Appearance

  • Height: 5' 11"
  • Weight: Unknown
  • Age: Unknown
    • Apparent: Late 30's/early 40's (except his hair)

Kochi wears the standard Captain's outfit, with the addition of a large royal-blue sash that crosses over his right shoulder and ties off in a large knot to his scabbard at his left hip. He also wears a mush smaller sash around his head, functioning as an eye patch for his blind right eye. A patch on the part of the sash that covers the eye bears a stylized crane. The only noticeable trait that shows his age is his hair, which looks far older than he appears to be. His hair is short and black, but the majority of it is streaked with the grey of age. He also has a very neat moustache and short beard, in the style of some feudal Japanese nobles.

Background

Considered by many to be a wizened veteran, he once lost his right eye in a battle with a Hollow in his early days as a Shinigami. He used to serve under Genryuusai as a master tactician. He currently prefers to avoid combat if possible, and often claims he's "too old to be playing with swords". That doesn't mean he's lost any of his skill, however.

Synopsis

Shinigami Academy Arc

At the begining of this Arc, Kochi had little importance. The only member of the graduating shinigami class that entered his division was Genkou Kanrara, whom he brought in to fill the Vice Capitan position. Genkou was later thrown out of the division for incompetence.

During Shidan's betrayal, Kochi faced down his former student and dueled with him for quite some time. He was defeated despite using his Bankai.

Mortal Happenings and Soul Beginnings

After Shidan's betrayal, Kochi was forced by General Yamamoto to choose a new Vice Capitan. For unknown reasons, he chose Vaghn Ryota, at the time 9th division's 3rd seat. Using his hollow-seeing eye he was able to detect the small fragment of Hollow energy in Vaghn's soul after his fight with Capitan Kenpachi. He used this as blackmail to force Vaghn to accept the position of Vice-Capitan, threatening to send him to 12th division to be experimented on.

Since Vaghn has entered service as Kochi's Vice Capitan, the Capitan has spent significant amounts of time observing Vaghn and preforming sealing arts on his soul. The most drastic seal he preformed was a massive hollow-binding seal that formed around a 'Chain of Fate' that had begun to grow in Vaghn's inner world. Vaghn was oblivious to this meddling, though he has since discovered the seal.

It has been revealed that the reason 3rd division has only two other Shinigami besides Kochi and Vaghn (Senjin and Tetsu) is because after taking control of the division, the rate at which his subordinates died rose to absurdly high levels, and the rate of Shinigami transferring to other divisions skyrocketed as well. This is a direct result of Kochi's ruthless personality and tactics.

Kochi has developed as a very serious, no-nonsense character, with unknown motives and no reservations when it comes to manipulating others for his goals. The well-being of others is obviously not in his objectives.

Zanpakutō

Kochi's Zanpakutō, Biri Bifuu Fuyuba (Last Breath of Winter) is one of the most well-known among Soul Society, as well as being the most powerful Water-elemental Zanpakutō. In it's sealed form, it resembles a normal katana with a hilt shaped like an hourglass. It's avatar form is a crane, which is why he has the image of one on his eye patch.

Shikai

Upon calling out the command, "Akehirogeru, Biri Bifuu Fuyuba" (Reveal yourself [lit. Open yourself], Biri Bifuu Fuyuba), he holds the sword with both hands and spins it once clockwise in front of him. During the spin, the blade seems to blur. At the end of the motion, the sword will have turned into a pair of bladed fans, each one with a small sword on either side. Despite its name involving winter, Biri Bifuu Fuyuba doesn't involve ice. It's powers seem to be centered around rain and the water vapor in the air. Among other things, Kochi can move by "skating" on small pockets of water vapor (he can skate nearly any direction except straight upwards), and creating duplicates of himself out of water, which can do the same physical attacks as he can, as well as take hits for him.

Bankai

Kochi's Bankai, Kaiu Gufuu Biri Bifuu Fuyuba (Dark Rainfall Hurricane in the Last Breath of Winter), is a fearsome sight. As he says the command, a fierce rainstorm (think monsoon) brews in the sky above (not as high as the actual sky, though, if you look closely). He spreads his fans in front of him, making the same spiral motion as for his Shikai, then disappears. At this point, he can attack with his fans through the rain itself, allowing him to attack without putting himself in direct danger. During this time, he is actually within the clouds above, and if the opponent actually has a means of getting above the clouds, he is vulnerable because he can't use his fans (though he can still use Shunpo and Kidou, both of which he is also proficient with).

Notes

  • The GM for the Bleach RP, Drayco, has repeatedly referred to Kochi as 'An Asshole'. Weather this is in jest or an accurate description of his personality has never been clarified.
  • Kochi does not need to sleep, and he never does.
