283 AL The Sack of King's Landing by Tywin Lannister, Lord of Casterly Rock and Eddard Stark, Lord of Winterfell. Rhaegar's son Prince Aegon Targaryen was ripped from the breats of his mother Princess Elia and killed before her eyes. Elia and her daughter Princess Rhaenys were also killed. Ser Jaime Lannister killed Aerys II Targaryen, King of the Seven Kingdoms in the throne room. Aerys' pregnant queen Rhaella and their son Viserys III Targaryen fled to Dragonstone.

290 AL Prince Tommen Baratheon, second son of Robert Baratheon, King of the Seven Kingdoms and Queen Cersei, was born.

Jon Arryn, Lord of the Eyrie and Hand of the King fell ill and died after a short while. Unable to save him, Grand Maester Pycelle gave Jon milk of the poppy to ease the pain. His wife Lysa and son Robert travelled back to the Eyrie.

King Robert decided to travel north with the royal family to see Eddard Stark, Lord of Winterfell. Ser Jaime Lannister and Tyrion Lannister were among those following the king.
