraval, noteably its former Master Haarden, and its neighbor Hjemøen, Clairone in Southern Sapphillia as well as the Béqara, and Elimnu in Charia, as well as basically all of the Tarian and Naorian States, excepet Veanniagh and Duneghosta with many ill feelings still present after the Ardolean War and Deirytr War.

The Dominion feels, somewhat arogantly many people feel, that it is the natural gaurdian of the Taria and Naoria. And has taken great steps to ensuring its dominance in the area. This in no means that the Dominion has tried to opress the region, but simply believes that it is its responsibility, and acts accordingly. It has jokingly been nicknamed the wolf of the North, in that it is the dominate member of the pack of nations that make up Taria, this name has stuck and many Arëdighùani have embraced it.

Current Issues

Imigration

With Arëdighùan's large growth in the last 20 years, many of the poorer states of Taria have experienced a "brain drain" as skilled works try and flee the country to seek the high wages of Arëdighùan .

This has placed a great deal of strain on the government and the people of Arëdighùan, with so many people attempting to enter the country, imigration services have been overwhelmed. And as educated foreign workers pour into Arëdighùan, the jobs of the current citizens are threatened, and taken away.

There has been extremem controversy as to whether the attempting imigrants should be allowed in, or simply sent back. Duneghostan and Veanniaghi imigrnts and refugees face particular harships as they attempt to enter the nation, due to most Arëdighùani's distaste for their respective nations.

Growing Middle Class

As the economic growth in Arëdighùan surges forward, an middle class of Blue to White Collar workers has begun to emerge, forming the basis of the largest purchesing group in Arëdighùan.

Economy

The Economy of Arëdighùan is a robust mix of resource extraction, assembly line production, defence contracts, and tourism, and has only really begun to expand in the last 30 years.

Originally a state planned and dominated economy, sometimes in keeping with the Zang-Shi principles, but when the large oil and gas deposits were discovred in 1266, the Monarchy decieded that the Capitalist system's of Sapphillia and elsewhere, were better suited to the rapid expansion of the Arëdighùani economy.

Since 1287 the Per Capita Income has risn almost 21%, a stagering percentage in relation to the Sapphillian mainland, and comparable to that of the Oskan Confederation.

The Economy continues to grow at breakneck pace as the nations of Eshraval begin to exploit the Arëdighùani natural resource wealth in ernest.

Tourism

The Dominion of Arëdighùan is well known throughout Eshraval for its prominance, particularly amung the Norric Commonwealth nations, as a popular tourist destination. Its Golden Beaches, large mountain scapes, and diverse culture have attracted many to the Tarian nation. The Jërnvëggèr in, the Skjøt av Gùdene are a challenge to those who are rock climbing enthusiasts. Those who enjoy spending time in nature generally appreciate the pristine beauty of the forests which dust the feet of the Skjøt av Gùdene, this area is also known for its spectacular skiing.

Those who enjoy culture and history will be able to envelop themselves in the Old World architecture of the Dominions's oldest cities, such as FjellLandsby and Rølin. The Belesarious Museum in Yrjänägrød contains nearly seven hundred thousand displayed items from across Arëdighùan and Eshraval. Those with a love for boats and sailing can visit Håvn Seoirse and watch the countless ships coming and going from the premier port.

In 1303, Arëdighùan played host to the EshCup, further enhancing its reputation as a tourist destination.

All hospitals in the Dominion have been undergoing a facelift and modernization process, the one in Kesgangrod just having been finished.

The Dominion of Arëdighùan maintains a series of National Hospitals which are funded from the National budget. The healthcare is mediocre, but better than many other nations. Thanks to its sometimes Socialist way of thinking, Arëdighùan does have somewhat larger then normal social safety nets which are able to help people afford expensive medical procedures.

The Dominion maintains nearly one hundred full sized to Clinic sized Health-Care facilities through out the country, many of them built in the last 5 to 10 years, with the Governments infastructure spending inititives. The number of nurses and Doctors has continously been growing over the years, in average of 500 New Nurses, and 50 New Doctors a year. Numbers are expected to continue to rise as oil money floods government coffers.

Education

All Arëdighùani children are required to attend 14 grade levels of education, simply known as the First through Fourteenth Grade. School begins for children at the age of five, and continues until they are 19, at which time they complete the twelfth grade and graduate from what is known as general school.

Upon graduation from general school, young Arëdighùani can further their education by attending college. While advanced education is not paid for by the Government through taxpayer funds, the Department of Education, Ministry of Domestic Affairs has a program in place through which children can qualify for financial aid for their advanced education, from help with living fees, or paying for course materials.

Transportation

File:Mag-Lev Train.jpg
The nations first Mag-Lev train on its way to Fjellandsby., built by Claironese engineers as Arëdighùan experienced a influx of foriegn capital.

The Dominion of Arëdighùan maintains a large scale mass transportation system that is arguably one of the best in the world.

Because of many years of exclusion from Sapphillia after the Great War, combined with Haarden's near economic collapse, Arëdighùan found itself largely left to its own devices after the war.

This meant that many of the advanced technologies that it had relied on Haarden to gain access to, were now unavailable to it, most specifically cars and other devices of transporation. Without a steady acces to the trained industrial populations of Haarden, and Sapphillia, Arëdighùan was forced to depend on itself for its transportation.

Knowing that it could not yet duplicate the industrial juggernaught of the South, or the declining one of the North, Righ-Kesajre Niklas II decieded that the best option left to them would be to focus on a mass transportation system that could handle the already burgeoning population of Arëdighùan.

Under his direction, Arëdighùan's mass transporation would grow from nothing, to one of the largest in the world. Using engineer's educated in Sapphillia, he tasked them with creating a modern subway under the streets of the Yrjanagrod. Though plauged with difficulties and setbacks throughout the project (See; Yrjanagrod Subway Distaster of 1235), they were eventually successful in the summer of 1240.

This success, combined with a slow trickle of technology and trade from South Sapphillia, and a slowly recovering North Sapphillia, Arëdighùan secured more tecnologies that it would use to continously improve and expand its mass transportation system.

Currently, it is working at turning over its extensive fleet of diesel buses for a more ecologically and economically friednly bio-diesel model, and in collaboration with some Sapphillian corporate conglomerations (many of the from Clairone) working towards a larger Magnetic train network.

Communications

The Dominion has worked tirelessly for the past 20 years to create a fiberoptics system that conects all of the people of Arëdighùan, the network is nearing completion, and is currently maintained by the Department of Communication, Chancellory of Domestic Affairs. After the Networks completion, the Government has plans to allow Private firms, partial control of the system, easing the burden the network puts on tax papyers.

Cellular telephones have also become popular recently in Arëdighùan , with the private communications companies maintaining countless cellular service towers throughout the nation, a fiber-optics network is nearing completion that will alow virtually uninterupted communication ability throughout the Dominion.

Energy

Energy has never been a great worry of Arëdighùan, with its large oil and Natural Gas reserves. Recently the government has been trying to move away from Domestic Consumption of Fossil fuels, and focus on exporting them. Hydro, Solar, Tidal, and Wind power have employed as cheap and effective sources of power, without having to tap into Arëdighùan's valuable Carbonate Fuel supply.

Nuclear power is also seen as a rising start in the eyes of many as a source of cheap, clean and reliable energy withouth tapping into their natural reserve of fossil fuels.

For more information see: Power Sources in Arëdighùan, and Nuclear Power in Arëdighùan

Geography

Arëdighùan is built on the steps of the Skjøt av Gùdene, starting with the beaches of the coastal areas, and slowly working up the steppe's, into the Hinterland, and finally to the Skjøt av Gùdene's themselves.

Climate

Like its topography, the Arëdighùani climate is focused on the gradual step-ladder of differences that make up the nation. The beaches of the south are a warm tropical climate all year long, followed by the temperate forests in theSteppe's, and finishing with a cooler climate in the early reaches of the mountains. Entering the Skjøt av Gùdene in earnest, the climate drops to an Alpine level, this is where most of the nation's ski resorts are found. Boreal forests and larger animals are far more common in this region, and due to much of the areas remoteness, the forests here are relatively untouched, though oil production is starting to affect this. The final reaches of the mountains are barren, untouched by man and nature alike, populated with nothing more than snow-filled tundra in the shallow areas, and deep, strong ice-laden canyons and precipices in the steeper portions.

Cities and urban areas

Arëdighùan's largest urban areas are focused in the southern portion of the nation, where a slight majority of the population resides, with most of the extensive economic and infrastructural developement exists. The center of this developement is easily Håvn Seoirse, the nation's largest city. While Håvn Seoirse is the largest, it is closely followed by Yrjänägrød, the nations capital. Together these two form the 'sør strekke' or, 'southern stretch' as it has come to be known, a large urban conglomeration of dozens of municipalities, and the larger officies of the two true cities. This area is home to over 10 million people, and is the most densely populated region in the nation. When grouped as a single area, the sør strekke has the largest share of Arëdighùan's GDP (26%), and is the most economically prosperous region in the entire Calarian Ocean.

Following the sør strekke, FjellLandsby is the next largest urban area, with just over 2 million inhabitants. While FjellLandsby was once the heart of Arëdighùan in ancient times known then by its Shakrihl name XXXXX, it is now known as the cultural and spiritual center of the modern Arëdighùan. Its extensive central older district is home to some of the oldest buildings in Arëdighùan, some of them dating back farther than the discovery of the nation. While FjellLandsby is the major cultural hub, it does hold a great deal of economic value to, as much of the nation's oil wealth is centered near the city in the great mountains of the Skjøt av Gùdene.

Other larger urban regions exist, but these are largely overshadowed by the sheer size and economic power of these three, such areas include; Ny Viktoria, Kesgangrod, Natavakker, and Niccen.

Culture

See Also: Culture of Arëdighùan

Arëdighùan is often discribed as a nation of two peoples, the Haardic Settlers that came in the 10th Century, and the original Shakril people's of the area. Though the Haardic settlers were sometimes harsh with the natives, the two people have learned to live with eachother, and embrace statehood as a single nation.

Though the culture is largely dominated by the Apphillians and Shakril, The Massians and Chari exist as the two smaller minorities of the nation.

Jascora is the largest religious denomination in Arëdighùan, followed by Arie'Shoh, then Sascoll, and finally Prisim. There are other religous sects, but most are too small to be worth any note.

The Arëdighùani are somewhat arogant at times, in keeping with their Apphillian Herritage, they tend to view themselves as the rightful heir of the Norric Empire. Coming from the Haardic stock, they have been considered to have a strong warrier tradition, that has arguably been encouraged by the government.

Social enrichment in Arëdighùani society is gained through mutual freinds, this is largely considered to be a Shakirl trait that has since entered mainstream though in Arëdighùan, by obtaining enough mutual freinds, people hope to be accepted into larger and more influential social groups.

Arëdighùani Philosohpy is an interesting mix of Haardic and Shakril points of view, and methods of thinking. This combination has lead to many a philosophical revelation from an Arëdighùani thinker.

FjellLandsby is often considered the philisophical heart of Arëdighùan, with many of its great thinkers coming from the area. Also, some of the nations best universities are located here. Books such as Fáistine, Kjærligheten and Essays på Skjønnhet

Modern Philosophy has more recently been focused on various types of Goverments and the justifications for them. The Goverment has been at times accused of discouraging these lines of thoughts, but there has never been justifiable proof of this. Authorism, Monarchism, Democracy, Autonamism, Destinism, Zang-Shi, all are currently popular amung this generation of Philosophers.

Literature

Main Article: Arëdighùani Literature

Arëdighùani are world renowned for the literary thirst, books are a Arëdighùani fascination and addiction, the Dominion has one of the highest literacy rates in Eshraval, because it is such an extreme dishonor in Arëdighùani society to not be able to, that social interaction would be nearly impossible.

Cuisine

Main Article: Arëdighùani Cusine

Arëdighùani cusine, taking from its varrying geography, is distrincly found on a regional level. The Southern Coasts largely use small shell fish and tropical fruits and vegitables.

Because of the North and Central area's somewhat harsher climates, they rely much less on the somewhat tropical dishes of the south. Along the Northern Coast, fish are even more so a staple than the south, Herring, Cod, Salmon, are all major parts of any Arëdighùani's diet in the North.

Further inland, beging to climb the Skjøt av Gùdene, fish become less and less important, and cattle, pork and fowel become more central in the diet. Because of this regions cooler weather, the foods are usually much more spicey in flavor. Dishes such as Skïvad fïsk, or Hõadsïll which are considered delicacies in Arëdighùan, but are usually incredibly hot to outsiders of the area, who are not used to the areas climate.

Arëdighùan is also famous for its golf courses, of which there are over a thousand spread across the nation. Arëdighùani usually start golf at around age 9-10, and continue as long as they are able to play. It is gernally taken as a relaxing sport, though there are many tournaments for people with a more compentitive edge, Arëdighùani are usually found to be some of the best in the world when it comes to golfing. It is also the Dominions official Summer Sport.

Demographics

Ethnic Groups

The largest ethnic group in Arëdighùan are Aphillians (largely of Haardic stock, though there is a sizable Ilycian minority), followed by Shakrihl. The Shakrihl can be broken into many sub groups, the largest of them being, the Ísealbhordei.

After the Monarchist revolution, many of the great Apphillian and Shakrihl families have begun to inter-marry. And much of the predjudice against each race has begun to disapate. It is expected that by 1400 (possibly even 1350), Arëdighùan's Shakrihl and Apphillian populations will be for the most part, inter-mixed.

Religion

The largest religon in Arëdighùan is the Norric Concord division of Jascora of which 86% of the population subscribes to, followed by the Arie sect of He'Atruel. The Storre Lucht (Aphillian-Shakrihl Halfbreeds) follow a heretical and racially supremist convulsion of Jascora, and Sascoll, but are generally not regarded as a religion by the others.

Language

The official language of Arëdighùan is Dominion Norric, a dialect of Hårdanska. The language enjoys about 93% usage around the nation. The next largest spoken language is, Ísealbhordei, spoken by the many Shakrihl purists along the coasts, followed by Arvhil, and then by Aedhaelana.
