Early Life

Kotone "Rodiana" Nakamura was in Hsinchu City, Taiwan, China on August 16, 1996. Her father, Haruki "Pierre" Nakamura, is a first generation French-Japanese (with roots in Beaucaire, Gard, France) while her monther, Mable "Han Yin" Ann (née Dawson), is a second-generation Chinese-Canadian.

When Nakamura reached seven years of age the family relocated to View Royal, a town in Greater Victoria and a member municipality of the Capital Regional District of British Columbia, Canada. She was home schooled until the age of eleven when the family moved back to Japan and settled in Okutama, a town in Nishitama District, Tokyo.

In an interview with Elle Japan Nakamura commented on the constant relocations, "It made me turn to music for consultaions of the emotions I was feeling and in a way can be explained as to why I feel so strongly for it" and described herself as "a girl who was contempt with the setting but hoped for lasting friendships and a comfortable home." She attended the Kori Elementary School and later the Kori Intermediate School where she became a straight-A student and a member of the dance team. She was eventually persuaded by her teacher to pursue a career in dance.

Nakamura is fluent in Mandarin, English and Japanese.

Career

2007-2012: Competition scouted and training process

Through various opportunities she was able to make a name for herself locally and won several under sixteen dance competitions. In one particular event she represented her school at the Nishitama Annual Youth Talent Competition in 2007 where she received first place in the dance catergory and finished third overall. Through this she was able to capture the attention entertainment agency Clumsy Media where she was offered to be a trainee. Nakamura's parents initially refused.

TwoNakamura's passion for music and dance grew throughout the next two years and naturally she looked up the agency's contact number herself and asked for a way to be offered a chance of becoming trainee again. Upon identifying herself as someone who was given such a chance two years ago after winning a local competition the company immediately agreed upon a private audition process. She was ultimately accepted and along with the family under the financial guidance of the label, all moved to Tokyo where the headquarters located so she could begin official training.

Nakamura was enlisted training in singing, dancing and acting. She was since the beginning dubbed as 'Solo Project K' and was planned to debut as a solo artist. However in 2011 she began training together along with fellow label-mate singer, songwriter, musician and multi-instrumentalist Kita Hari after she joined the company that same year. Soon the company planned to debut the two together as a duo. The plan was eventually dismissed after several months after officials discovered they both had vastly different musical styles and confirmed that they will each debut as a solo artist instead. Despite this both Hari and Nakamura started sharing a close friendship since their first meetings and decided that after their solo debut they would form a project group together.
