As a child, Ryan grew up in Los Angeles, California. His father (James Black) died when Ryan was 14, and from then on, Ryan went down a bad road. At the age of 16, upon receiving his driver's license, Ryan ran away from home (where he lived with his mother, Anna Black-Quinn), quit school , and illegally started to street race. Over time, Ryan created his own 'crew' and earned the respect of almost everybody on the street racing scene. He was undefeated in the street racing scene, but an unfortunate accident when he was 18 made him notice the dangers of street racing. He 'retired' from street racing, with a few hundred thousand dollars in cash, countless cars, trucks/suv's, and motorcycles. Black then took up wrestling, and focused his whole attention on that. Apart from being an accomplished in-ring competitor and street racer, Ryan is also know for his mic skills. He currently is single, and when not on the road, lives in a quiet suburban home in Bloomington, California.

Taking Up Wrestling

Growing up, Ryan was never really interested in getting into wrestling, unless you count the street fights he got into. While visiting old friends in Detroit, Michigan, Ryan decided to go to Wrestlemania 23 with a few of them. After seeing Jeff Hardy jump off a ladder, and Shawn Michaels and John Cena's fight for the WWE Championship, Black was given an adrenaline rush and fell in love with it all. He then started to train in local gyms around Los Angeles, Detroit, Atlanta, and New York. Ryan never had a true trainer or any wrestling experience prior to DXX.

DXX Rated

Ryan Black was signed to DXX's developmental brand, Rated, on October 4, 2008. He officially made his in ring debut on the October 15th Rated show as a face, randomly being entered into a tag team title tournament. His partner had been Trixx, both superstars did not hit it off at the moment they saw eachother. They would face off against the Jones Twins, but Black had been hit out of the apron, Trixx double teamed, and the match had gone to the Jones Twins. Ryan and Trixx, later on in the night were able to win a battle royal to still advance to the Finals of the Tournament because no one else had showed up. After starting 0-1 in his career, and angry and his partner for costing them the match, Ryan next went on to take his anger out on Moby Jones, of the Jones Twins. In his second match on Rated, Ryan was able to pull out the win. Next, though, came the pay-per-view Genocide. Ryan, Trixx, and the Jones Twins would not be so lucky, as the other two finalists The Evolutionary Revivalists, Randy Spade and Ryan Campbell, pulled out the win. In the next week, Ryan would beat Shannon Moore on Rated, and after being invited, Pete and Johnny Storm in a Triple Threat Match on Friday Night Mayhem. That Wednesday Night, Ryan Black and Montel Porter would unveil the Black & Porter Rebellion by helping Montel beat then DXX Rated Champion, Johnny Relentless for the title, and injuring Relentless in the process, and turning Ryan Black heel. In two weeks, Ryan's opponent was picked by Relentless, and it turned out to be none other than Tristagi. Black came out with the win with some help from Porter.

The next week Ryan was put into two matches with Pete, the DXX Rated Platinum Champion. He beat him both times, one time on Rated, and another on Friday Night Mayhem, in a Detroit v. Los Angeles Street Fight (which saw Black go through 8 tables), using both superstars' hometowns as the name for the match. That same night on Mayhem, the Black and Porter Rebellion would then welcome Frolock into the mix during Porter's match v. Ville Valo, but later on Frolock would be fired from DXX and replaced with Evan Bourne on the team. Black was then inserted into a Triple Threat Match, with Pete and Christian Cage for the DXX Platinum Championship at the pay-per-view Facing Extinction. The week before the PPV, Ryan was scheduled to take on Violent Sid on Rated, and won. Then at Facing Extinction, during his match, Ryan was accidentley tripped by Pete and knocked out. Pete then pinned him to retain the title. On the 12/10/08 Rated show, Ryan had a Facing Extinction rematch against Pete for the title, and won after performing a small package on Pete, giving him his first title ever! Ryan was then asked to team up with Chris O'Leary on Massacre to face Matt Hardy and Tristagi. Ryan was able to help O'Leary win his final match in DXX, Chris having joined the U.S. Army a day later. On Rated of that week, Ryan was forced to compete against his partner, Montel Porter. Ryan was able to pick up the win, gaining a little momentum, heading into Crucifixion. Ryan went on to have a short feud with Nero Jones, the DXX Rated World Champion at the time. They had a chmapion vs. champion fight, which Jones won.

From there, Dexter Hardy, DXX Rated General Manager, put an offer on the table to Black. He could give up his Platinum title and get a shot at the World title, that Nero held. They faced off at DXX's The Last Stand, and Ryan pulled off the win, becoming the only superstar to ever hold the DXX Platinum Championship and the DXX Rated World Championship. Ryan was schedule to face Tony Vincent, the number one contender, on the next Rated to defend the championship, but Black had a run in with the law a couple of nigthts prior. He had been involved in a street brawl, illegal street racing, and had been shot in the leg. Black was later released from DXX, vacated the title, and was sentenced to jail time as soon as he recovered from the wound. He was later let off on bail and some other things, and was resigned to DXX's Mayhem Brand.

Mayhem

When he was resigned after his legal troubles, Ryan was placed on the Mayhem Roster, and beat Crisis at a live house show. He is now scheduled to take on the debuting Raven, in another untelevised Mayhem event. Ryan was able to beat him, but after the match, Black was beat down by Mike Vengeance being accompanied by Jimmy James, who announced Ryan would face Mike in the coming week. Ryan easily took out Mike, but then Jimmy James announced that Ryan would be taking on him in the next week. Ryan would lose, but thanks to a clause in James' contract, Black was set to face Johnny Relentless in a Money In the Bank Qualifier to head to WrestleMania III. Ryan would lose that match due to being slammed off the ladder by Ted DiBiase Jr.. Later in the night though, Ryan would come out of the back, saving Cody Lawrence from being destroyed by The Hood Tribe. Black would then get himself beaten down, until he and Lawrence were saved by supposedly dead superstar, John Cena. The two, and Lawrence, would then form the BC Alliance, and will compete against The Hood Tribe, DiBiase Jr. and Money in the Bank winner Kenny Wallace for the DXX Universe Tag Team Championships.
