An Introductory Overview of Éran
I am known simply as Nameless. At the age of 21, I washed up on the shores of the Daurilon Freeholds with no recollection of my self, my origin, or even the world I live in. I have since then spent most of the past 30 years travelling all over Éran, not only to patch the black holes in my mind, but to understand a world that I do not recognize. Though I have no native home, I believe I have found a home on the road, an ancestry in the wanderers and discoverers that came before me, and a knowledge of the world around me afforded to but a select few in Éran. What follows is a record of my discoveries. --- Excerpted from the opening of "Recordings of a Wanderer" composed by Nameless circa 2497 AC.
Roughly speaking, Éran as we know can be divided into three regions. Western, north-eastern and south-eastern Éran.
The Underdark
Little known, home to many blackfolk who ocassionally move to the surface to raid and plunder.

Atlas of the West
Western Éran is the most civilised and densely populated part of Éran. The lands are dominated by humans with a few exceptions. Brennèl is the overshadowing figure of western Éran. It gave birth to civilisation in western Éran and remains the oldest and largest empire in the west. Though it is no longer the force it once were, it is still the keystone of western civilisation and the benchmark which all other civilisations measure themselves by.
Western Éran is traditionally divided into four regions, according to the old regional divisions of Brennèl when the Emperor's rule stretched across all of western Éran: Brennèl - the old empire, The New Kingdoms - mighty Errion and its rich neighbours, The Northern Frontier - still largely untamed Lands, The Steel Lands - plagued by perpetual warfare over its rich minerals, and The Calmír region - the border region where the wild east meets the civilized west.
Atlas of the North-East
North-Eastern Éran is a fierce land. The ancestral lands of the demi-humans, this is still the domain of their main strongholds in Éran, tugged in between the great wildernesses that keep civilization from truly taking foot here. The human lands in this region have had to adapt to living sparsely populated in a land of monsters and have set themselves up quite differently from the traditional civilizations in western Éran.
To the west is the Cloud Horns which separates western Éran from the east, home of the great Dwarven fortresses and halls hidden deep beneath the mountains. Southeast of these, lies the Great Swamp, forming an effective barrier from passage through the flatlands. Beyond this lies The Amrê, also called simply the Great Forest, owing to it being easily the largest piece of woodland in Éran. It is said a great elven kingdom lies hidden within its depths somewhere, but little is known of this largely unexplored territory. At the southern borders of the forest sit the Coast States, former colonies of Brennèl that have now established themselves as kingdoms in their own right in a land where humans are in a minority. To the north are the Cold Lands, possibly the most savage region in all of Éran, populated by primitive wolfmen, fearsome giants and monsters of all kinds.
Atlas of the South-East
The south may be more densely populated and civilized than the north of eastern Éran, but it is by no means a safer place. A land where humans are no stronger than the many humanoid races, the south east is a wild and diverse region.
To the north are the Old Realms, ancient kingdoms which have continued their way of life and culture unchanged for millennia under the protection of their mysterious but powerful rulers. South of these lies the ruined lands of the former Solman Empire - a land of independent (and often warring) city-states, orcs, humans and elves mingle freely here in this land where law and order have but a fleeting grasp. To the east stands the Allied States that survived the fall of the Solman, Sûlron, XXX and XXX (non-human nations). South of both regions begin the Endless Wastes with the Great Plains which eventually lead into the desert where the ruined fragments of the old Serpent empire still lives on and form an even greater barrier to the southern lands beyond Éran than the desert itself.
